I installed FF 10 on my WinXP-Pro machine, and now it reverts back to FF 8.01 forcing a reinstall of updates; how do I stop this behavior?

I have uninstalled FF as completely as can be done with "Add/Remove programs", installed FF 10 as a new install. The next day FF reverts back to FF 8.01 and updates have to be installed to bring it current. This problem has been going on for some time. I have FF installed on many other computers running WinXP-Pro and do not see this issue. Please advise.
