Firefox does not show up as an option for pdf files under Control Panel's "Choose default apps by file type".

The problem is on my wife's laptop, (a Dell Inspiron 5759). (Her Windows 10 is up-to-date.) She got a red screen phishing page on Firefox last week. (It claimed to be from Microsoft, and told her to call a certain number -- we did not call.) It essentially locked up her computer -- the mouse wouldn't move, even the power button didn't respond most of the time. I eventually had to unplug her power supply, and remove the battery. When it came back up from that, it responded; so, I uninstalled Firefox and deleted her cache folders.

I've reinstalled Firefox; but, now I can't associate pdf files with Firefox on her machine. Only Microsoft Edge is shown as available in "Choose default apps by file type".

In fact, there's no application specified in the Applications section under Files and Applications (my profile is new, so the table listing applications for specific content is empty). Nevertheless, Firefox attempts to open file (.csv, .txt) using SDM (which is Secure Download Manager). This seems to be strange behavior (at least) because SDM is not specified in the Windows 7 default programs, too. So how Firefox guesses which program should be used? Appropriate description in support section (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/change-firefox-behavior-when-open-file) does not consider such a case. How it is possible?

I had ms outlook mail which I uninstalled, on my toolbar, but now have MS Office 2016 as my email or should I say outlook 2016. The 'mail' icon in FF customized toolbar, still brings up the old outlook, which of course is a blank page. I've moved the mail icon back to the 'bookmark toolbar items', restarted ff browser and moved the 'mail envelope' back into the toolbar. Same problem. It brings up an old email that no longer exists except for 'Choose which account to send the email from' and 'cancel'. I can't type in the blue box and there's no place to add the correct email. I hope I'm explaining this right so someone can steer me in the right direction.

How to stop automatically downloading a file if you open it using 'open in new tab' option available when you right click the link on the file?

Whenever I open a file embedded online, I used to open it in new tab and it used to show me the file preview in the new tab. Now, whenever I do the same, the file just automatically downloaded in pc and it's such a waste of time to go to the download folder and reopen it. It works when the file is opened in the same tab but it keeps downloading when I right click on the file and click "Open in New Tab" which is the ideal option that I want to use for more efficient file viewings especially when you need to open multiple files in the same webpage. Please help.

Hi, I'm currently running version 63.0.1 , something has changed with my browser, previously when I clicked on a pdf file it would automatically open within the firefox browser. It's rather frustrating to me as a user of this great browser when a pdf file attempts to open using something other than firefox. I feel sure there MUST be some method to correct this issue. Thanks, David

I was using Chrome, but I wanted to try the "new" Firefox. I love it so far. It's faster than Chrome too! One thing that Chrome made me do was to always "save" photo attachments sent to me from anyone - primarily AOL accounts though. But when I switched to Firefox I was delighted that when I went to open a photo attachment in AOL mail, Firefox had me default to a program that just opened it, no saving it. Well, that went away today, and I'm not sure what happened.

Last night as I closed my system, Microsoft did an "update". Not sure if this had anything to do with it, especially since MS is waging war on Firefox and Chrome.

Do you have any suggestions as to how I can just "open" a photo in my AOL email without having to save it?

Thanks!!!!

It used to be that if I went to the website for a service like Zoom or GoToMeeting, and I attempted to start a meeting from the website, a window would appear asking me if I wanted to launch the service's desktop plugin. That is no longer the case and it forces me to re-download and install the desktop application every time I try.

Also, when using Sharepoint, I used to be able to select a document and choose "Edit in Word". This would also cause a window to appear asking me if I wanted to launch Word. That is also no longer the case.

Where have the application associations gone?

We have a cloud system that allows us to open labels as a PDF. I have a bash script that examines the PDF and sends it to the correct printer. The PDF is sent after a button is pressed in a form with target="_blank"

I have therefore set PDFs to open with this bash script in Preferences > Applications

However, every time I press the button to generate the PDF I get a dialogue dox asking "What should Firefox do with this file". The bash script is selected by default and all I have to do is press OK, but even though "do this automatically" is checked, I get the confirmation box every time.

I would like the script to be opened automatically without the dialogue box appearing- how can I do this? The headers the cloud server sends are:
