I loathe the current version of Firefox, and was much happier with the previous version. I'm afraid I don't know what the current version number is, and don't know what the previous version number was, but so far as I know it was the latest before this new version.
How do I revert to the earlier version, while keeping all my addons and bookmarks? If I can get the previous version I will certainly store it on my computer so I don't have to ask this question again.

Adobe Flash plug-in keeps crashing, and neither refreshing it or Firefox fixes the problem.

Recently Firefox is crashing *a lot* on exit. I sometimes quickly exit Firefox when I am switching to another application, and then a few seconds after exit, the crash reporter appears.
I have read elsewhere that this might be caused by the Norton Toolbar. I have the latest version of Firefox 38.0.5, and the Norton Toolbar 2014.7.12.14, and I would think they are compatible, but I guess not.
In addition, I am getting integrity violations on my Windows 8.1 PC. SFC is showing corrupted files. I have been able to fix these, only to have them come back the next day. I understand it that a program abruptly ending can cause such corruptions, so I am wondering if Firefox is causing this?
In a perfect world Mozilla and Norton would work out their differences. For now I have disabled the Norton tool bar, which isn't a fix as I need it to stay safe as I browse. I prefer not to switch to IE or Chrome either. That isn't a fix.
Is anyone else experiencing this problem? Does anyone have a solution for my particular instance of Firefox crashing on exit?

since Firefox Version 38.0 (ESR) it is not possible to download Firefox Add-ons manually ( ...from the site addons.mozilla.org (!) ) with 'Save Link as...' (...from the Right-Click Context-Menu).
All of the Add-Ons for Firefox (signed or un-signed) have a size of '0 kb' after trying to 'Save Link as...' to a local directory. If I'm choosing there (...in the 'Mozilla Add-On Store') a Thunderbird Add-On everything works fine with the 'Save as...'-alternative.
I have tested this with all of the ESR versions 38.0 to 38.6.1 and also with the new 'public' version 44.0.2 (= no ESR), ...also with new and clean Profiles. Everywhere the same effect. 31.8 ESR is the last one where I can download and save Add-Ons with 'Save Link as...' to a local directory.
(I know that it is possible to choose the Button '+Add to Firefox' with Left-Click. In this case the Add-On Download starts without any problems promptly ...and the installation process starts directly.)
Is there a Pref available which I can set in the about:config page or another option to download Add-On files manually?

I am running the newest update for firefox (Version 38.0.1) on Mac OS Version 10.6.8. When I open a new window in firefox, the close, maximize, and minimize buttons are located in the top left corner, as usual. However, if I enter fullscreen mode on a video, and then exit, the buttons are not there. They are not simply invisible - clicking in their usual location has no effect.

I use some programmes like Auslogics Boost Speed and Advanced System Care(I disable everything that has to do about history and all these when I scan)and Malware Bytes Antimalware. Please help me. One installation of Firefox 38.0.5 on windows 8.1 does not display spinner box controls (see attached image). They are there but with 1 or 2 pix height as clicking the grey bar sometimes increases and sometimes decreases the numeric value.
Tried creating a new profile with no addons. Same problem. Haven't tried reinstalling Firefox yet.
This is not a problem with the website as this occurs on all sites with this type of form element.
It is also probably not a Firefox bug as I have Firefox 38.0.5 on Windows 7 at work that displays these form elements correctly.
Zoom (Ctrl +/-) does not change the erroneous appearance of the controls.
Any idea how to fix this?

I've checked Firewall if FF was loaded with permissions and it wasn't... but that didn't help. The bogey is "server not found". What the heck is the cause of it ?

before the latest and greatest firefox update i was able to manually activate flash (to prevent pages from automatically loading them and bogging down memory) by having the shockwave flash addon option as 'ask to activate'.
no longer is that the case. my firefox updated automatically and load flash automatically. no matter if i have 'ask to activate' or even disable the shockwave flash addon or anything else.
i tried using flashblock but it makes loading flash unusable, when i click the button to view it, the swf plays audio of the video but does not show the video/picture. scrolling the video freezes it or makes it buggy and reloading the swf does not work.
long story short, how to make it like before where i click to manually activate the plugin per swf without the use of flashblock because it is useless/worthless.

With so many people asking how it works or how to change it back to the old design, wouldn't it be best to compile all the negative feedback and confusion over this new format, and reverse it back to the old design? As the saying goes..."IF IT AIN'T BROKE...DONT FIX IT." I won't even use the NEW TAB page now as I don't have any desire to figure out or read how to get my links to be remembered and stored there again. Many of my links aren't there anymore, and even visiting the sites, is not putting those page links back onto the NEW TAB page for selection. Honestly this thing just junk. You guys need to quit changing things that work. Sometimes when something is created.....you got it right the first time. Sorry but starting to miss Internet Explorer. They didn't change much, but.. when they did...it was only the things that needed updating or a fix.

I have tried the "This Connection is Untrusted" error message appears - What to do" article for the 'issuer certificate is unknown' error which is 'The file cert8.db in your profile folder may have become corrupted. Delete this file while Firefox is closed. ' Unfortunately this did not solve my issue. So I use the Add Exception button in an attempt to have FF store a permanent exception for 'https://my.Earthlink.net'. Problem is in using the Get Certificate button does not work. FF attempts to retrieve the EL certificate but is not successful. Hence the option to Permanently Store the certificate is not available and I have to do is every time I start FF. This seems to be the only website I encounter this with. System: Win7 64 bit, Home Premium, FF 38.0.1, HP Pavilion dv7. Hopefully I have provided sufficient details for someone to assist with this.

When I go to the google homepage and begin typing my search, it jumps from the middle of the screen to the top (presumably to make way for the results).
However, as I continue to type, I very often get a shopping banner that pops up right over the search box, immediately stopping me from typing [see attached image]. I then have to hit the 'X' on the right hand side of the banner before I can continue typing my search.
It's incredibly annoying, as sometimes it will keep triggering every time I click back in the search box.
It seems to be triggered if what you're typing relates to something you could buy, so for instance, if you were to type in the name of a book or film, it would pop up with a link to ebay or amazon, and give you the best price for that item.
It's not in my add-ons. I'm on XP, using Firefox 38.0.5
Is this adware or something Mozilla have added, thinking it would be a useful tool?

This was disabled in FF29. There seems to be consensus that this is a necessary feature (see all the comments on the bugs), so why is nobody working on it?
