When typing comments on a web blog, after the spacebar is used, the first letter of the next word eliminates the previously typed space. So what I end up with is all words in a sentence running together. Tried other browsers and they work fine. Changed keyboard as well no joy. Typing is normal in applications like adobe, word, etc..... Only happens during Firefox use......... Uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox, also no help..... How do I fix ?

Hello,

When I close Firefox after the last update (current installed version: 112.0 x64 Windows 10), Firefox creates almost 200 processes (in the latest case 177), each using from 17 MB to 65 MB RAM (except one that is using over 200 MB - I guess the main one) using 100% CPU for about half a minute, and in that my PC is unusable - everything hangs. It takes a bit more time to close all of them.

Any ideas what could be wrong and how to fix it?

Thank you.

Hey folks,

i am facing issue with high CPU usage on firefox in completely different process other as visible in task manager than my actual process for firefox. is there something wrong with firefox or my system.

This separate process uses more than 60% of my CPU (AMD Ryzen 5 4600). If I close that process in the task manager nothing happens to my current firefox process and i can use firefox normally.

But everytime this separate process starts my system fans ramp up and CPU temps peaks to 70 degrees celsius. and i have to end that process to make it run normally. Thats a quite annoying process to do every time.

I am able to recreate this separate process by:

  1. 1. Plug my system for charging
  2. 2. I was working offline and connect to internet

both the times the separate process automatically starts and uses very high amount of CPU. I even left my system for 2 hours to keep that process running and complete whatever it was doing. but nothing happend. It continued to run for 2 hours also.

Please find a solution for this. I have already tried solutions provided in the forum:

  • Restarting firefox
  • Refreshing Firefox
  • Enabling hardware accleration
  • Clearing some user profile data
  • Completely uninstalling firefox and deleting the residual files then reinstalling etc.

but nothing worked.

YouTube videos on Firefox getting slower and jerky. After refreshing Firefox (Settings -> Help -> More troubleshooting information -> Refresh Firefox), it is OK, but only for a short while. Then the problem starts again. Same YouTube videos are running fine with Chrome at the same time.

Running Windows 11 Pro (Clean windows setup not long ago and the issue was there from the beginning.) German Language Firefox 116.0.2 Build ID 20230805021307 Intel CPU i7-1360P, 16 GB RAM, 1TB M.2 SSD

Would really appreciate a solution for the issue because I really like Firefox!

Hello,

I've spent several hours today trying to fix FireFox slow start up on my system. After start up (about 2 full minutes), everything works normally. The hardware is an ASUS A88xm-A MB, A10-6800K processor, 16G DDR3, runs OS and programs off an SSD. I worked through all the slow startup suggestions, ran memtest (0 Errors, 1 Pass), disabled all add ons, (even the OpenH264 video codec (I use the onboard HDMI, no graphics card)), turned off hardware acceleration, etc. When starting in troubleshoot mode, less than 30 seconds, (acceptable), but I really don't know where to begin with the "More Troubleshooting Information" when I look at the table generated by it. There have been no other problems to date with the system, and the long start-up time began with 20.04 Ubuntu (about a minute), then got worse when I upgraded to 22.04 to try to solve THAT problem. Currently running FF 104.0, and the update page says wait for a distro update if that is how it was installed. I believe 104.0 is the latest Linux 64b version though. All updates to the system are done as soon as I'm notified of them. there have been none since the upgrade a few days ago.

Any suggestions? Gotta get some sleep now... TIA, Dave

Hail:

System Software: Win11Ent_x64 v22H2 (b: 22621.2283) MFF v18.5.0.0

No matter what I try, my MFF keeps crashing at startup. For some reason, it tries to open 2 pages the windows at the same time, which is illogical. I deleted firstly my: sessionstore.jsonlz4 logins.json to no avail.

Then I tried to open MFF through elevated CMD with the command: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe -safe-mode Again, 2 windows pop crashing immediately.

I do not understand why all of the sudden, it tries to open 2 different instances at once. This makes no sense. I am out of ideas, having tried many an option found on Google, but which none give me a solution.

If anyone has an idea, I would be quite darn thankful. This MSEdge crap that I need to use now is not quite my thing.

Thank you. Ke'Ylan

I'm running 96.0.3 on a fully patched Win 10 Pro system - both O/S and programs. When Firefox is running I'm getting these pop-up error messages randomly with changing content. They stay on screen for some seconds and then go away. Message states it's from (via) 5.back2yard.biz. I put that in my hosts file and I'm still getting them. My network is a cable modem hooked to Xfinity and then cable connected to another fully newer patched router. All addresses are 10. range. I ran both a Malwarebytes scan and a Windows Security scan - both are clean.

I'm unable to upload a small image after a hour so I'll give up on that right now.

  • I start Firefox. It works fine for a time
  • Then, out of the blue, it says I have no Internet connection
  • But, every other browser works just fine
  • If I restart Firefox, it again works just fine, until it doesn't, again
  • It just started doing this a few days ago
  • I know everyone says this, but I didn't change anything other than the automatic update Firefox performed

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks.

I wondered several times why firefox recovers old tabs when it chrashed. now i see that in my profile folder/sessionstore-backups the file recovery.jsonlz4 is some days old (while i was using firefox in the meantime very often) and does not update frequently as requested by about:config browser.sessionstore.interval = 15000 (15s). - this folder or the files are not locked. i can delete/rename them, they are not re-created - there is no file sessionstore.* in the main folder of firefox profile while running firefox - i am using 102.4.0esr (32-Bit) on a company PC (could there be any restrictions?) - the file previous.jsonlz4 seems to be created correctly when firefox is closed normal (which is not my usecase, i want to restore up to date tabs after crashes) - i am not using a private window

do you have any idea?

why is FireFox 95 opening multiple windows on startup with Windows 10, Roboform, & Norton 360? FireFox is set to open a new tab, not new windows, so I do not know why it is doing this? I see lots of people asking this question, but there is no guidance online. What is up? This is causing FireFox to use way too much resources, and slows the computer.

Upgraded to version 101.0 after getting the pop-up prompt and now every site I visit is taking at least twice as long to load and display compared to yesterday. (Even this support site!)

It has to be something in this release and not my connection, because:

  • My mail client is completely unaffected and is behaving normally.
  • I tried accessing the sites that were loading/displaying slowest using Opera, and they loaded as fast as they had in Firefox previously.
  • Nothing else that uses my internet connection is working any differently than yesterday.

I also cleared the Firefox cache. No improvement.

It's not my add-ons because the only one I have installed is uBlock, which is recommended in various help articles here at the support site.

Nothing in the knowledge base has proven helpful.

Is anyone else having this problem? Is there some tweak I need to make in about:config to fix this? Or is this another case of "wait until the next release", yet again???

When downloading files, Firefox no longer remembers the directory path the file was previously saved to on a per-URL basis.

Previous Firefox behavior: #1. download file from website "aaaa.com" to a folder on your computer, "user/frank/companies/aaaa/". #2. download file from website "bbbb.com" to a folder on your computer, "user/frank/companies/bbbb/". #3. Now, go back to the website "aaaa.com" and attempt to download another file. Firefox used to present the previously used directory for this particular URL, in this case, "user/frank/companies/aaaa/" - but instead, now it presents the most recently used directory path, which was "user/frank/companies/bbbb/".

This issue has appeared before and the advice to fix it was to go about:config, search for browser.download.lastDir.savePerSite and make sure it is set at TRUE. I have done this, but the issue remains: Firefox no longer remembers saved file directory paths on a per-URL basis.

MacOS 11.6.6 (Big Sur); Latest Firefox (103.0.2) Attempts to fix: Safe Mode - issue still present; Refresh Firefox - issue still present

Is there any advice on how to fix this problem? - Thxs.

Hi everyone,

lately I started experiencing a font-family-related issue. On certain websites the font-families/styles look broken. I tried troubleshooting the issue by myself without any luck. What I did so far was reset my Windows fonts to default, reinstall Firefox and look what font-families are loaded through the Inspect tool. If I opened the same web page in Chrome the font looks OK. Two websites the issue is most visible at - support.fiverr.com and gmail.com when someone replies to my e-mail.

Please find below a screenshot of what I mean

For the past two weeks, I've noticed that embedded maps make my browser immediately crash. I initially thought it was a Firefox problem, but I have been having a similar issue with Safari. This does NOT happen on my iPhone using the same two browsers. This also does not seem to effect Google Maps or embedded Google Maps, but embedded maps from other services. Anyway, I'm posting here because Firefox conveniently provides crash data, I'm not sure what else the cause could be and I'm hoping someone can help.

Two websites this has been consistently happening with are The Empire State Trail bike path (https://empiretrail.ny.gov/) and a NYC vaccine finder website (https://vaccinefinder.nyc.gov/). Firefox immediately crashes, though with the EST website it seems to be tied to the pathway of the trail being drawn (crashing after I've zoomed in a few times and the path has to regenerate). Safari doesn't totally crash, but forces a site reload and after it fails a second time says it can't display the site.

Any ideas what the issue could be? I'm on the latest version of Catalina (10.15.7), Firefox and Safari and seem to have all security updates for all.

Here's a link to the latest crash data: https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/1389c870-51cf-4790-b0a0-fd01f0211202

I love how the new tab page clearly states "Never fear losing a closed tab again.", and then when a window disappears it is followed by zero history to recover it. I have not restarted Firefox, let alone my computer since the last time the window was seen (about half an hour ago). It's not in my Alt+Tab tray hiding. I don't even remember closing the tab--though it's possible my keyboard double pressed when I was closing another window. (It's old and has a tendency to double hit keys). But now I have lost a window with at least 20 tabs open--mostly things i had yet to deal with and don't remember the URL to get back to it.

What use is my history and ability to reopen accidentally closed windows if everything just disappears from it within half an hour after the window could've been closed?

I would prefer to keep most of my browsing on Firefox, but I can't constitute that if I'm going to lose months worth of saved tabs randomly.

Recently I upgraded my Windows 10 to Windows 11 and since doing so, I've had consistent errors while browsing the web on Firefox. Most notably the "Humm. We're having trouble finding that site." error message.

For example, when visiting, say Verizon.com, the tab will display the aforementioned error to which I press Try Again and the website loads correctly every-time. No hiccups on the refresh.

I've tried the following:

  1. I've performed a completely clean uninstall of Firefox and then reinstall
  2. Cleared all browser history/cache
  3. Removed all extensions
  4. Disabled IPv6, HTTPS Over DNS, No Proxy
  5. Ran through Firefox's troubleshooting
  6. Used Firefox Troubleshooting Mode in the Browser
  7. Tested that the problem does not happen while using Edge

I've never had a single problem on Windows 10 with Firefox. Curious if others are experiencing the same issues and if there are any fixes. Nothing else on the PC has changed.
