Firefox will not go to any URL typed into the location bar. Nor will it search for anything typed into the search bar. I have tried opening Firefox in Safe Mode, unchecking the compatibility options, clearing my recent history (the history icon doesn't even appear in the Firefox toolbar anymore), setting all Add-Ons to "Always activate," rebooting the computer, and uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox, and nothing so far has work. The uninstall function must not completely uninstall Firefox because it does not delete my bookmarks which are all still present. The first symptom of a problem was an error message and the first fix I tried was reinstalling Firefox without uninstalling first. Now the error message no longer appears and I do not remember what it was.

I have had firefox for a couple months now, and have never had a problem before. However, last night, my laptop overheated and when I started it once it cooled down, it did a system restore to an earlier date (which it didn't specify). Now when I try to open firefox it just crashes instantly. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling it, and it still does the same thing. Is there anything I can do? I can still use IE (oh great) and Google Chrome (better at least...) just fine, but firefox seems not to like me any more at all... Am I stuck with these other, inferior browsers forever or is there a fix? Please help me!

Has anyone else run into a problem with drop-downs after moving to ESR 52.2? We had no problems on the previous version 45.9. After the update to 52.2 the lists in our drop-downs are now double spaced. The same drop-down is also fine in Internet Explorer and Chrome. We believe this is also causing issues when doing Print to PDF on some other forms.

Can anyone point me to the firefox version 28 exe file fore windows?

I can find this link " https://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/ " but it lists a number for version 28s (28.0, .0b1/2/3.../9) and the sub-directories there are a mess of stuff that I have no idea where to go and what to get.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I updated to 29 and the GUI change is too much for me, so I installed a really old version of ff and am looking to update back to 28 until I feel like I want to adjust to 29.

Enter key or Paste+Go don't work in my Firefox address bar. I have searched, uninstalled, deleted Firefox folders and reloaded Firefox twice, turned off my add-ons, created a new profile, ran in Firefox safe mode, refreshed Firefox, scanned for malware using multiple tools and found no malware, deleted all matter of search bars, etc. Nothing resolves the address bar non-functionality.

No, I can't type "about:config" in the address bar and press enter to forward a file.

My wife says she loaded a Java update that didn't work as intended. Wonderful. I unloaded all things Java and still no good.

Thankfully, my homepage is set to Google and I can search in Google and click the links to navigate.

I appreciate any help that you can provide. Thanks.

I have uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. However when I type in a web address it won't come up {ex -gmail.com}. I know it is not my interenet since the page will open fine in IE. This is the message I get when I try to open a page : Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at accounts.google.com.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
   moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network

If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure

Bookmarks sync problems: Bookmarks keep rearranging themselves in the bookmarks toolbar, and do not sync completely on Windows and Android.

My setup

I'm using Firefox 47.0 on Fedora (64-bit GNU/Linux) with GNOME shell, and on Windows 10 (64-bit). I also have Firefox Sync on an Android tablet, but I don't do as much web browsing on my tablet, so I haven't needed to look at the bookmarks there...

The problem(s)

On Fedora, the bookmarks in the Firefox bookmarks toolbar rearrange themselves. The bookmarks in one folder shift from the bottom to the top, and some bookmarks in the toolbar shift from left to right. I arrange my bookmarks by loose priority, so this annoying. Whenever I notice the bookmarks being out of order, I drag them back to where they were, but they always move themselves again later. This has been an ongoing issue for a couple months; I've only seriously attempted to troubleshoot the issue over the past week or so, and I'm not having any luck.

I don't think I've ever noticed the bookmarks moving themselves in the middle of a session, so I believe it's actually happening when I close or launch Firefox. However, reproducing this issue has been tricky, since the bookmarks do not *always* shuffle themselves every time I launch Firefox. Depending on how often I open/close the application, I may notice the bookmarks moving themselves once every other day, or a couple times in a single day.

This may be a separate issue, but I noticed it around the same time: On Windows 10, my bookmarks do not sync at all. There three or four bookmarks in the toolbar, but these do not get updated when I change them on my Linux machine, and none of the other bookmarks have synced to the Windows machine.

Things that I've already tried

I've tried reverting my bookmarks to a recent automatic backup (Library > Import and Backup > Restore). No change.

I've tried disabling all addons. No change.

I tried refreshing Firefox, to "reset to factory defaults". No change.

I tried deleting the file `xulstore.json` in my Firefox profile. No change.

I tried installing and running the Places Maintenance extension. I didn't entirely understand all the text output it generated while running, but I don't think it found any real errors. Anyway, no change.

I tried backing up my exports to a JSON file, then closing Firefox, then deleting the places.sqlite file, then restarting Firefox, and importing the bookmarks JSON file. No change.

Bookmarks still rearrange themselves on Linux and do not sync at all on Windows  :(

Why are so many plugins "Unknown" by Firefox? And why was the last discussion on this closed? Why is there NO INFORMATION about "unknown plugins"?

On my list of plug-ins, half of them have the status of "unkown," with a box that says "Research?" I have no idea what this means, and it makes no sense to me that the topic of "Unknown Plugins" is not addressed ANYWHERE in the Firefox help pages. I read through all the "help" pages I could find about Plugins, and none of these pages even mentioned Unknown Plugins. Even doing a search for "unknown plugins" brought up nothing except one discussion on this topic -- which never received an answer, and which has been "closed."

This is odd because unknown plugins are obviously a major issue: HALF of my plugins are "unknown" and these are not from rare or minor companies. I don't have my entire list handy but my "unknown plugins" are from such sources as Google ("google update"), RealPlayer, iTunes, Amazon-mP3, Windows Live (photo gallery), and Picassa.

The whole reason I ended up grappling with plugins was in my quest to get rid of the annoying ads that creep up from the bottom right of my screen, and end up getting in the way of the page I'm viewing. I can't get rid of these things no matter how hard I try. There is no "x" in the corner, no option to remove or block frame when I right click on the ads, etc.

I have no idea if unknown plugins could play a role in these insidious ads, but there needs to be more explanation from Firefox on why so many plugins are unknown, and what exactly that means; how can "unknown plugins" possibly affect us?

Hello all, For reasons of privacy, I want to be able to change the OS identifier in the user-agent string that is sent with every http request. I remember with older versions of firefox this could be accomplished in about:config and changing the useragent string, but this doesn't seem to be an option with newer versions. I have tried on both firefox for FreeBSD and Windows 8.1, to no avail.

If it is assigned at build time, could you please direct me to the area of code where this is handled so I can fork the code, change it locally, and build it for personal use?

This is the string I am trying to change: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; FreeBSD amd64; rv:53.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/53.0

I suspect it may be stored in one of the files in the ~/.mozilla directory, and while I wait for a response, I will be picking through there.

Thanks in advance,

Just installed Adblock Plus on both IE8 and Firefox 37 – got successful messages on both. Checked on IE8, ABP is working great. Went onto Firefox and its not working.

Went to Windows add/remove programs… found the IE version BUT the Firefox version is not present. Went back and tried to install Adblock Plus again and got the following message:

“Adblock Plus could not be installed because Firefox could not modify the needed file”

WHAT IS THE PROBLEM?

WHAT CAN I DO TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM?

PS: I fully removed Firefox 36 with Revo and reinstalled version 37 – same problem.
