I realise any privacy or user control statements made by Mozilla are really a farce. One, there's no meaningful way to protect user privacy these days, not on the web. Trying would be a more accurate term. Two, the CEO is in control of the product design and he's banking on customer loyalty, betting on an outcome where people will just continue to use the product regardless of how bad the new AI features are or how much they contradict the company's supposed ethos. And it'll probably work for a spell, but here's the thing: free clones of Firefox already exist, and customer loyalty only goes so far. It won't be terribly convenient, but if I continue to see Mozilla adopt AI in its updates, I'll just switch over to something else.

The continued implementation of AI "features" in Mozilla Firefox has made it harder and harder to do what I want! It bloats the browser and makes it harder to find the actual results I'm looking for, it violates people's privacy and fabricates potentially dangerous misinformation. Further implementation of AI will lead me- and many others- to seek alternative browsers. When will you stop spending money on a thing your users don't want?

The push for more AI is absolutely asinine. Mozilla has been my first and only choice for ages because I trust them to have the best interests of their consumers at heart. This push towards more AI is going to kill the fans of Mozilla. It’s insane that they would read the room with the failures of Copilot among other things and go “yea, sign us up for that.” I understand this is a company driven by profits, but dear god this is a terrible terrible move and I expect the fallout of this decision to be swift and severe.

I moved to Firefox because it wasn't obsessed with AI like the other browsers. If you continue with this evil plan, you will lose customers and that it both a promise and threat. Your CEO has said it's AI you can trust, ignoring all the other concerns people have with AI, like:

Water Usage Copyright breaches Hallucinations Loss of Quality Privacy breaches Storage and use of personal data, including search results and browsing Influence of racist and misogynist content from the internet on machine learning Environmental impact of the data servers to host AI A severe lack of regulations and protections regarding the above

Do NOT make this an AI browser. Your new CEO knows nothing of your market and audience and it will be your downfall.

I don't know if it's the right topic (well I guess all are very near the main issue) but I will give it a go - what's wrong with NOT HAVING AI driven browser? I was advocating for you guys for many years, using your browser and supporting your stuff because of the privacy and totally diff approach to browsing case. Yet here we are and you absolutely obliterated your own image in my eyes... AI? For real? Without a QUESTION AT START TO KILL IT IMMEDIATELY IF YOU DON'T WANT TO SEE THIS NONSENSE?

I am very sad, because I have already found an alternative and I will be saying good bye to you. It's... Been a long time, I have never betrayed you yet you... Nevermind, it's just sad that I have to go to other solutions because you can't keep your legs together...

I don't expect to get any response from you, I just wanted to share my sad thoughts and a fact that not only me but a massive amount of my dev friends have already staredt using other browsers (there are things that work better in other browsers) to make things done.

Nevertheless it was a good time. I wish you all Merry Christmas and we will remember you for a long time for so many good things.

Bye, Lucas

I genuinely don’t know where else to post this so it gets seen. I have been a devout user of Firefox for years. I love this browser. I love its dedication to privacy and functionality. I love how it has kept true to its concept and customers in the face of tech crazes like NFTs and AI integrations. I am such a hardcore proseletyzer of Firefox that I started paying for Mozilla VPN to support Firefox!!

So when I see that the new CEO, Anthony Enzor-DeMeo, is “doubling down” on AI integrations for Firefox, I AM LIVID. AI is NOT private. AI is NOT secure. And AI is TERRIBLE FOR THE ENVIRONMENT.

AI causes slower speed and longer load times. I have seen this in all my job’s internet workings (they insist on using browsers with AI integrations) and have felt a quiet relief that I get to come home to my good, simple browser.

AI is not private. It tracks and stores data in order to give suggestions “better for you”. And with the right prompts, anyone can pull that data.

Y’all really all read that one story of AI deleting the company’s ENTIRE DATABASE AND COMPUTER PROGRAMMING because it “panicked” and decided “ah yes, this is the techware we want to hand over all our customers to”??

I am so deeply disappointed by Mozilla’s betrayal of its customer base.

If Mozilla moves forward with AI integrations, I will pull out of using Firefox and I will stop giving Mozilla my money. Mozilla should not have hired a CEO who goes so adamantly against everything Mozilla as a company stands for.

And to the CEO Anthony: I hope you step in something wet in only your socks, every single day, until you either come to your senses or someone better replaces you as CEO of Mozilla.

I know some underpayed tech or a volunteer who's not getting paid at all is going to read this and not the CEO but my hope is I'm not only one complaining and that if enough people complain your new CEO will realize that the reason most people who use Firefox do is because it's the browser that respects their privacy and security the most. Adding "AI" slop into it will only contribute to bloat and privacy loss, and a lot of people will likely move on to another browser thats faster, more reliable, and less insecure. Don't try to compete with Chrome by becoming Chrome please.

Firefox has made its niche in the browser lands by being a usable user-friendly non-Chromium Privacy-First Browser. adding AI to it does nothing to improve or advance this image users have of it, and rather risks actively dicouraging new users from migrating to it, and further could result in a large group of your existing userbase leaving to find a less; unfortunately the word used for this process is enshittification; shittified browser. LLMs and other Generative AI features are tools that a vanishingly small segment of your userbase want in their browser, and certainly an addition that will drive many users away from it if it continues to be added to a large-enough extent to declare firefox as an "AI Browser". Why not just offer a different browser entirely under the mozzila umbrella that is an AI-Forward Browser, and leave Firefox to us crotchety old men yelling at clouds that would rather not interact with the flagrant waste of resources that is generative AI.

I am seriously concerned about the upcoming use of AI in Mozilla Firefox. The only reason I use Firefox is because it is one of the few remaining widely compatible browsers that allow me to switch off any AI features. Generative AI is needlessly wasteful and absolutely pointless. Is there any way to prevent this from being forcibly added to Firefox?

If Firefox becomes an "AI browser" as it's new CEO says I will switch to another browser. The privacy and environmental problems alone are enough for me to warrant this change, to say nothing of how it's slowing the browser itself down and making it worse. I'm sick and tired of AI shoving itself into every single aspect of life, taking things that already worked fine on their own and making them worse for no reason, in addition to ruining the planet and encroaching more and more on the privacy of everyday folks like myself. Anthony Enzor-DeMeo's insistence that we should "trust" this hypothetical version of the browser is frankly sickening, and everyone involved in this scam should be ashamed.

I have strong ethical objections to the current generation of LLMs, and really strongly dislike contributing to Google's massive monopoly on most internet spaces, hence my using Firefox instead of Chrome. I was disheartened by the addition of an AI label to Firefox, and really would love to be able to continue using a good browser that doesn't shove AI slop down my throat. If the integration of LLMs to Firefox is going to continue, I wanted to ensure there will at least be some way to remove it from my browser

I recently heard about Mozilla's potential future plans to increase the browser's AI features, and wanted to voice my concerns about this.

I avoid using AI due to environmental, privacy, and ethical reasons, and one of my main motivations for choosing Firefox over another browser is specifically because of the option to turn AI features off. (And I believe this is the case for a large portion of the userbase.)

If Mozilla opts to push for more AI implementation within Firefox, I will switch to another browser.

To put it plainly, MANY MANY of your users Only use firefox because it hasn't actively destroyed itself with ai-integration. extreme issues with privacy and performance are Surely going to result, and even IF the browser continues to operate decently, you are STILL going to lose Many users out of spite and moral disagreement. So, I hope "Anthony" is proud to be the beginning of the end for this company, because if you don't revert course I simply do not have words for the slow corporate death the once-beloved browser will experience. You ARE the "no-ai, actually works" browser, and now you're throwing that away? Your ONLY advantage in a world utterly dominated by Chrome and chromium-based browsers? Do I need to explain the breadth of stupidity of that decision? My god, you guys. Withstand the ai bubble that will inevitably send us hurdling into recession, Resist, what's wrong with you? If this is about increasing shareholder value with the Magic Word "ai", im sure those same shareholders will be pleased to hear about your impending hemorrhaging userbase. Take it back.

the only reason ive been using firefox is because its one of the few browsers that doesnt use AI. now this? anthony enzor-demeo what in the hell is wrong with you? no one wants this, stop pushing AI in a browser we all use SPECIFICALLY to avoid other browsers' (like chrome) sell out. i dont care if there's opt out I don't want this to be an option in the first place, and I know a lot of others feel the same.

i am not the kind of person who has brand loyalty, and if you continue with this I'll find something else to use.

I hopped onto firefox the same way many others did- looking for a browser that didn't have the ties to privacy issues or baggage of bloatware, and especially since all of the other browsers are changing things to focus on AI. And now that firefox is joining that chain I wonder why I even bother trying to get attached.

Like, on the one hand I can somewhat see where the CEO is coming from, everyone's getting a cool new toy and you want in on that, that's understandable. But with something as half-baked, destructive, and actively contentious as AI, I wonder the true value of playing with things like that.

In fact, have you SEEN what's going on with AI? Microsoft's shoved Copilot into every aspect of windows 11, their PCs, their browser, their marketing, and what did they get? Regret! They regretted that decision as consumers aren't happy with that decision!

Even OpenAI, the granddaddy of all LLM stuff around, they're not even going to be profitable until 2030. Yes, that's 4 years away. No, I sincerely HOPE they don't last that long.

Why Mozilla is picking this decision? FOMO, I presume, but like. It doesn't have to be this way, it's allowed to be a small bastion where people can actually pick what I want out of it. I dislike the fact Perplexity got added to my search functions, but I'm happy that I could turn it off.

For the love of god Montresor, don't lock us in here.
