Before I changed internet service providers, I could type my search queries into the url bar and receive search results from Google. After I switched ISPs, my queries typed into the url bar are put into my new ISP's horrible search engine. How do I change it back?

I've already tried going to about:config and changing the value of the keyword.URL preference to "http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&q=" but that didn't fix my problem.

New information since creation of the post:

My ISP is Optimum. I have opted out of DNS Assistance and still have seen no change.

When my search term is two words or more, I am directed to Google search results. If my search term is only one word, however, I am still directed to Optimum's search results.

I just updated to FF 23. When I clicked on options>content> there is no longer a " Load images automatically" nor an "Enable JavaScript" option. I need to switch back-and-forth frequently throughout the day for both of these options in order for my computer not to slowdown considerably--if not outright freeze--especially when accessing certain image-heavy sites, etc.

Where are these options now located, or do they exist at all now? If not they MUST be re-established for me to continue to use this browser.

In order to avoid updates at unexpected times, I have tried everything, from turning updates off in the options window to setting to false everything with the word update in it in the about:config, to uninstalling the Mozilla Maintenance service, but Firefox still surprises me periodically with a pop up window that says Firefox or the computer need to be restarted to finish an upgrade.

How do I prevent it from updating automatically once and for all?

Yesterday all of a sudden my webpages and UI appeared to be magnified. While I can zoom out on websites, I cannot find any option to adjust the size of the UI.

I noticed that Firefox 22 (which I am running) has a new feature: "Windows: Firefox now follows display scaling options to render text larger on high-res displays". Is it possible to adjust how Firefox responds to the display scaling options perhaps?

The new version of Adobe Flash 11 is atrocious... I want to use version 10.3, but when it's installed it always asks me if I want to activate this plugin on every video... That's really annoying. :( I've tried to set the plugin to 'Always Activate', but the option is unavailable in the addon options. Is there another way to fix this so it's always active, or do I need to find another browser in the meantime until Firefox gets their stuffs together?

Firefox Version 23.0 Mac 10.8.4

With version 23 of Firefox the preference "Load Images Automatically" under the content tab is GONE. The only options that remain are Block Pop Up Windows, Fonts & Colors, and Languages.

I use this preference EXTENSIVELY and I have searched every corner of the preference panel in case it was moved and I cannot find it anywhere. Please do not tell me you got rid of this function.

With firefox quantum the usual curvy tabs are now lame and rectangular, like microsoft edge, which is almost as square as being square. Is there a way to return to that layout, with the curvy tabs and the refresh button inside the address bar, or will I have to reinstall an earlier version of firefox? Would a theme be able to change that, (which I realize wouldn't have been created yet), or would the "firefox won't support complete themes after v57" thing stop that from happening, since it messes with the tab shape? Since firefox is open-source, if I wanted to learn how to make a theme including the curvy tabs, would I be able to get code to salvage from mozilla? Also, I can't get the refresh button back inside the address bar. File image gives example of preferred tab curve and refresh button location.

I know this seems like a minor thing, but thanks for help.

I was lissening to online radio. Firefox needed to update. After the latest update the windows media player plugin dissapeared from the add-on list, while still being installed correct. I reinstalled it, but that didn't work. I replaced/deleted some files in firefox as suggested for similiar problems, but that didn't work either. Now I can't play wmp files anymore on firefox.

I hope u can help me solve this problem.

Changes in Firefox 23 - not for the better

I just got Firefox 23, and found there is no more Enable Javascript checkbox in the Content area of Preferences and there is no more ability to prevent changes to the functioning of the context menu and prevent the changing of the size or position of the window. I really do not understand why certain settings to control what may be done by web page code to the browser are being gutted out. Presumably it means that any smartass who can write a web page can force my browser window to be whatever size he wants it to be. That used to drive me crazy in the past, and it will do the same thing again. Is there any way to make a capability policy that could stop the resizing of the window? I just found out that I can still use the context menu if I use Shift-right-click. Why the change?

Autohiding the tab bar does not work any more. I thought the big argument for trying to put tabs on top and into the title bar was to save space? Forcing the tab bar to be visible all the time will certainly not save space, so why do it?

My bookmark menu was removed from the bookmarks toolbar. I tried to find a button that would put it back, and there are two bookmarks buttons in the customize window. Are the developers trying to make things harder, or what?

Aster using Firefox for the last two years, I had to uninstall and reinstall it after downloading the latest version. Surprise, there is the ever-present Yahoo toolbar following me everyplace I go like a faithful dog.

How do I get rid of it and use Google when I do a search? When getting to a new website from my homepage, I want a new tab to come up for me to type the new address. If I cannot do this, the whole tab concept has gone out of the window. I should not have to go to a Yahoo search tool that in many cases what I see in the search results has nothing to do with the website I want to go to.

Help!

I really like using FireFTP. However, since it won't be compatible with Firefox 57 in Nov 2017, what is the best alternative(s)?

UPDATE:

I tried using four free alternative FTP clients today: ClassicFTP, WinSCP, Cyberduck, FileZilla.

My first choice (and one I will be using) is ClassicFTP because of its' simplicity and similarities to FireFTP. My second choice would be WinSCP. The other two have lots of extras that I don't need and thus make them more complicated to use.

Below is a May 9, 2017 post by Mime Cuvalo, who designed FireFTP, about the "legacy" of FireFTP. It can be found at the bottom of the page at: https://github.com/mimecuvalo/fireftp/issues/192

mimecuvalo commented on May 9, 2017: "Development on FireFTP is slowing down since Firefox is dropping support for it in version 57 later in the year. Hence, motivation for working on it isn't the highest currently. I'll probably be porting FireFTP at least to PaleMoon so that the extension survives. Cheers! Mime"

My Firefox updated today and all of a sudden the color of all background tabs is black. I really dislike this, and I am finding it extremely difficult on my eyes. I did a search of help on how to fix this, and it suggested addons. I have no problem downloading addonns, but none of them are compatible with the most recent version of Firefox. Is there a way to change the black background of tabs so they're not so annoying? Thanks.

As of about firefox 63, it will no longer be possible to prevent firefox from checking for updates as the preference (option) to do so is being removed. In the past, it was simply a matter of setting the option to never check for updates. This is important in an organization as you want everyone to be at the same level. In such organizations, the latest firefox would be obtained once, checked out, then rolled out to the organization from it's support system team/person. Is there going to be a way to prevent the message "an update is available, please install?"
