All this new technology finally bit me in the arse!  :( I did something on my PC computer by accident one day last week and my husbands ipad all of a sudden had my bookmarks from the PC on it in Safari, so I deleted them so he could have his OLD bookmarks back, they were still there, just at the end of the line. Well, lo and behold firefox updated itself and restarted and voila, all my bookmarks are gone and I'm left with his on my PC! That's bad, that's real bad. Is there ANY way to get the old bookmarks back? I'm already unselected bookmarks sync in my settings now on this PC, but is the damage done already?

Please see a typical display here:

This, I am happy to say, does not happen with every website I visit, but it happens often enough to be a real nuisance.

Here is a list of *some* of the webpages where I have encountered this phenomenon:

http://preview.tinyurl.com/ov7pcrs

http://preview.tinyurl.com/omeov9u

http://preview.tinyurl.com/yrtpxf (all Wikipedia pages)

http://preview.tinyurl.com/ppp8vog (all tv-series.me pages)

http://preview.tinyurl.com/pm5q2se

http://preview.tinyurl.com/ygfsd68

Sure hope that there is an easy solution. I reverted to the Classic Display to work around it, only to find that it didn't solve the problem.

Cheers, Tony

Hello, I am having issues with Firefox rendering text badly and other graphical issues regardless of hardware acceleration.

With hardware acceleration turned ON, I have issues with "ghost text cursors" appearing in various parts of the interface, most notably in the tabs next to the X button on each tab, but also other sections of the interface as well. Text is rendered at correct thickness, but in some cases blinks back and forth from correct to too-thin (see below/off) in sync with the blinking speed of text cursors.

With hardware acceleration turned OFF, I have issues where text in menus and webpages are rendered too thin, making it extremely hard to see. The blinking issues and artifacts are gone, however.

I am using an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti with the latest driver version (344.48).

This only started happening around version 33.0, possibly one version older (not 100% sure). I really don't want to pick and choose between which crappy experience I'd rather have. I just want text to render how it used to, nice and clean and legible. What can I try to remedy this?

Hi All,

I have an account at CDBaby (where you can sell music) and they have embeddable players where it can play a clip (or a full song if set for it) right there in the player, then there are links on the player for someone to by the mp3s, that part takes you to CdBaby for purchase where the actual music file is stored.

The player is set up at CdBaby and the code (which is an iframe with the player maybe a js, but not sure on that) is given to you to put wherever you want.

I have a Wordpress blog and have had zero problems with posting 18 of the small version of the player and 18 of the larger ones with album art over this last month.

They worked just fine and then today I go to add a new song and no players are showing.

The Wordpress theme has not been updated nor has anything else at the blog end of all this.

I have Firefox 33.0.1 and the players didn't show upon reinstalling even without any addons. I now added a few but even disabling them it doesn't help.

BUT they show normally on Opera which I also have on my computer so it doesn't look like it's a firewall issue.

Some Mozilla help page said to check and I ended up going to Adobe and I made sure to download and install the latest JS and that didn't help.

I tried disabling all addons in Firefox and then even started in safe mode and then just went ahead and had it reinstall Firefox where it only saved bookmarks and such, but no addons or settings.

Any ideas what this could be? I'll be getting ready to share my music site soonish and need to know that it will work for most people, but if it's an issue with the latest Firefox I'll wait till it's changed or whatever.

Thanks in advance!

Peace, Steve

Well as you can see whenever FF needs a restart, by clicking an updated add-on or using "restartless restart" add-on it closes down and won't restart. If after waiting you try to reload FF the system says FF is running you must close FF. Only way to do this is to use Cont + Alt + Del keys and delete the FF app in task mgr. Been a long time (very) since the last time it did this. Please note that I had to manually down this Ver (33.0.1) and the dialog box (2nd. below) says Ver 33.0 .

My Firefox installation (v33) does not play HMTL5 audio. I am referring to audio (MP3) tracks you can listen from your personal Google Drive. The stream does not start, there is no duration of the track being populated.

- Youtube HTML5 player works fine both for Audio and Video - Tried Incognito mode (no cache and cookies) - Tried rebooting without Add-ons (I use Adblock and other stuff) - Tried restoring Firefox.

None of these helped.

- IE11 and Chrome v38, the browser do stream fine - A clean Firefox (on my VM for example) does stream fine

Any hints?

EDIT: Coud I be affected by this? https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=911837

After I closed it out, I saw another window that said something like "firefox needs to update". So, without thinking, I clicked it. Did I just mess up really bad, or did I NOT just make a huge mistake?

I'm trying to use Firefox with Java both on a usb stick. On Windows this works with setting the MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH environment variable to java plugin location (..\Java\bin\plugin2).

I tried to do the same on Mac OS X (10.9.5), Firefox 33.0.1, Java 7u67 but it doesn't work. It works only if Java is locally installed.

For the test I copied the /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin and unpacked JRE (jre/lib) to some test directory and set the MOZ_PLUGIN_PATH to it.

Thanks in advance for any help, Marko

I keep having constant crashes with Firefox lately, and it seems to be entirely random as to when it happens. I don't think it is any of my plugins because I have practically the exact same setup on another computer and haven't had any crashes.

I've tried running many anti-virus scans, used firefox's plug-in and add-on checker to check for updates (and it said that they were all up-to-date), memtest found nothing wrong with the computer and I've kept mostly everything clean. I also did a clean restart of firefox and it still didn't fix anything at all either.

On 10/27 I moved my Bookmarks to a safe folder, deleted FF completely & installed a new copy. Then dragged my Bookmarks back. Then spent MANY hours repopulating my Addons, re-doing login recognitions, etc

Been working OK since then, but with not too many Tabs open.

Now, Suddenly, creating a new Window shows all these Console Errors. And my keyboard is sluggish; I am out-typing the screen response by quite a bit.

I had my usual "several" (probably 3 to 5) Firefox windows/tabs open ... and Microsoft decided to send an update to my Windows 7 box.

I observed Firefox memory use rise rapidly to nearly 800MB ... while netsvcs.exe did approximately the same thing. (This machine has 2GB of RAM.)

Fortunately I had Windows Performance Monitor running, and was able to determine that Windows Update was the competing activity ... and after-the-fact, determined that it had been installing an update to MS Security Essentials (basically a malware signature update - and I have the ID of the specific update, but since it is a security update, I'm hesitant to post that detail in a quasi-public forum). Usually, such updates install quickly and transparently. I also cannot tell, with confidence, whether the memory consumption was from the process of installing the signature - or the process of scanning for malware presence after the sig was installed (although I'd *guess* the latter). I believe both of those aspects execute within netsvcs.exe.

This happened over a period of approximately an hour, during which about all I could do was "sniff around" to identify the culprits; eventually I killed the Firefox process (hoping that its History feature would allow me to return to my open tabs... which was not quite true).

I have reported the event to Microsoft as well, as it could equally be their problem.

Suggestion: Add instrumentation to Firefox to capture data on sudden increases in RAM use - paying particular attention to outside-the-norm values, in relatively short time periods (minutes, not hours) that do not self-resolve ... and consider whether Firefox can be more aggressive at releasing memory it has "claimed," when things go bad.

(Perhaps collect high-level "physical memory available" data when things begin to "go bad," and capture the "footprint" of Firefox memory use... And perhaps add intelligence to log memory allocation failures somewhere. I don't know with certainty if the issue was fragmentation, or the sheer amount requested, but experience and grey-hair lead me to suspect the former. The only Firefox window/tab that I know might have been a high-memory-consumer was a moderate-sized Google Map covering an urban area of several dozen square miles, so it was a complex image.)

Not suggesting this is Firefox's "fault" -- clearly, both processes were "to blame" in the sense that they didn't handle the situation well... but Firefox might handle it better.

I've seen (and reported) quite a series of memory-utilization issues since 28.0 ... perhaps it's time for a "tiger team" to look into these.

AH - one other detail: I keep Firefox pinned to the Windows task bar, and when it starts, it asks me which profile I want to use (of about 5 choices). When restarting Firefox after identifying all the above... I found that it no longer asked me to choose a profile, and the profile it opened was clearly NOT my most-common profile, which includes (e.g.) all my most-common, site-specific login information. I had to mess around for several minutes to get this profile "back" up and running, and I did not make note of what I tried during that effort.
