I installed Firefox on a new device and initiated a sync for multi-account containers - it promptly synced in the wrong direction. It eliminated all customization from what should have been the source (the existing device), overwriting it with the default settings of a first-time installation. I was quite surprised.

This leads me to a couple of questions.

1. Is there a sync version history or any way of rolling back a sync? 2. Is there a way to explicitly choose the sync direction?

Quite honestly it is very confusing that there is no reference whatsoever to which way an initial sync will go. I was hesitant to risk this, decided to trust it knew what to do (even though it didn't give me any indication that it did) and lost my gamble.

Firefox knows the device names, so can I suggest some basic reassuring UX be inserted into this process with something like "Initiate sync from X-DEVICE-FIREFOX to Y-DEVICE-FIREFOX?". A bit of clarity would be helpful here, as well as a way to roll back a syncing mistake instead of just having to gamble possibly losing hard-won customization with no going back.

Or have I completely stumbled past some obvious place where everything I'm requesting exists and is accessible already?

Thanks for any help anyone can provide.

Recently the majority of content types have disappeared from the Applications section in the Settings. (See the attached screenshot) Even Word and other MS Office files are not on the list any more. Consequently, when I open a Word file, Firefox asks me where to save it and does not offer to either save it or open it.

I tried editing handlers.json file and added an entry for PDF files. Now upon clicking on a link that leads to a PDF file, Firefox prompts me to open it or save it. However, if I choose to open it, the file gets saved in the Downloads folder, rather than Temp folder like previously. The result is that the Downloads folder gets filled with files that I have opened but did not want to save and keep.

I created a new Firefox profile to see whether the previous list of content types would return. This did not work, and the new profile, too, shows only a few content types.

What could be the problem? Thanks.

Okay, hi- first time here. I have, as far as I know, all my preferences set correctly- clear history and cookies upon shutdown, etc yet EVERY time I reopen Firefox it's attempting to resume my last session which seems to me to be the opposite of how I have it configured so I was wondering what I also need to do to eliminate this privacy concern. Thanks in advance~

I am having a bit of a weird issue regarding Firefox 91.7.0 ESR on Raspberry Pi. Specifically on Twister OS.

The browser seems to work perfectly fine as long as I am not logged in to my account. However, once I click to log in and type my password the browser crashes and continues to do so after each attempt to restart it.

Curious as to why I have been launching the browser from the terminal and each time I see the same error messages when the browser crashes.

"Exiting due to channel error."

Typically there are also GenerateDump messages as well.

The odd thing is I tried Firefox ESR (I believe the same version though I will double check that) on the normal Raspberry Pi OS and am not having the issue. It did crash 1-2 times when I first tried to sync but since then it has run and synced with absolutely no issues.

I have noticed that sometimes the firefox browser crashes when a video is playing. This has happened multiple times now. To debug the issue, this time i started the browser using terminal so that when the browser crash i will see the message on the terminal. This time i was watching a youtube video. And while the video was playing the browser first hangs(meaning the screen/video freezes and browser doesn't respond to any clicks or anything) for first 2-3 minutes and then it crashes. This time since i had started the firefox from terminal, after the crash i got the following printed out on the terminal: ``` user@user-Inspiron-xxxx:~$ /usr/lib/firefox/./firefox Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. Exiting due to channel error. CPU time limit exceeded (core dumped) ``` I am using Ubuntu 18.04 and Firefox version 98.0(64 bit). I have downloaded the tar file of this version from Mozilla's official site and then installed it manually on my machine. Can someone help me solve the issue and also tell me the reason for this crash.

A while ago some people here helped me get my "custom config" fore firefox running. On windows verything is working fine now, however as im getting into linux now, i want to customize Firefox there.

On windows basically what i had to do was searching for firefox.exe in the explorer then drag and drop my own custom firefox.cfg into that directory. Next step was to drag and drop the autoconfig.js into the prefs directory.

autoconfig.js C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\defaults\pref firefox.cfg C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox

After that i could simply start firefox with my own custom settings.

Now on Linux i am really struggling finding out what exactly i must do in order to use my own firefox cfg. To be honest, i was trying to find out what the equivalent to an exe from windows is in linux so that i could then navigate to the main firefox directory where the "exe" is located and do same as on windows, drag and drop my custom cfg there.

Im using a debian distribution of Linux (Kali) guessing firefox is installed here? /usr/lib/firefox-esr/firefox-esr

Anyways im lost, any help is welcome.

What directory or say what filetype instead of exe am i looking for? Do i drag and drop the firefox.cfg next to the main executable same as on windows or are the steps different from windows? And what about the autoconfig.js, where does it go? does it go anywhere?

Hi, so my problem was exist for several times both on my PC and laptop and can't figure it out keyword to fix my issue and tbh i don't know what trigger this behavior. When browsing sometimes came situation can't type anything using my keyboard, even when outside firefox.

my current workaround to encounter this, i just need open any web with place I can type like search bar or text box and type there then back to normal (so I guessing it's maybe related to when I open web with this kind search box then move to other tab it's stuck on that box? but i can't make sure, it just happen randomly but often). and I don't know if this issues related to windows or just firefox because I didn't know the trigger so i can't recreate this on other browser.

If anyone know how to fix this, please help me.

thanks in advance

So I've been doing a lot of distro-hopping over the last couple of years and every install has an instance of firefox + assorted info in the "Connected Services" list. I can log out of them individually, but this is going to take a daft amount of time. I really do mean "a lot of distrohopping". There must be at least 300 entries, probably more. Can I 'log out of all devices' and then back in to clear the list? The alternative would seem to be to export everything, then make a new account and import it back.

As an aside, in the course of chasing this feature down I discovered that it's no longer possible to remove old devices from your Google account.

Thanks I've been a firefox user since the first Beta of the then named Mozilla Sunbird. Always loved it. Always recommended it to anyone who would stand still long enough to listen, as the saying goes.

Hello,

I recently switched from Firefox ESR 78.15.0 to Firefox ESR 91.6.0 on a PC with Win7 and now when I go here https://www.skype.com/go/getskype-full I don't get to save to disk the exe file while I instead get an error window from Firefox which says: Unable to connect Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at get.skype.com. The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments. If you are unable to lad any pages, check your computer's network connection. If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the web. Try again

Firefox ESR 91.6.0 is working OK in all the other situations in which I have used it so far and Firefox ESR 78.15.0 never had this issue.

The more: on the same Win7 PC, but from a virtual machine with WinXP with Firefox ESR 52.9.0, when I follow the same above Skype link I get to save the exe file as usual.

Are there any suggestions on how I could try to fix this in Firefox ESR 91.6.0?

Thank you

Completely random and without any sign of slowing down the OS - the OS freezes - nothing works at all and I have to restart it using the power button. On Linux if I start Firefox when there is no network connection, it is then unable to connect to the internet when it later becomes available (ethernet or wifi). The only solution is to close it and restart when the connection is available. If the connection was available when Firefox started, losing it and restoring it does not cause a problem. Thunderbird has the same problem, but no other program on they system does.

network.dns.disablePrefetch does not help.

This has applied to FIrefox for many years, including the current version 97.0

Firefox is telling the world that it is version 91: confirmed by websites are telling me that my 91 installation is out of date, further confirmed from this page below showing

   Firefox version (optional):
   91.0

Under Settings/Firefox Updates I see "Version 97.0.1 Firefox is up to date."

Anyone know what's going on?

I have done my best to suppress browser and OS fingerprinting. Is that the cause? I also note that under 'Troubleshooting information" below the page shows "We can't automatically get your browser's troubleshooting data"

I lost all the bookmarks suddenly where i was using this browser for office work, there was no action taken from my end like deletion or any upgrade, however suddenly when i start machine today, i found all bookmarks lost. To restore backup I entered to Profile --> bookmark backup this file is extension JSONLZ4 which is not visible during restore bookmark.

This is quite important to recover these suddenly lost all bookmarks, so is there any way or support available?

Unfortunately this is first time i am facing such kind of issue, So kindly also let me know if we should trust mozilla firefox as default browser and to save bookmarks?

Thanks & Regards
