Firefox 87.0 (64-bit) on Ubuntu 20.10 is currently unusable as it won't open anything.

  • Firefox opens with no page loaded.
  • Clicking the single "getting started" bookmark does nothing.
  • Entering a search term in the address bar and pressing 'enter' changes the url in the address bar but nothing is loaded and the page remains blank. There is no indication that anything is loading.
  • Entering a url, such as "www.youtube.com", and pressing "enter" does nothing. There is no indication that anything is loading.
  • Opening the menu by clicking on the burger icon, then on "preferences" does nothing except make the menu disappear (same with most of the options in the menu).

In the browser console I see some errors and no request info (see screenshot).

I've tried `sudo apt purge firefox` then installing again, which didn't help. The problem started with ubuntu 20.04 (I only updated to 20.10 to see if it might resolve this problem).

I've tried the "refresh firefox" option, starting in safe mode, and clearing the startup cache, which didn't help.

Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

My Firefox installation on Ubuntu 20.04 does not load or render any page, nothing happens when I enter an address.

I have already rebooted multiple times, purged Firefox through aptitude, deleted all files related to Firefox (profiles, the complete .mozilla folder in home, everything else) and reinstalled as suggested in various support platforms. I have started Firefox in safe mode as well.

As far as I can tell the problem started after I used "another" Firefox through my universities Citrix service to be able to access their library catalogue. I had to symbolically link all of the files in the Firefox certificate folder to that of the Citrix client for that client to work, although I've since removed those links as well and it did nothing.

I am really pulling my hairs over this as Firefox is heavily integrated in my workflow and I don't want to switch to Chrome but I also don't want to completely reinstall my laptop as that would mean completely setting up my work environment again too.

Lately I've noticed that I cannot log on to the Xfinity.com website. The home page displays and the login screen allows entry of login ID, but then the screen blacks out and shows only 3 dots that move slightly to show something is happening. Eventually, the site times out and goes back to the login screen.

This happens on my laptop. It is running Firefox version 86 under Ubuntu Linux. I have tried this on another computer running Windows 10 and get the same result, unless I use Microsoft's browser. Firefox loads the Xfinity site correctly on my Android phone, version 86.1.1

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Problem: FIrefox suddenly quit working. Firefox refuses to load anything including local, external, and firefox config pages. When attempting to go to a webpage or config page by pressing the enter button nothing happens and the page is entirely blank. The developer console does not open. After about 2 minutes of not doing anything, it crashes. Issue persists past re-installs. I am unable to submit a bug report as normal(I only have pending crash reports), as when I attempted, it said "something unexpected happened" and then the bug report itself crashes.

Chrome works normally as expected.

Troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Refresh and safe mode
  • Launched in incognito
  • apt-get purge
  • Removing profile
  • removing .mozilla, .adobe, .macromedia, /etc/firefox, firefox-extensions, .cache
  • installing nightly, beta, reinstalled multiple times.

Current workaround: Using chrome

Hello,

Since a while now, Firefox is really slox on my computer. Here is what I use :

  • Ubuntu 20.04.02 (an LTS version)
  • Intel i5-8250u & 16Go of RAM
  • Firefox 84.0.2 (64 bits)

I experience, as mentioned, heavy slowness while loading and switching between pages, but also when I want to select DOM elements like links or buttons. Firefox actually freezes for sometimes, I guess depending on how long it has been opened, but I am really not sure. When switching from one page to another I even get a loading circle, even in private mode. And it does matter if I am on a "heavy/complex" page like Facebook or Youtube, or "simpler/lighter" pages like Wikipedia or some random blog.

What I tried to solve the issue :

  • used Firefox in safe mode
  • cleaned Firefox cache
  • used Firefox integrated repair mode

Yet, even though I got to admit Firefox did not have freezes after a repair operation or cache was cleaned for a few while, slowness always come back. I cannot afford to do that everyday.

Is there a durable solution to this issue ? Thanks, Lou.

Greetings, I am trying to fill out a PDF form using Firefox's built in PDF viewer and form editor. I'm running Linux (Ubuntu) with Firefox 84. I am able to successfully view and "Open" the PDF within the browser, and even edit the text properly. However, upon saving or printing, the text gets rendered with a massive font size nullifying the ability to edit in browser. I've been trying to find some online resources without success, and can't seem to find others reporting a similar case.

I've disabled all extensions and restarted Firefox, but did not notice any change in behavior. Any tips for debugging? Attached are two pics of the PDF form while editing, and then the rendered PDF after saving.

However trying to download an audio no matter what format I write in file always download only webpage as .html never as .mp3. Looking at sourcecode (image attached) I found a detail containing "chrome" in webpage. Later, I tried downloading with Chromium at it worked properly. I am using Firefox with Ubuntu 16.04. I run Ubuntu from Virtualbox in Mac host. Firefox is freezing frequently, at least once every day. System is completely frozen. The mouse pointer is moving, but no responses from mouse click. Cannot point out to any specific websites. Sometimes it just freezes while using my university email and Lms together. Really inconvenient. I really do not want to switch from firefox to chrome. So this is my last try before the switch. I tried solutions that I found online. I uninstalled and reinstalled firefox. Tried installing through Ubuntu Snap and then reinstall through command line. Tried refreshing firefox. But all ended up in the same result Any help would be appreciated

The profile folder on the new installation is to be replaced with that from the old. So far so good, I've copied the profile folder from Windows and now want to exchange it for the profile folder on the new Ubuntu computer. Problem is that this is the very latest Ubuntu version (only a few weeks old) and there IS no profiles folder in Firefox!

What there is, is a profiles.ini file but I am reluctant to put it in there because it does not appear to have anything to do with the contents of the ex-windows profile folder.

There is an option to create a new folder but I'm not at all sure what this would do.

Hope you can help

The only symptoms are <defunct> processes (see screenshot).

I need more information to find out what went wrong. Where can I find this?

Good day, there is such a question, is it planned to release (or port) a Firefox browser for Ubuntu Touch? Unfortunately, the only browser available is "Morph", and it does not meet the requirements of many UT users. I'd love to see your browser on this platform, as convenient as for android and ios. While using Ubuntu 18.04.03 LTS and FF 71 When I go to www.Pluto.tv a free TV site and leave it running for about 40 minutes or more the message " a script on this page may be busy" this always happens both on Ubuntu and another Linux system. this problem does not occur on my Mac OS. the problem when left alone the CPU goes very high on the Linux system preventing any usefull usage of FF until it is closed and reopened.

The message that pops up suggests FF is interuppting something incorrectly. Anyone with a suggestion to stop this problem? Keeping in mind FF plays with no flawas for more than 40 minutes

Hi I mean one of these (image below) ? The goal is to prevent reloading the tabs among ones that were openned in a previous session and I don't need anymore (and by the way FF won't update my history as not needed) - Even if I'd didn't use "Startup/Restore last session", this would be a great feature to be able to close with right-click any tabs whose names in shown in the drop list when so many tabs are openned that the last ones can't fit in the width of the window (actually tabs "toolbar"). Thanks you for this great browser. I asked this 2 years ago if there's a way.

Random today, firefox 69.0 (standard firefox from the Ubuntu repo) on Pop!_OS 19.04 (running KDE plasma) started randomly becoming super unresponsive. I would type and it would then proceed to freeze for a second, then choppily spit out my characters one by one. This happened even after wiping the .mozilla folder, after purging configurations, after refreshing firefox and after launching it in safe mode. Any idea as to why this is happening and how to fix it?
