This is possible in Safari and is literally the only reason I am sticking with that browser. It's imperative for me to be able to close tabs on my desktop from mobile and vice versa.

No, I don't think this is possible in Firefox. Note the Synced tabs expire in about a week, so tabs that show on another device will likely continue showing.
