Very Slow Performance

I am using Ubuntu 18.04.2 64bit Linux. Thunderbird 60.8.0 64bit. I am using 5 mailboxes with a total of 20.000 emails and an archive with 30.000 emails. Even if I start Thunderbird he is synching my Email accounts(can see that Thunderbird only using 1 CPU - single threading - only 1 cpu of 8 is busy with a total of 100%). During synching with Email Accounts I can not use Thunderbird to read Emails or something else. He is not responding during this time. After Vacation it tooks 10-30 minutes before I can use Thunderbird - after he has synched the email accounts. This needs to be improved. Please help. The same issue with the Window Version of 64bit Thunderbird.
