When I want to go to the NY Times, and i type "nyt" the address bar automatically populated with the rest of the URL "nytimes.com". When I do the same thing with gmail and "gmail" it runs a search on a search engine instead of completing the rest of the URL.

Why would it do this for one website and not another? How do I fix this, I use gmail all the time so its a bit of a time waster.

Whenever I open a new tab or window, I'm greeted with the Firefox home screen, which displays various shortcut tiles.

Currently, I have a shortcut for Amazon, which includes a handy blue magnifying glass symbol 🔎 indicating it's a search shortcut and not a shortcut that will take me to an URL. I'm looking to set up similar search shortcuts for YouTube and Google. I've attached an image below for reference.

If anyone is familiar with how to customize these search shortcuts in Firefox, your guidance would be greatly appreciated. Please let me know if you have any tips or steps to follow.

Every time I right click and select "Open Link in New Tab" Firefox is not opening this new tab next to the current tab. It instead moves this new tap to the end of all the tabs (of the current website). This is an annoying behavior, I have to go all the way to the end of the tabs to look at the name page that I just opened. How do I fix this behavior?

How can I get rid of an automatic fill of websites visited. When I go to the address bar and type in an address, I want to get rid of a website as I have no interest in having that automatically show up on my address web sites. I am using the most up to date Firefox version on a Windows 10 Microsoft Surface Pro computer.

How to go to the next page on the same website (not tab) but pagination with shortcut keys?

When I open the application it loads as a small window that I have to maximize to make it full screen. It never used to do this so I need some help to fix this. I've taken a quick look through settings etc and can't see anything wrong...

How do I add a link to the start page that shows when you open a new tab? I've read support docs and I don't have a "pin icon" on my toolbar... I'm on MacOS (M1) and latest (Feb '24) FireFox...... how can it be so non-intuitive? I can't find an option anywhere...

The latest version of Firefox I have keeps making changes to my computer every time I open the program. I have to approve the changes each time, why is the program suddenly doing this? What does it have to change on my hard drive? I don't like programs making changes to my computer when they open they are usually not to my benefit and add clutter to my computer. Hi, I'm looking for some creative solutions to be able to search for Bookmark Folders imported from other browsers. I have over thirteen thousand bookmarks and I have used some extensions to delete the duplicates. However, that has left many empty folders and worse where my Bookmarks have been removed from these folders.

With Chromium browsers, we can simply search for a Bookmark folder by typing it's name. It will show itself in the search results along with Chrome bookmarks. However, that's not the case with FF. Instead, FF allows us to create TAGS. When I search for a known Bookmark Folder (I can see it in the Bookmark Tree) it won't show up.

it's almost 2024 and I find it surprising that Mozilla hasn't yet incorporated searching for Bookmark Folders. At the same time, I am also (not) surprised that Google hasn't implemented TAGS like in Firefox. Unfortunately, neither browser is ideal for searching bookmarks including folders.

Perhaps I'm missing something and there's a feature in the About:config that allows us to search for Bookmark folders.

i'm currently writing my own firefox user.js configuration and now i'm at the topic "unloading inactive tabs" like microsoft edge does.

so what are the preferences for this kind of topic?

i want inactive tabs which have not been used for more than 5 minutes to be unloaded.

chatgpt gave me this "browser.tabs.unloadAfterDelay" preference but this one doesn't even exist in the about:config preferenes, would it still work if it doesn't even exist?

Cursor won't show when writing a letter or note. So I don't know where i stop typing? It works here but not when I open my browser to write letter?

Double page (side-by-side) viewing of PDF documents in Firefox (Windows), involves:

   go to View in the top menu, select Page Display, and choose “Two-Up”

How do you view such double pages in Firefox (Mac), since it seems not to have a "Page Display" facility?

Every time I open anew a page it invariable displays the page somewhere mid-way down requiring me to scroll up to the top (if page is large enough to warrant a scroll). I'd prefer every page open at the top at all times. Is there any switch in the configuration editor that would allow for this?

While hovering over a Youtube video it shows the full video title as "hover text" if the tab is focused. However, if something else, even another Firefox window is focused hovering no longer shows anything. Is there some kind of setting to change that? I figured it could be browser and Youtube specific because Chrome shows it on Youtube even when not focused, but neither browser shows it on Google search for example, but I'm not sure.
