Hi,

I really like Firefox. You do a great job. But there is one thing I need a solution for. I like to turn on the feature "Delete cookies and site data when Firefox is closed". This works really well. But unfortunately it also deletes cookies in containers (Talking about the official Firefox Multi-Account Containers Extension). I know that you can add exceptions for certain websites. But these rules are applied to all containers which is what I don't want. So I wonder if there is already a solution for that or is at least in development. Thank you in advance!

P.S.: I'm using Firefox 96.0.3 on Linux and Windows

Hello, First let me thank Mozilla again for a great experience. I've been using Firefox as my main browser for many years and since some time I also started supporting Mozilla financially with whatever little I can with recurring payments. To the problem: since some time patch / commit view on HitHub with Firefox is broken. I guess many @mozilla have github accounts so you can open and read https://support.github.com/ticket/1318472 but to summarise: my first entry there was: ``` When viewing Linux kernel style Pull Requests on GitHub, using Firefox, TABs are displayed as 4 spaces, which is confusing, since the default is 8 spaces, which is also what is displayed in chrome and chromium. E.g. https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/pull/4747/commits/e9cc9312841a9329797b0b676335c8cb1a0dc779 ``` then a screenshot (attached) and a clarification to it: ``` As you can see there the patch area between lines 238 and 245 is wrongly indented by 4 spaces, whereas areas above and below are correctly indented by 8 spaces. ``` Then more: ``` No, space isn't used for indentation in that code. They can download raw code and verify, I'm sure they know how to do that. Why don't they just reproduce that themselves? Start Firefox, navigate to any PR commit like https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/pull/4884/commits/b19a64df2c2fcd63d7407ef500fd3312287c8995 and click arrows above and below the diff to display surrounding code. Then navigate to or download the raw patch https://github.com/thesofproject/sof/commit/b19a64df2c2fcd63d7407ef500fd3312287c8995.patch to see TABs used everywhere. Should be very easy to verify. ``` and their last reply was ``` From a technical standpoint this is not a regression. It's a problem with the way firefox interprets the combination of the tab-size css and the particular markdown we use for our diffs.

After reviewing the Issue in more detail there it has not been prioritized and will most likely not be addressed in the near future. ``` This is a deal-breaker for me. I spend hours daily reviewing GitHub pull requests. And I'd really not want to use a different browser just because of this... Please help! Thanks Guennadi

I am using Firefox 96.0 running on Ubuntu 20.04. The procedure described on this site to create a desktop shortcut for a website (click on padlock, drag it to the desktop and release) does not work. A grayed image of the URL being dragged moves onto the desktop when dragged, but when the mouse button is released that grayed image springs back to the URL field.

I also tried the alternate procedure i.e. drag a shortcut from the Bookmarks menu onto the desktop. The same failure sequence as described above occurred.

Thanks in advance for the help.

I am on site 1 (site1.net) in a video call. In the permissions pop-up of the FF browser it shows me that cross-site cookies are allowed for site 2 (yetanothersite.com). See the screenshot attached. Both sites are totally unrelated and have no link whatsoever. I visited site 2 once many months or a year ago. To my understanding it is very odd, that there is a permission for cross-site cookies from site 2 on site 1. This permission is not set on any other site. How could this permission have been set up, was it me, is this a bug? How come there is a permission for site 2 on site 1 while they have no interrelation? I have searched through the cookies.sqlite DB and found nothing irregular. The privacy / tracking settings are set to the "standard" choice. What am I missing here?

The system is Windows 11 with current FF 96.x.

Every time I tried to access my e-mail [or send e-mail], I received this Firefox error: "Server imap.earthlink.net has disconnected. The server may have gone down or there may be a network problem." I was able to send and receive small e-mails; but I was unable to receive somewhat larger messages, including information on how to join a very important Zoom meeting. After spending 90 minutes on the phone with Earthlink, I was finally able to access some [but not all] larger e-mails by going around Firefox and going to earthlink.webmail.com directly. But, the Earthlink tech support person was unable to detect what was wrong in Firefox. I was eventually able to join the end of the Zoom meeting. After the meeting, I then went back to Firefox and was able to get and send some messages, but I'm still getting the same error message - and I'm not sure what messages I'm missing. I sure hope someone can help!

Hello

So for the past couple of months I have had problems with my laptop keyboard. At random times I couldn't type anymore (also not outside of Firefox). To fix the problem I always reinstalled the keyboard drivers so I thought that my driver's were the issue. But this week it happened several times just after openingen the browser so I realised this was the problem. I opened Firefox in safe mode and I didn't have any problems with my keyboard, so I refreshed Firefox but the problem came back. I only use a few extensions that are recommended or made by Mozilla. I have been using an other browser for the last couple of days and haven't had any problems.

Thanks in advance

I have a new installation of Firefox on a new M1 MacBook Pro. I copied over carefully selected settings files from my old computer, and now several icons are missing from the drop-down search and address boxes. I attempted renaming several of my transferred files to see if Firefox would rebuild them and correct the problem without success. Reinstalling Firefox was likewise unsuccessful. Does anyone know how to restore them? Please see attached image. Thank you.

These types of answers are unacceptable as "Help", just sayin. "I'm wondering WHY you want to use magnet links for (besides the obvious reason of torrenting)."

The reason why someone would want to do something isn't of your concern, really. However, WHY someone would want to set a particular application of launching magnet links, without having to search on help forums to find something hidden in about:config is because not everyone wants to install a list of 3rd party programs to a Windows installation. Nor CAN everybody install such things. So what some people do is use "Portable Apps." When this is done, firefox isn't going to become aware that this type of program CAN be used on the Windows install in question, because it's not actually installed.

Why is there not an "Add" option for the "Applications" list in the settings panel? That makes no sense. Essentially what's been done here is that Firefox says "I'll only interface with programs that are fully installed on this machine, and to hell with your portable apps."

I realize that there is a growing trend of adding bumpers and safety pads to everything in the world, but people really can take care of themselves. I also realize that there has been this trend where FireFox devs have been taking what users actually like/want and ignoring it. Which is unfortunate.

I'm not actually going to come back here and read anything said back to me. I've already used the hidden method of fixing my problem. My reason for typing this is that I think there should be an ability to add app associations to that list.

network.protocol-handler.expose.magnet bool == true

"Updates disabled by some system administrator"/w more issues, being blocked by the same problem from accessing the internet using a NIC cable, am using Wireless. Have been working with this issue from about 0200 this morning 1/19/22. Used one feature, "about:config" but my problem still is there. The issue with 'Policies' is a little more than I can handle. My FFx v96.0.1, Linux Mint Cinnamon v19.3 at this time, best of my memory, @82 Y/Od; Attempted a ScreenShot and could not reduce the size. Just note: "Your browser is being managed by your organization." is displayed top of all pages in "Settings."

hello, lately i have problems with any kind of VR content with firefox. A-Painter doesnt work and i cant play any VR video

looking a bit around on the internet and trying to change VR related settings in about:config gives me 3 unsatisfying results (trying to play a VR video) : - either nothing happens, the video starts playing normaly in 2d mode and when i press the VR icon the videos pauses but doesnt switch to Vr mode - it starts steamVR for no reasons (which doing the same action didnt start steamvr before, instead the video would just play in VR) but then nothing more happens, juts steamvr is open but the video dont play - i get an error message saying i need a webVr compatible browser

i have tried tweaking nearly every VR releated setting in about:config to a point where i dont remember what all the original configs where but i cant simply reset my prefs.js file as this would mess up every other tweaks i have made in my config. trying to play the same video works just fine in MS edge

no hardware changes have been made to my pc and i didnt install any new addon to firefox. i hadnt used my VR headset for some weeks so i dont know exactly since which firefox update the issue started. Occulus software is up to date as my other drivers (i didnt update any driver lately neither) are actually up to date or the same as they where when everything worked. i have also tried with a fresh FF nightly install without succes (in nightly i didnt change anything in about:config)

How do I disable "recent bookmarks" when I go to the bookmarks.

Also How do I get bookmarks to appear as they did prior to the update. It used to be 1 button on the right side of the address bar would open a menu that had all of my bookmarks and book folders. Now theres an option button, where when I select "bookmarks" and then "bookmark current tabs", "search bookmarks", and "hide bookmarks toolbar" as well the dreaded "recent bookmarks" that show a random selection of among all of my bookmarks from random folders.

If I want a remembrance of how my bookmarks used to be, I have to make sure the menu bar is visible and select bookmarks from there.

This was the original thread <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1363425#answer-1471931>

In short, to summarize the original issue, one day after clearing my 'recent history' 100% once, gmail.com never ever became autofilled again. I can't get it to show up, no matter what.

I even refreshed firefox, still didn't help, sadly. The only thing left is to uninstall FF but that's a headache I don't want to do. and there's no guarantee that it would work.

Tried disabling all my extensions except for the most obviously fine ones like momentum. Didn't seem to help. <https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1176553> This guy had the EXACT same problem I had. So I followed through these suggestions. Didn't help.

1. Does anyone know what the right keywords for this would be if I want to google others who have similar issues? Looks like I can only just hope other people have the solution. But I've googled things like firefox not suggesting history in omnibox search. Hasn't come up with anything that worked yet.

What is going on? I spend a lot of time getting important Bookmarks for research, and etc. How can I get all of my Bookmarks back? Apparently, I cannot get them all back. See attached file.
