I just updated firefox and was bookmarking a page but when I opened the bookmarks menu to check that it was there and delete the old version of the page the new bookmark was not present. On closer inspection I noticed it saved it to "other bookmarks" instead. How do I change the default save location back to the bookmark menu because as often as I update my bookmarks with newer pages having to manually select the bookmark menu is gonna get old really fast.

I'd like to first state that although the bookmarks are not showing up, the bookmarks bar is.

I don't know what has caused this but somehow, FF has stopped showing the bookmarks in the bookmarks bar. I also cannot drag and drop a link onto the bar either. When I try that, I get a circle with a slash through it.

I've tried a few things, including:

1. Installing Places Maintenance 2.0.3 add on and attempting a fix. 2. Backing up my bookmarks and deleting the places.sqlite file as stated here:

   http://kb.mozillazine.org/Bookmarks_history_and_toolbar_buttons_not_working_-_Firefox

Neither helped and has not allowed me to view old bookmarks or drag new bookmarks onto it.

NOTE that the bookmarks are still there. I can see them when I click on the bookmarks icon and show the Bookmarks Toolbar. Now that I think about it. They shouldn't be there should they? Shouldn't the bookmarks be wiped out? I didn't import them yet. The only thing that did change is that their icons disappeared when viewing them from the bookmarks menu.

This happened on my father's machine a few days ago according to him. I don't see any recent releases, so I'm not sure what it could be. Is it possible that he accidentally activated/deactivated something? He is almost blind and sometimes doesn't notice when he clicks on things.

I read the other posts about Ubuntu 12.04 Unity no longer supporting toolbars and the workaround for what it does to the Firefox toolbar (go to bookmarks configuration, hover and search for the URL you want) but I am sure anyone would agree four clicks, a hover and a search is less useful than a single click ?

So is there any support for single click (or double-click) access to the four URLs I always use in Firefox? I am thinking the only way is four shell scripts on the desktop each starting Firefox with a different URL, but is there a better way? Alternatively, can anyone recommend a better Linux distribution that properly supports Firefox?

Thanks in advance, Mike

I want to work offline sometimes, and to easily access some of my bookmarks to offline manuals and such. Right now I only know how to open a FF browser, then select "work offline", then select the bookmark. But I'd rather make it easier by having a folder (eg."offline bookmarks") pasted into my PC's startup menu. How can I do this? I have Windows XP Pro. FF version 24. Thanks!

My gf inadvertently deleted all of my Firefox history. Long ago I had asked her not to ever delete my Internet history, because I use that stuff for my writing and editing work, but I take that she did it today by accident, because she usually does not do this on my computer - she does do it on her computer, regularly.

I'd like to get this stuff [info] back.

Someone told me to look for the places.sqllite files - I found those, fortunately, and I copied them to a different subdir as well, for safekeeping.

But I have not yet figured out how to load this profile info back in to ff.

This is not a question, but simply how to resolve this issue. There are many people who appear to have this issue, yet it remains unresolved in many of the threads/posts (especially those that appear on search). Many have utilized add-ons to address this, but many of these proposed solutions aren't compatible with the current versions of Firefox.

Solution: 1. Bring up Firefox's Advanced settings/config page by typing the following into your url bar: about:config 2. Search 'bookmarks' (or 'browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs' if you only want the exact preference name) 3. Locate 'browser.tabs.loadBookmarksInTabs' and double click it to change the value from false to true.

Btw, Mozilla.. your workflow makes it rather difficult to create a support account (I understand you don't want everyone and anyone to just create accounts, but if your TSEs aren't answering questions, it'd be nice if you allowed others within the community to help). Also, purely just a suggestion, but your nomenclature/terminology on the Support page would be nice if it also referenced 'Mozilla Support account' rather than 'Mozilla account,' emphasizing that the user does not have an associated Support account, unless created.

Cheers!

The latest version has been loaded onto my PC. The list of bookmarks, in the drop down menu, has increased in the spacing between the lines. Now my bookmarks list goes off the bottom of the screen, whereas before my bookmarks were all visible. Is there a simple way of reducing the gap between the lines, the font size is OK.

After I reset my computer to it's factory settings and loaded up Mozilla Firefox I realized that all of my bookmarks were gone. What can I do to recover them? How can I get them back easily? Is there a trick? A program to use?

This question was asked .. And SOLVED for the person asking it .. but, not in a way that was understandable to me. So, I'm just asking for some details which could be followed as a tutorial.

This was the final comment from rjf380 on 9/19/17:

"So, between these posts, and a visit to Apple's Genius Bar, I found a solution. (1) Access the Firefox profile folder as described above and click to have it open in Finder. (2) Close Firefox application. (3) While having the Firefox profile folder open in Finder, open Time Machine from the menu bar at the top of the Mac screen. (4) The Finder folder will then be displayed for all previous updates. Select the most recent update (or the update that would contain your browsing history), select the profile folder, and then click restore. (5) Exit Time Machine.

My Firefox browsing history is fully restored."

This is good to know .. there is hope, for I have the same problem.. I had to delete Firefox after using it from the beginning .. For some reason the selection of my preferred search engine (Google) always came up with "Yahoo" .. no matter how I configured preferences .. I assumed there was a Yahoo virus in the system.. :-) .. so, I deleted Firefox .. then realized I had 20 years of bookmarks I really didn't want to delete. I've donated to Firefox several times and my wife has a $5/month auto donation that's still active... So, I'm determined to restore it .. with a working Google search engine and prior Bookmarks & History.

From rjf380's pionts for solution:

1) Which Firefox "Profile folder" ? ... places.sqlite or about:profiles  ?? (I don't see how to make a word in BOLD text)

Also .. nothing was said about Bookmarks .. or the bookmarks bar ...

Thanks much for more specifics.. Regards, michael

After recently having a problem reinstalling my old bookmarks, I'm now wondering if there is a easy way to backup my very recent bookmarks, when I enter my bookmarks from the menu tab? I don't see a link within the bookmarks tab to do so. It would be nice to see a specific link within the bookmarks tab to do such a function. Does anyone have any solutions, or know a way to quickly backup my bookmarks? Thank you.

Before installing windows 10 I forgot to save a list of the bookmarks I had on Firefox. The computer however saved a copy of all important program files in a folder called Windows.old on my C: disk. Is there any chance to retrieve the bookmarks from that folder? I tried to look at the files saved therein, but unfortunately I could not recognize anything useful. Disclaimer: I am definitely not very knowledgeable in IT! ;)

W7 - 64bit. After last update FF 18 was restarting FF only possible with restart of pc. Therefore I ran uninstall and re installed FF hoping this would resolve the problem. All bookmarks and history was probably lost with uninstall. None of the support and help sites suggestions could resolve it. I found a place.sqlite file of 10 MB in an old profiles backup but no json file. Would like to recover at least the bookmarks. Is it possible in this situation?

I want to create a link to a Google (spread)sheet that I can have on my toolbar. I access this spreadsheet frequently and just want to link to the page. When I right click on the page, nothing happens. I know I've done it before, although I'm not sure how. I have a workaround but it's tedious and this is something that isn't unusual for me as the common spreadsheet I use changes.

Any ideas?

then i clicked on the bookmarks.html file ...it displayed in the textbox. ......but then it stated "no items" in the grey area below where it states "Names Tags Location"

I use Firefox on the following devices:

- work pc Widnows 10 (primary device) - iPhone iOS 13 - work laptop Windows 10 - home macbook

bookmarks and other things are set to sync across all devices. however, most times, when i open a device other than my primary pc bookmarks get sync in a very wrong an annoying way: basically they are multiplied several times and spread all over out of their folders n random order. many are duplicated, but is not just the full set of them duplicated, is more a random thing, some will be tri or quadruplicated, including the folders duplicated folders will not have all the same bookmarks inside but a random selection of them. this happens most times i open my iPhone or laptops and each them will have to restore them from my primary pc.

I have once, weeks ago, tired to create a backup file, and then delete all bookmarks from all devices i have then waited a couple of days so to make sure they would all sync with no bookmarks, then i restored the original backup set of bookmarks it worked OK for few days and then started again as before. it is very annoying and if anyone has a suggestion would be much appreciated

thank you
