Thunderbird 115.0 on Linux/Debian is unable to verify and install addons from website. It just freezes when I try - and cannot even manually install addons that I download using Chrome. I even totally deleted all files and folders and reinstalled Thunderbird 115.0 from stratch... what happened?!

I found that after total removal - if I install a earlier version... that I can verify and install addons, but not with version 115.

I also found that I cannot import profiles from zip or even uncompressed folder. I confirmed the profile is less that 2 gig (1.2 gig) - so size of the profile should not be a problem.

I had an issue with one of my domain emails hosted at ionos so I removed one of my domain accounts and reinstalled it I let is set up with default storage diorectory user/appdata and so on then went to sever settings and changed the local directory to the hard drive my other emails are stored on the only thing is I'm missing all the folders in the directory but my emails are still working. does any one know how I can fix this as I said I have already tried to remove the account and reinstall it and it still come up the same i have included an image of both accounts hosted at ionos not that that should make a differance where its hosted just that they should look the same in the directory!. thanks to any one who could shed some light on this. as you can see there are folders in one but theri missing the ones on the right. shame there is no little app from mozilla that can fix issues like this in thunderbird it would solve so many little issues that seem to pop up now and again.

I manage IT for a small org (10 users) where we currently use thunderbird with email services provided by a website hosting company. We'd like to move to either Google Workspace or Office 365 for email.

Considerations

[1] Our needs are simple, email and contacts. One user uses folders extensively. [2] I have some exposure to using google workspace with thunderbird, and I'd say that's pretty smooth. [3] I have no experience with Office 365. [4] No one wants to move to Outlook from Thunderbird [5] We subscribe to Office 365, so google workspace would be a new cost

In researching how o365 works with Thunderbird, my conclusion is that Microsoft is still quite capable of making it less than smooth. I'd very much appreciate input from those with exposure to o365, and even more anyone that can compare the two services from the Thunderbird perspective.

I tried to access a shared Gmail account via Thunderbird, let's say shared@gmail.com. I don't have a password for this account, but when I log in in the browser, Gmail knows it is a shared account and says "log in using another account" and then I can use personalmail@gmail.com to log in.

I tried this in Thunderbird by adding shared@gmail.com and then using personalmail@gmail.com as the OAuth2 option. I found some tutorials at university websites that use this, but all with Exchange and not Gmail. At first this didn't work; I got an "incoming server already exists" error. By using imap.googlemail.com I circumvented that and the account was added, but it showed the personalmail@gmail.com inbox, not the shared@gmail.com one.

Is there a way to make this work or is it simply not possible?

Recently updated to Thunderbird 115.5.1. Everything appears fine except my Local Folders do not appear anymore. The TB menu bar shows only "Local Folders", plus 3 default options of Archives, Trash & Outbox, all empty. My TB Profile folder still shows subfolders: E:\Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\z5qq0yvq.default\Mail\Local Folders E:\Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\z5qq0yvq.default\Mail\Local Folders.sbd E:\Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\z5qq0yvq.default\Mail.sbd\Local Folders E:\Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\z5qq0yvq.default\Mail.sbd\Local Folders.msf and it looks like all my data is there, but nothing shows up in the TB window.

Problem: Thunderbird hangs up on Macbook and iMac. It opens to the normal view, but if I try to do anything, I get the beachball of death. I used Mac migration assistant to install from Macbook to iMac. Before the installation, the Macbook Thunderbird worked fine, but after the installation, neither worked. My PC installation works fine, as does Apple Mail on my iOS devices, so it is not a provider problem.

Solutions tried: restarting in troubleshoot mode, restarting iMac, turning off access to Apple Contacts, turning off antivirus (Norton), creating new profile and copying existing mail data into the profile folder, and renaming various files in the profile folder.

Results: None of the solutions I tried provided access to my email. I can open the new profile, but that requires that I reenter all my email account information and copy the emails for each account into the new profile (I use POP). The problem may be with the prefs.js file, since if I rename it, Thunderbird doesn't hang, but would require me to reenter all my account info as if it were a new profile, and all preferences would be lost.

Question: What is the best solution for this problem? Is there anything that would work better than reentering the account info -- e.g., can I make any changes to prefs.js using a text editor or some other utility?

I've delayed upgrading from Catalina to Sonoma just in case I lose over 10 years and 1000's of TB mails in nearly a hundred folders - vital to my work.

However, I can no longer upgrade my Photoshop and Lightroom. Dare I bite the bullet or will it just screw me up and lose my mails?

I'm not comfortable going "under the hood" into the directory etc. so dread the replies I might get. So please keep it simple. Or should I just take it in to my local (independent) Apple geek?

My in box will only download multiple copies of about 5 different emails from October 26 2023. These messages have been deleted lots of times but the inbox will repeatedly repost them as new and not download any new email later than October 26. It is like the movie groundhog day.It reluctantly downloads new email and the gives me up to 20 copies of the same 5 emails, never anything new. Any ideas? I can send emails.Trying the get messages button gives me the wait icon it is processing the new messages. Hours later it is Ground hog day again.The trash has been emptied on each try. I have been able to download new messages with out problems using the Shaw website. I hop this helps, any ideas? Andy

I looked at the support guide and can find the files on my new hard drive using the Profile folder in the troubleshooting information but I don't know how to get Thunderbird to use them.
