Hello, I've only recently started using Firefox and the browser used to update automatically, however, today, I got a pop-up message asking me to update it. It was from "Mozilla Corporation", plus at that time the browser was working extremely slow, which that got me thinking that maybe it wasn't working efficiently due to not being updated. So, I ran the program and installed the update, and later, on visiting this page, I got to know that most of such pop-ups are malwares. I got extremely scared and decided to search the update history of the browser.

It said the following:

"Firefox 100.0 Installed on: (today's date) Status: The update could not be installed (patch apply failed)."

This confused me further as I don't know if what I installed was a malware program or a genuine update.

Could you please help me out ?

New computer (Windows 11) shows 'Old Firefox Data'. Opened hidden files. Using File Explorer found Profile Folder & renamed it 'old'. Copied and pasted 'Old Firefox Data' as new profile. Firefox would not open. Had to remove etc and Firefox worked again. Thought this maybe the easiest way to get my Bookmarks back.

PS Presume Profile Folder does not contain Thunderbird Addresses?

Why has this started up again? Pdf files are automatically downloading to my computer when all I want to do is look at the file. So many files that now need to be trashed after looking at them. This problem has happened in the past, but was resolved, only now I am finding it happen again. I do not want to have files saved unless I want to save them, not Firefox deciding that any file I open should be saved. I have Windows 11 & Firefox Version 113.0.1. Is there a way to revert to an older version of Firefox?

Hello,

I have an active Pocket subscription for more than 8 years now. I wanted to migrate it to use Firefox accounts. However, by mistake I created a new firefox account using the signup journey - and I used a different email for this. When I logged into my Pocket account, it asked me to update and I did. I said I'd want to login to my Firefox account using my new account - so typed in my new email address and signin. It was actually prompting me to just enter password and continue using my old account - but I declined and changed the email to login to my new account. I was hoping both these would be merged. But they didnt' and after a bit of to and fro, I changed my new Firefox accounts email to the one that I'm already using for my Pocket account and did the same signup journey. They are merged now but I've got no data in my pocket - it's like a new account.

Please can someone help?

Thanks.

After downloading latest version of Firefox my bookmarks where deleted, so I restored my laptop back to an earlier date and now just Dismiss it when it says an update is available. How will I know when this problem has been taken care of where I can update Firefox? Firefox is the only browser I have as I've did everything to block Microsoft from taking over my laptop. I'm fixing to delete my old Microsoft account to complete that procedure. I'd have to research Chrome to see if they attempt to control what I can do with my laptop like Microsoft does. My only problem with Firefox was they allowed Microsoft to do it's best to change my system to Edge, but I'm still fighting them.

Just noticed at bottom of this page under Troubleshooting information,

 "securitySoftware": {
   "registeredAntiVirus": "Microsoft Defender Antivirus"

Now I see I still have connections to Microsoft. Thank you Mozilla for showing me this. I've got to change my security for this. Hope Firefox has it's on.

I have been using Firefox 56.0.2 on Windows 7 for years safely. Until yesterday. We had one of those mini powerouts, that caused problems.

My hard drive is failing and Firefox will no longer fully load, it tries bless it, but some FF files must be in the damaged sectors of the hard drive. It then locks the system. Using Chrome works fine. But some logins/passwords/bookmarks had to be changed very recently and are not stored in the chrome browser yet. I hate chrome so use FF as the main browser.

I'm thinking that if I can install a fresh copy of FF 56.0.2 in a separate folder, a separate 2nd copy of FF, and then copy yesterday mornings backed up FF profile (before the crash) I could at least copy over all the bookmarks etc to Chrome so I can have my logins etc back.

This mornings backup failed to backup some FF files, all others were fine. Firefox worked fine yesterday but failed to launch this morning.

Please help save my sanity. I know I have to move to W 10, but cannot on this computer.

How does one migrate Firefox bookmarks and passwords from an old computer to a new computer?

There are four computers involved in this shuffle. Two new, one being retired, and one being repurposed. The only thing we haven't been able to figure out, is how to migrate Firefox's information from one computer to another one.

And, we've been working on this since Christmas. Edge, Brave, and Chrome took minutes. Combined.

But, transferring the information on Firefox has been impossible. Yes, I've read the help topics. No, they were not helpful. Firefox will not accept either the backup or export files from the old Firefox across multiple computers.

Yes, I have Sync. And, no, that hasn't worked either.

So, what is the next step?

I downloaded a Windows 10 update last night. It was Security Intelligence Update for Microsoft Defender Antivirus - KB2267202 (Version 1.361.793.0). Now, I cannot open Firefox. When I click on Firefox for around half a second I see an error box that says "Open Firefox in troubleshooting mode?" and nothing else, with no option to click yes, then the box closes. The same thing happens when I try to run firefox.exe -p to change profiles. I also cannot open Tor Browser, and I am wondering if there is a connection. I have tried uninstalling Firefox using the uninstall tool and reinstalling but I have the same issue. I uninstalled the windows update and opened Firefox. This time, it had the "Open Firefox in troubleshooting mode?" box but I could actually click on the yes option, and Firefox opened. However, when I clicked on the option to get a fresh install and remove the extensions, Firefox closed and I am back to the same place of it not being able to open again.

Hello, I am still using windows 8.1 64bit & refuse windows 10, due to high risk privacy, yes predictable hollow words are said, BUT is Microsoft, a greedy un-scrupled money making, money hungry corporate entity, wants us to willing give it our private details voluntarily or under thin layer of extortion.

Hence my sticking to windows 8.1 as I have certain control, mainly updates.

Will Mozilla browsers be specifically supporting older operating systems like windows 8.1 into the coming years, not just months, e.g. until January 2023

Yes is a blunt question, but is eluded against in other responses, maybe is Microsoft buy out to sacrifice mozilla loyal users or similar, same query is for Brave browser. Mozilla I think is last Bastian for decency & morality, a leader in justice & honour.
