Sorry if this has been said, i haven't been able to find it using the words i know. First of all, i'm newbie in general so if anything is missing in the explanation just let me know. My computer uses Linux ( Ubuntu 17.10).

The problems are several and are connected, i believe. Some years ago, when updating the firefox browser throught the "official app store", the name of which i only know in catalan, "programari" and haven't been able to find the analogous name right now. The update was actually an installation of firefox quantum that duplicated my Firefox browsers ( at least in icons, i had both ) as i now had the updated one and the old one, which i simply stopped using. Several problems arose in using this format , for example when i try to open from terminal Jupyter lab i needed to have already open the quantum version, otherwise it would simply open it in the old browser and that was a problem for other things not interesting here maybe. There came a moment where this new so called quantum browser stopped working, i.e. it crashed in completly white screen, while not being able to close it, and, furthermore, without being able to uninstall it, again from this app store, as everytime i tried it the app store window would just show me that it was working ( i pressed uninstall and the "cercle around" dynamic icon showed), but no matter the time i left it to finish it never did/does. Now i'm trying to, again, update the OLD firefox browser i had because it is so old ( version 61 ) that many webs can't even be used ( Netflix for example). HOWEVER, i have to say that any of the official helps to download/update firefox has been of no use for the moment. That is, the "update firefox to latest release"( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/update-firefox-latest-release) page assumes that the update will take place by just going to << Help->About firefox>>, but it doesn't; and the alternative method, using "Choose which Firefox Browser to download in your language" page ( https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release) downloads me a compressed file ( in concrete firefox-88.0.tar.bz2). What is the problem with this? i haven't found a single word saying what to do after this download... i'm a newbie i only see a whole bunch of archives and files within but i don't have the Icon to press( yes, there is the firefox executable program that if you press appears the browser, but how can i place, and use, this outside the file( when i move it outside it stops working)) and so be able to use access the browser without having to go all into the downloaded file?

I know this is extremely long and i apologize for it. Here in the following i'll simply summarize the questions mentioned in hope that someone has any answer: 1) Why Firefox quantum, installed from the official app store in Linux ( it is/was the only Firefox appearing there as if it was the older version), didn't update the last version i previously had and made instead a duplicated, conflicting sometimes with the older ( Jupyter lab problem mentioned ), version. 2) Why has this Quantum browser suddenly crashed in my computer and why i can't even un-install it. 3) What is to be done with the update-downloading compressed file ( coming from https://www.mozilla.org/en-GB/firefox/all/#product-desktop-release ) as to end up with the nice-looking, usually found, firefox browser icon in the screen, instead of having to go inside the file to use it.

Many thanks to anyone being able to help this troubled-guy in his proces of not going back to google chrome and windows.

Have a strange delay that has happened a number of times that causes a delay of about 2 minutes and 40 seconds for Firefox to open on my fully updated Fedora 33 64bit system? Using strace it pauses at these to times.

ppoll([{fd=10, events=POLLIN}], 1, {tv_sec=119, tv_nsec=999420000}, NULL, 8) = 1 ([{fd=10, revents=POLLIN}], left {tv_sec=46, tv_nsec=773625894}) ppoll([{fd=14, events=POLLIN}], 1, {tv_sec=119, tv_nsec=999274000}, NULL, 8) = 1 ([{fd=14, revents=POLLIN}], left {tv_sec=113, tv_nsec=850834948})

When it doesn't happen there are no lines with the ppoll information in the strace. At same time, google chrome will load in seconds, just like firefox when it is working correctly.

First time it happened was after an upgrade to latest kernel, so thought that might have been it. Rebooted system to previous kernel, but problem still occurred. Downgraded firefox to previous version, but that also resulted in no change. Checked the rpm listing, and found that nss i686 had also been updated in last pass, so did a reinstall of the nss*x86_64 files. Problem disappeared, and firefox was back to loading in seconds versus the 2 minutes and 40 seconds. (Does seem to work ok once loaded). Reloaded with latest kernel, an it still worked. Upgraded to latest firefox again, and still worked. Ran fine for a full day, but then it started doing the same. Tried the nss reinstall, but no change. Rebooted machine, no other changes, and it went back to working??

Have the strace dump file that is about 4M - line numbers that issue happens. 2687 ppoll([{fd=10, events=POLLIN}], 1, {tv_sec=119, tv_nsec=999420000}, NULL, 8) = 1 ([{fd=10, revents=POLLIN}], left {tv_sec=46, tv_nsec=773625894})

 4422	ppoll([{fd=14, events=POLLIN}], 1, {tv_sec=119, tv_nsec=999274000}, NULL, 8) = 1 ([{fd=14, revents=POLLIN}], left {tv_sec=113, tv_nsec=850834948})

Total of 57123 lines firefox.bad

A run without the errors is about 50866 lines long and has no ppoll lines??

Only seen error with firefox, so not sure if it is related to firefox or firefox with something else in system??

I use Firefox on Ubuntu 21.04 LTS and recently started facing delay of 3-4 seconds while trying to open any add-ons in top bar or even when trying to navigate application menu. I recently moved from windows to Ubuntu, no such lag or delay was there in windows.

What I tried- I tried to troubleshoot this problem with the help of troubleshooter present in Firefox and used the 'Refresh Firefox' option but still it was lagging too much. I also tried to remove all add-ons but still it was of no use. My system is fast enough to handle Firefox.

My Mozilla occasionally crashes on various websites but this is rarely a big deal and is usually restored without further problem. However, when trying to access my online banking (Co-operative and Smile) it crashes repeatedly after a few seconds, making these sites unusable. Anyone got any ideas why this specific site is a problem and how to overcome it?

My cookie cache is erased every time firefox closes and I only have Ecosia as an Add on. My security setting was strict but I changed it to standard. This had no effect. I'm not very familiar with Linux so a simple explanation would be appreciated!

Thanks in advance

P.S; The crash reports fail to submit. I don't know if this is related.

Introduction So I learned the hard way to never run sudo apt remove python3 on an ubuntu system. I'm running Linuxlite (Ubuntu 20.04.2 LTS) on a dell desktop (unsure of the model).

The Problem After looking at some guides and upgrading the operating system, I managed to get most of the fonts to display correctly. Sites with certain kinds of text still appear to be "too bold" (see images).

""What I've tried"" The command actually removed Mozilla, so I had to reinstall it. Updating it also didn't fix the problem. I have messed around with the font settings and nothing changed. It seems that only Mozilla is doing this because the Brave browser displays the fonts correctly. Other than that, I haven't really done all that much. Also the font as I write this is normal.

Thanks for your consideration!

Well, slow loading site is not a new question. But my problem is that I can't search on google from the URL bar when I press ctrl + l. I actually search on google, but it loads very slow. But if I again open a new tab and go to google.com, while the search is loading in the previous tab, it instantly loads google on both of the tabs. So when I search something on the URL bar, I have to also open another tab and type google.com, or straight just go to google.com and search for something.

I have already tried clearing the cache. I am straight up using Google's primary (1), secondary (2), and cloudflare's primary (3) DNS. I don't face the issue with Chromium for example, and also linux commands like dig google.com and drill google.com are instantaneous.

I previously used dnsmasq and same issue, I disabled it, and the issue still persists. It's annoying. I have no trouble loading sites like duckduckgo.

I am on Archlinux, but I am using the official firefox build coming from mozilla.org. The current firefox version is 88.0b3 (64-bit) (autoupdates disabled through policies.json).

Hi, I have a ubuntu 20.04 machine, that I just installed. The installation came with firefox on it, no extensions.

When I open my browser, it's normal to start with, but then after a little bit, I need to click tabs twice for me to go to the page. It then sometimes go away for a few minutes, and then comes back.

Sometimes, it's just my mouse that triggers this behavior, but other times, it is both mouse and touchpad. This is not a problem that occurs when using other browsers or programs on my computer.

If I start firefox in safe mode, it's back to normal for a few minutes, but then the issue starts again.

Also, if I click "settings" in the top right, it quickly appears and disappears, making it really hard to access the settings

First off, I tried to submit this using the "Submit Feedback" feature of the browser, but it's disabled right now, so I can't. Hopefully this works, or someone can tell me another way to request a feature from the developers.

I also know that I can use the Master Password feature to protect my passwords, but that's too extreme for my liking. I'm looking for a middle ground, where I don't have to enter my master password every time I want to use the browser, but I do want to enter it as a requirement for viewing my passwords in plain text.

Master password also seems to be blocking automatic log in on a lot of websites, so it is doubly annoying. :)

I've seen other people mention they would like this as well, so I think it would be a good thing to implement, which really wouldn't be too difficult to do.

When picture-in-picture is invoked, it opens video small window. In the past it was a super tiny window, then after some updates it increased in size, then it went small again. The proportions of the window are also useless for most YT vids.

Basically, every time I use picture-in-picture I have to resize it. This is tirin. Is there a way to customize the start size of it like:

- set start size ...x... - remember the last size - auto-size based on the video proportions, set to 1/4 or 1/5 or 1/3, etc.

and so on.

Currently this picture in picture is more annoying then helpful because it require constant manipulation of the picture size. Annoying as hell.

Hi,

I'm using Firefox over various devices and systems.

For instance: - Firefox binary downloaded from Mozilla website and executed over Debian Testing - Firefox from Arch Linux official repositories in Arch systems

My doubt is: could this cause any problem with the Sync function? Or Sync has the flexibility to allow syncing between a wide specter of Firefox installations

For instance: Could I add Fennec from F-Droid to my LineageOS smartphone or Firefox-ESR from Debian repositories to my desktop machine, log in with my account in all of them and synchronize all the sessions without problems?

Thanks a lot in advance!, and let me know if I should add any technical information.

Kind regards!

I'm using Firefox 88.0-2 installed on Debian 10 using snap.

When i try to upload any file it just doesn't show the file selection window. When i try to download any file it shows the window where it asks what you want to do with this file but doesn't download it when i select the save option. I tried changing the download location, clearing the download history, clearing the settings of firefox handles different types of files and also resetting firefox.

Also firefox creates a folder 'firefox.tmp' in downloads folder on my machine. Even if delete it, it gets created again when i start firefox.

Anyone else facing this issue or any idea how to tackle it ?

Hi.

Often, "HTTPS Everywhere" blocks links to sites because the real URL is embedded in another (probably tracking) URL, and that URL points to a site that doesn't support HTTPS.

I have both ClearURLs and "HTTPS Everywhere" installed, and I hypothesize that if "ClearURLs" could remove strip the surrounding tracking URL from the embedded real URL, most real sites would work without complaint.

Can I somehow tell Firefox to apply "ClearURLs" before "HTTPS Everywhere", so that "HTTPS Everywhere" operates on the sanitized real address? (Or am I interpreting the situation wrongly?)

Thanks for your help.

Warmly, Pete

I have three FF profiles on my Linux Mint 19.3 system (work, not-work and one for e-tail). Somehow the problem only appeared after I added that last one. All profiles have the same syntax; I checked the files. Neither one is set to be the dominant one. Typically, I don't use more than one at a time.

I also use Claws mail. Whenever I get any mail with a link I want to check out, I just used to click on that link and it opened in a new tab in the FF browser profile that was currently open. Similarly, whenever I wanted to see the HTML version of a mail, I right-clicked on the html-icon and chose open. Again, it picked the open browser.

Now, though, whenever I pick either one of those options above, I get the "Choose User Profile" box. If I pick the profile that is currently open, I get an error telling me that it's already running.

Since I mostly read email when I use the no-work FF profile, I tried to add "firefox -P NotWork -no-remote --class NotWorkProfile" but that also resulted in the choose user profile box to open.

My current work-around is to copy the link and open it in a new tab, or pull the whole mail into the tab to see the HTML version. Quite annoying.

Is there any way to get it to ignore all other profiles but the currently open one? Thank you for anyone who has an idea. Let me know if there's anything else I may add to explain the situation.

[My apologies if this isn't the right forum; I'm also attempting to ask this question in the Linux Mint and Claws forums, if those exist.]
