I now have Firefox 60.0 and noticed that some of the bookmark site symbols , that are unrelated, now have a globe identifying symbol. This makes it hard to pick a see the type of bookmark I am looking for. All my you tube bookmarks have to red with the white right facing triangle and all my real estate bookmarks have a red circle with a white upward pointing arrow. This is now not the case. It seems to be a random thing that the identifying symbol is , in some case replaced with a globe with grid line. Is this a Firefox bug . Thanks for your assistance.

This is very weird. I lost a lot of my bookmarks, including folders I made a while ago. It looks like it reverted to a list of bookmarks from a long time ago. Al the bookmarks now have the same little globe picture instead of the normal ones representing the individual pages, like a red triangle for my YouTube Music links . I tried to restore them via Firefox itself. This failed. I tried Mozbackup, this failed. I uninstalled Firefox, restarted my computer and reinstalled. The wrong old bookmarks automatically appeared again and recovering still did not work.

I still have a relatively recent list that I exported to Chrome. I could import them back in and can probably manually restore most by shifting folders and individual bookmarks around. In that case I would 'only' have lost a few weeks. Very annoying.

I would like to know what happened, how to prevent this from happening again and a possible fix

Lost Favicons With Firefox 62 Upgrade

All,

I know this is like a broken record, but I'm to a point where I'm about to give upon Firefox after all these years...

After the last problem, reported here under two (2) entries - lost all favicons in the upgrades from 60 to 61, got to a point where I couldn't even delete any bookmarks, so I uninstalled Firefox completely, every trace, including bookmarks.

I have had no desktop version of Firefox for sometime now, but did keep Portable Firefox updated, including bookmarks.

I downloaded a fresh install of Firefox 62 this week, no issues setting it up, imported the HTML bookmark export file from Portable Firefox, no issues.

Since the problems in 60 and 61, I now approach my bookmarks differently, I removed almost 3000 business bookmarks and now have them in a Word file, kept about 1000 active in FF.

When I set up FF62 and imported from file, all my favicons were there in both sandboxed and unsandboxed Firefox (I use Sandboxie).

Booted up this morning, all favicons are gone again, every single one of them.

I have no issues with bookmark favicons in Portable Firefox, Slimjet (Chrome) or Waterfox - they all have identical counts and all favicons are present - just desktop Firefox and just since FF60.

I have no issues with any of those browsers either sandboxed or unsandboxed either.

I started with a completely fresh install, new profile, no bookmarks. When I downloaded and set up FF62, everything was great - I set up FF in an unsandboxed environment, always do.

Portable Firefox, Portable Thunderbird and Thunderbird run flawlessly, I don't get it.

What am I doing wrong?

I am at a complete loss.

Any ideas?

Thanks, in advance.

Before installing Firefox version 62, all my bookmarks had icons from their sites. Also, on the search bar, when I type a letter, a drop down of possible sites I have bookmarked would appear and I can pick and choose. Now, after updating to version 62, all my bookmarks appear as gray globe. I've tried every solution posted on your site to no avail. I want a solution to this problem a.s.a.p. I should've never updated to version 62.

... and Mozilla can't figure out how to keep favicons from other browsers or between synced computers? This is absurd on its face. Mozilla would love for you to switch browsers, but beware if you do that EVERY. SINGLE. ONE. of your favicons will turn into a generic icon. The only fix is to visit all your links, as many at a time as the browser and your computer can handle, to get them back. And oh, having done this on one computer, prepare to do it all over again on another because THE FAVICONS DON'T SYNC with your version of Firefox on another computer.

What a total load of garbage, and I'm running Quantum with all updates on Windows 10 with all updates so that's not the issue.

Chrome, Edge, and other browsers keep these sync'd flawlessly and import favicons from other browsers flawlessly.

Fix this Mozilla!

Only effects certain websites, and only on my laptop, not my desktop. Most sites are fine. Seems to have occurred when I bookmarked a site on my desktop, and then my laptop synced and got screwed up. Not quite sure though.

For example, Wolfram Alpha's website does not display the favicon:

   - there is no favicon in the tab
   - when bookmarked there is no favicon

Deleting browsing data doesn't fix it. Deleting places.sqlite doesn't fix it. Refreshing the page doesn't fix it. Restarting my computer doesn't fix it.

I don't want to do a reinstall, if anything, because I shouldn't have to.

I'm only annoyed by this because I use the favicons (without text next to them) as links in the bookmarks bar. I can't do this if I don't know what the favicon is, and thus don't know what the website is.

On Firefox 60/62, I am seeing a mismatch of images being used for icons shown on the tabs and those shown for saved bookmarks. So far, I am only seeing this on the MDL forums here https://forums.mydigitallife.net . I am testing this with the portable version of FF. Does anyone know what might be causing this?

FF should be using the same image seen on the tabs which reflects the favicon.ico. I don't understand why FF is using a different image for the saved bookmarks. See http://i66.tinypic.com/1fvlab.jpg If I delete the incorrect image from the favicon.sqlite db the saved bookmark icons revert back to the favicon image and there is no longer a mismatch. As soon as I select the reverted bookmark to view that web page, it gets refreshed with the other image which ends up back in the favicon.sqlite again. Why is FF picking up a different image for the bookmarks?

I would appreciate it if someone could try the portable and save some bookmarks from MDL to see if you get the same results as me.

I have 100's of bookmarks, so how do I update them all automatically? I'm not about to go through all of these links... The Add-Ons available in the past (Reloader, etc.) no longer work with FF 49. Why is this broken? Even the developer of Reloader says he can't support FF 49.

I have Windows 10 Home with Firefox 62.0. I have pinned to the bookmarks toolbar the web site, the weather network. It has a circular, stylized yellow icon resembling the earth. Recently that icon has been replaced with an icon the site uses to show extreme weather (a red icon with a lightning bolt through it). I have unpinned the web site and re-pinned it - no luck. I repeated unpinning the site, closing Firefox and re-starting my computer, re-pinning the site - still no luck. The red icon with a lightning bolt persists. I am just a user with no coding or programming experience. So any solutions anyone could offer please keep it simple. Thank you.

When having a png, pdf, jpeg, gif etc. open, it Firefox would usually show a little icon for it on the tab bar, showing you what image is opened on it without having to be on the tab (this only worked when the image wasn't too big or the there weren't too many tabs open at once). However, these icons don't show up anymore at all since the last update. I tried refreshing the tabs several times, even closing them and opening them again, yet to no avail. This makes it difficult to know which one of the images you have opened is the one you need, as all tabs only show the title of the image, not what image is on it. I'd just like to know if this is a bug, if that feature was simply removed, or if there's some setting that I can enable to make them show up again.

Thanks in advance! :D

I am looking for a CURRENT (sept 2015) solution to add an icon to the toolbar for bookmarks that do not generate one of their own. Example: I have several bookmarks that ONLY generate a dashed line box for their icon, if I set it so I only see the icon (to save toolbar space) I have no way of telling the many dashed line boxes apart. I have seen Bookmark Favicon referenced but it appears not to work any longer.

My Second Life avatar was grief-ed by being flung into mid air by either a script, a push or a repluser. I personally am convinced that is was a script of some sort. Another avatar di try to aid me by sending a teleport request yet every time my avatar landed in the same area I bounced back to both mid air and the land boundaries of where I was at the time.
