Using latest Firefox version (132.0) on Windows 10. For a few days now, something weird is happening with my Firefox. On browsing the internet with an image on a page and I right-click and save it, it gets properly saved to my downloads folder. Then, on Firefox, when I click on the downloads button and pick the just downloaded image, it opens the app with the image (in my case, irfanview), but the iview window does not get focus, it stays behind the Firefox window. If I click on the iview window on the taskbar, or minimize the Firefox window, I can see the image, the iview window is not minimized or anything. The problem is definitely with Firefox. I went to Windows settings, changed the image handling app to Windows Photos and the same thing happened. I have disabled all Firefox extensions and the issue still surfaces. Same thing if I start a new Firefox private window, so I am clueless as what is causing this. Even more puzzling, the problem only happens with images, PDF files, for example, open fine and Adobe Reader window gets focus and I can see the file right away. Tried to create a new Firefox profile, just in case, and I have the same problem. What changed since this was working fine? Just Firefox and Windows updates, nothing else changed, I didn't touch Firefox settings at all. Any ideas? Thanks for your help.

I'm facing an issue in Firefox where the URL bar automatically gains focus whenever I open a new tab. I’m using my own HTML file as a custom new tab page, and I’ve designed it to load specific content and tools that I frequently use. The problem I’m facing is that when the new tab loads, the URL bar automatically takes focus, which disrupts my workflow. Instead, I want the focus to shift to my custom search bar so I can start searching immediately without additional clicks. How can I accomplish this?

Hi,

since today my cookie-deletion-prompt is super small and therefore not usable. I cannot resize the window or scroll etc.

Does anyone else has this problem? I already updated Firefox but that did not help.

I am posting this to pass on knowledge that I wish I discovered earlier, probably because of my failure to pay attention when I acquired this PC, a Windows 10 64-bit. Periodically I tried and failed to update both Firefox and Thunderbird through its About drop down menu option. I would shut down, restart, hoping over time it would update by itself. This time around when that didn't work, I realized that for Thunderbird an updated version was available through the Microsoft Store, I chose that. All one has to do is click on Free Get. Then, the program applies the update. That routine works with Firefox too on Windows 10. So, when these updates become available, find them on the Microsoft Store, chose them and the respective programs with update.

I've always chosen the Settings option to notify me about updates but let me choose to install them. Those notifications still give me the option to "dismiss," but these days ignore that and proceed to install the updates anyway. Worse, I can't even choose to restart at my convenience: The browser basically stops working until I do that, displaying the message I've attached here. (There used to be a Settings option to "Use a background service to install updates" that could be unchecked, but it's not there any more.)

This is not only obnoxious but a practical inconvenience because every time it happens I have to repopulate my Private Browsing sites. I'd hoped that there would be a fix in the latest update (that just forced itself on me) - 132.0 - but no.

Anyone else experiencing this?

FF v131.0.3

Just started seeing this issue when selecting a news item video in emails from Haystack News Midweek Report <founders@haystack.tv>.

Normally, selecting an item in the email message would open the subject story video in a new tab where I can 'play' the video. Now I get the new tab opened with a blank (white) screen, but noticed something strange in the URL. Here's an example: https://notifications.haystack.tv/CL0/https://www.haystack.tv/v/economy-grew-robust-pace-quarter.

https://notifications.haystack.tv/CL0/ is leading the normal URL address. If I take this part out the video loads and plays as expected.

Anyone have an idea what caused this? Thx.

I got an error with firefox. Saw it was not latest. Couldn't uninstall. Installed correct version over old one. Didn't have latest bookmarks. I see Imported bookmarks at top and imported(2) which are probably from when I got my new laptop although I have added many since.. How do I at least get the imported ones into my bookmarks and can I then delete those two files? and how do I get my latest bookmarks back? I went to manage bookmarks and mistakenly selected 10/31 and now I don't see the old ones. Windows 11

Hi

Any help will be appreciated as I have this issue over a year. I thought with the updates it would be fixed but it seems like its only my firefox browser issue.

Every time I try to view a YouTube video it keeps crashing. I get this message - Gah. Your tab just crashed. We can help! Choose Restore This Tab to reload the page. YouTube works in other browsers though.

wtf is going on with you guys. I have automatic updates turned on, and yet FF is demanding to check (literally 5 minutes after the update) to see if a new update is needed. If you guys can't control your updaters, then perhaps I will switch to google chrome.

you have to realize that this issue is causing you to lose 100% of your loyal fans in lieu of a different browser. I'm halfway out the door already. Either fix the issues, or I'm gone.

I am getting a very annoying screen that asks if I want to autofill an address. Since I am part of a registration team that has sometimes several hundred applications to process, it is VERY VERY ANNOYING to be asked if I want to save an address of a person on the application (most of whom I don't even know). I have "unchecked" the "autofill address" under Privacy & Security, but I'm still getting the screen. Any help that can provide would be greatly appreciates.

Tried to sync my extensions to a new computer, but some of them don't appear. It seems they have been officially taken down by Firefox. I tried to manually transfer the xpi file from one profile to the other but it says "this addon could not be installed because it appears to be corrupt". The new computer I'm trying to transfer the extensions is running Ubuntu and the old one Windows 10 (not sure if it was relevant, but anyways).

Thanks for your help.

When I install a desktop firefox update, the extension parameter in LastPass, that will let me close LastPass if not used for 30 minutes, is changed. The option is unclicked and the time removed. So every update, I have to check the LastPass extension parameters - a total pain.

If I don't notice, this means lastpass and all my passwords are left open and available to a hacker all the time. I chose a close time because I want to. Probably others do, too.

Please try to identify and find what in your updates is changing this option and STOP doing that. Or provide a warning of what parameters need to be checked/will be changed. Thanks

At some point in the last few weeks -- possibly after an upgrade -- I've noticed that some websites such as the Washington Post and Fidelity can take minutes rather than seconds to load. The problem doesn't seem to be with the sites themselves (because they load fine on Chrome) or with my hardware (because exactly the same thing happens on both of my computers). Has anyone else noticed this?

( I'm running Firefox 131.0.3 on Windows.)

Firefox updated from 131 to 132 and deleted all bookmarks, history and emptied the bookmarkbackups folder. It displays a message that a Firefox file is open by another application and that some security software can cause this problem. According to Task Manager there are no other applications running, nor is security software running. (I turned off Windows Defender and rebooted.) The problem persists. If I can't recover the 80 or so complex bookmarks, I'll have to try MS Edge browser. I'm sure that months of history is not recoverable and is lost forever.

Was this software quality tested prior to distribution? If so, it wasn't very thorough.

Why does Firefox delete files and folders during an update? It would be better to make a backup copies prior to unleashing a destructive update on unsuspecting users.

Before you ask, no I don't create full backups because a) my laptop is used 12 x 7 weekly, b) a 4TB SSD full backup takes days, not hours depending on the destination and c) a 4TB SSD differential backup takes more than a day. I've tried both and they are not practical.
