I upgraded to FF 36.0.4 and was unable to access pages I had before. I installed Flash 17.0.0.134, Quicktime 7.7.6, and latest Shockwave and still unable to view National Weather Service animated radar images. FF says I need plug in but not which one. Flash home page gives same msg where it should tell you which version you have.

When Firefox crashes, there are times when, on restart, there is no "restore session" option. It is greyed out in all places, and all of the previous tabs are lost. I save tabs across many months.

Previously, I have saved a recent sessionstore.js file from the profile. Then, when this occurs, I go to the profile, delete and replace the sessionstore.js file with the saved one, and have a reasonably recent recovery of the tabs.

In this version of Firefox, 36.0.1, there is no sessionstore.js file in the profile (see screenshot 1). So, where is it?

There is a new folder called session-store backups (see screenshot 2). Reasonably, I looked in there.

There is no sessionstore.js file in that folder. There are files called recovery.js and recovery.bak in that folder. Each is dated today--3/6/2015

Is the new idea that if Firefox crashes and the tabs are not recoverable, that you rename the the recovery.js file as sessionstore.js and put it in the profile?

Or is the sessionstore.js file now in a new location?

I would always like to have a recent backup of sessionstore.js, having learned from past crashes that this is a good idea!

As an extra bonus, I have also added a screenshot of the profile folder and location (screenshot 4).

Many thanks.

I have used FF for years and until the recent upgrades had no problems. Since the upgrades FF frequently doesn't respond or crashes. Pages don't load or if they do load they just hang forever. I have gone through the help info available and the suggested resolution did not work. Until the upgrades FF was to me the most stable browser option. I use this for work and don't have time for the issues I keep running into and having to use to two browsers is silly. Help is appreciated.

A couple of weeks ago, I started getting a message that my version of Gmail was not supported by IE. But I don't use IE. I talked to my tech and we made sure compatability view in IE was off, I have the latest version of IE -11. This issue appears when I log in to gmail or log off, not consistently. I can get around it by staying signed in while I'm online or signing in to google. But it is frustrating. I visited the gmail forum on this and the best answer they had was update IE to 11 (already done) and use a different browser like Firefox (Already using). So how do I get rid of this message?

When I load multiple PDFs in Firefox to check their content for errors one by one, closing one PDF tab to reveal another PDF tab very often causes plugin-container.exe to crash, which means I have to reload each remaining PDF tab to view the remaining files. This of course defeats the purpose of opening more than one at a time, and actually adds about 5 times as many clicks to the whole process because I have to clear the error and reload each page, then it might happen again or might not. It doesn't happen every time I close a PDF, but about 1 in 4 times.

I realize I have two versions of Acrobat installed (Acrobat 9.5.5 and Reader 11.0.10), and thus two Firefox plugins, but for the record this same thing happens on other computers that just have Reader or just have Acrobat, so it's not an issue of conflicting plugins. Though I did notice you aren't allowed to disable just one or the other -- deactivating one deactivates both. At first it seems not to, but if you reload the plugins page, you'll see both are actually off.

Windows coughs up the following error report when plugin-container.exe crashes, but Firefox says nothing, I guess because the plugin-container is a standalone app:

Problem signature:

Appreciate any help available in resolving this crash.

Hi, Firefox is great browser especially for those that care about freedom and privacy. I would like to know why it is not possible to specify custom search engine as you were able to do in the past version of Firefox. I would like to use google search engine together with https://search.disconnect.me/ that offers the possibility of anonymous searches. I know that exists a plug-in https://disconnect.me/search, but is not very comfortable with respect to standard search bar. Thank you

I read the proposed solution here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/use-search-bar-firefox-and-manage-search-engines#w_add-a-search-engine but in Firefox 36 does not work

I'm trying to lock the settings in about:config. I changed the settings, created the mozilla.cfg file, created the all.js file, placed the mozilla.cfg file in Firefox.app > Contents > Resources. I placed the all.js file in Firefox.app > Contents > Resources > defaults > pref. For simplicity sake the mozilla.cfg file is:

// lockPref("browser.startup.homepage", “https://www.google.com”);

I converted to cfg using the tool here: http://www.alain.knaff.lu/howto/MozillaCustomization/cgi/byteshf.cgi

The all.js file looks like this:

pref("general.config.obscure_value", 0); pref("general.config.filename","mozilla.cfg");

It was created in TextEdit in plain text.

Thanks

I typically run with cookies disabled (do not allow web sites to store cookies). I then manually allow selected sites to do so.

I recently tried to add a site to the exception list only to discover that many of my settings have been changed and all of my exceptions have been deleted.

I did not do this intentionally. The only thing I can think of is I allowed FF to upgrade to 36.0. I think this was a few weeks ago.

How can I get the cookie exception list back? There were at least 100, maybe a lot more. I have no way of knowing which ones they all were.

How can I prevent this from happening again?

THis problem just started a few days ago. This problem shows up in embedded videos that have been working for months, at least.

I use YouTube's iframe method of embedding. When I use youtube-nocookie domain which is an option that YouTube itself offers to me, when I try to play the embedded video I get the message "An error occured, please try again later. <a target="_blank" href="https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3037019?p=player_error1&rd=1">Learn More</a>".

The Learn More is a link to https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/3037019?p=player_error1&rd=1 This link is of no help.

I am using Firefox 36.0.1. There is no trouble with the same embedded video in Google Chrome. My Google search on this problem never took me to an item on the Mozilla support page, but I think I will look there next.

Here is a link to a post where I see the problem.

http://ssgreenberg.name/PoliticsBlog/2015/03/04/sen-warren-to-gop-stop-ambushing-workers-rights/

Even when I use the link with youtube-nocookie directly in the Firefox URL bar, I get a blank page. If I take out the -nocookie from the domain in the address bar, the video plays.

So a couple of days ago I started having this issue with one specific site where images are loading all the way off the screen. This is mainly in forum posts. It only happens in firefox and it only happens on this one website which by the way is a guild website I use for a game called RIFT. I don't have the same problem with in Internet Explorer or Chrome so I know the issue either lies with firefox and or the website itself. The website is www.valkyriandescent.com in case anyone would like to see if they have the same issues. I already know from asking the people I game with that it loads in fine for some of them and other have the same issue I do. I'm going to post a screenshot below to show what i'm talking about. Any help would be greatly appreciated as this is really annoying me as I use the site a lot.

FF36 works fine, FF38 fails (at least on OSX - other OSes not yet tested, we've frozen FF updates until this is resolved). Chrome and Safari work.

We have an internal CA to generate certificates, when we started updating to FF38 found that we get SEC_ERROR_BAD_DER when trying to connect to servers using these certificates. At first thought it was perhaps because we had not yet upgraded to SHA256 certificates, but I upgraded one and tested and still get the error.

From Wireshark I can see the following: 1: TLS handshake starts, the server responds 2: client asks for a change cipher spec 3: server responds with encrypted handshake message 4: browser shows SEC_ERROR_BAD_DER

This is occurring on both Apache 2.2.x and Tomcat web servers, across multiple physical servers (CentOS 6.x).

Every web based tool I can find says there is zero problems with our certificates, and all other browsers agree.

I have tried playing with the settings in about:config based on some googling (insecure_fallback_hosts, version.fallback-limit, version.min) and none made any difference.
