I'm using Firefox 145.0.2. Every time I try to get directions from google maps, it asks me if I want to open it in the app. When I say no, it tries anyway and fails.

I don't have the maps app installed. I've set Firefox as my default browser, set open links in apps to never, and cleared the default behavior for the Google maps app. (I don't know why an app I don't have has a default behavior.)

Is there anything else I should try?

The solution, for anyone else having this problem, is to say yes, open it in the app. Weirdly, that makes it show directions in Firefox.

I just double checked. Apparently I do have it installed, but it's disabled.
