Full message is:

Could not initialize the application's security component. The most likely cause is problems with files in your application's profile directory. Please check that this directory has no read/write restrictions and your hard disk is not full or close to full. It is recommended that you exit the application and fix the problem. If you continue to use this session, you might see incorrect application behaviour when accessing security features.

Do you have any suggestions on how to resolve this?

Delete the cert8.db file in the Thunderbird profile folder. This will remove all intermediate certificates that Thunderbird has stored.

To locate your profile folder: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/profiles-where-thunderbird-stores-user-data#w_how-to-find-your-profile

Delete the cert8.db file: Make sure Thunderbird is closed before deleting the file. https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/couldnt-initialize-applications-security-component
