I'm running Firefox 62.0 on Linux. I'm using the Light theme, but the menu bar and drop down menus have suddenly changed to dark. How do I get them back to a light background with black text? btw - when it changed, I couldn't read the menus because they were black text on black background. After trying a variety of themes, which didn't affect the menus, somehow they changed to black background with white text, so I can at least read them.

I'm getting a blank (white) screen when my Win 7 pc boots up to the desktop (see attached screen shot). It has a small FireFox logo at the upper left corner. After about a minute this window will close revealing the desktop. If you try to close it, it says it isn't responding. As a test, I uninstalled FF and then rebooted. This window didn't open up. I can't tell if it is a FF issue or if some program is trying to use FF on startup but failing. Has anyone else had this issue?

For the last few months (starting with an upgrade to new version), Firefox has asked for my master password immediately upon startup (or as soon as startup is complete), regardless of what web page I am viewing. This does not seem right; it should prompt for master password only when a site that I visit requires a site password.

Another recent post on the support forums advises going to security settings, and disabling the option for "use master password." That's not right, either.

Every now and then, I get the 'Firefox Red Screen of Caution' about the site I'm attempting to visit. It's shown as a Deceptive Site, and I'm urged to NOT visit it. One option open to me is to 'Ignore Warning' and proceed. This works most of the time, but occasionally even clicking that option does not allow me to bypass Firefox's well-intentioned blockade and have to use an alternative browser. How do I deal with this otherwise?

Problem:

Unable to disable/modify default Quick Find keybindings (the apostrophe key and the forward slash key).

Attempted (and Failed) Solutions:

(1) Not able to use Murphy's solution (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1215667), because there is no 'Options' subheading in my 3-bar drop-down menu and I am otherwise unable to find a 'Browsing' subheading.

(2) Not able to use cor-el's solution (https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/984845), because the modification suggested is no longer supported by my version of Firefox (61.0.1 (64-bit) on Linux Xenial).

(3) Not able to use suggestion at https://techdows.com/2018/06/disable-quick-find-firefox.html, because ‘accessibility.typeaheadfind.manual‘ preference is not listed. Toggling value of 'accessibility.typeaheadfind', 'accessibility.typeaheadfind.flashBar', and 'accessibility.typeaheadfind.linksonly' did not disable Quick Find after restarting Firefox.

(4) I also tried adding the preference 'searchkeys.disable.all' to 'about:config' and setting its boolean value to 'true' (I am unable to recall source of this suggestion), but it also did not work.

Your help is greatly appreciated! Thank you in advance for your time and effort!

Hi - please help! I'm running Windows 10 on a Dell Laptop. Firefox won't shut down at all and every morning it asks if I want to restore the previous session. This is causing all sorts of issues. I've followed all the advice in the troubleshooting guide (ie updating windows, stopping fast start up, and everything else in the guide - as well as deleting and reinstalling Firefox) but nothing has worked. It's driving me nuts! Any help would be appreciated.

It says in Mozilla documentation: "By default, Firefox uses Google Location Services to determine your location by sending: your computer’s IP address" https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/does-firefox-share-my-location-websites

I do not want Google to know where I am and collect a dossier on my browsing history. I'm not talking about doing this on a smartphone where location is important; this is on a PC.

I did not see it in Preferences, but can it be disabled by entering about:config and changing one of the listed preferences?

This may sound like word games, but I'm not trying to be funny, merely specific.

So I'm on a network with limited bandwidth. Therefore it's critical for me to understand what settings I can configure (if any) that will prevent the DOWNLOAD of video and/or large images from web sites.

For example, your basic site nowadays probably uses HTML5 and may use that vs. the old-style Flash plug-ins to embed video. And yep classic HTML links with references to image files for the images.

Back in the day you could configure a browser to ignore these references and then the browser would not even attempt to fetch the referenced image or video files. I've recently started using Firefox again, and I'm trying to learn how Firefox handles this in the HTML5 era (or rather what dumb users like me are supposed to do nowadays).

I'm noticing most of the help literature is regarding disabling settings of the auto-PLAY feature. However, due to my ignorance of modern Firefox, perhaps I'm reading it wrong, but most of it seems to involve disabling plug-ins that activate after the file is downloaded, not preventing the actual download. Similar to if I'm using Microsoft Word to view a DOCX file from a web site, uninstalling Word doesn't prevent the DOCX file from downloading. What I don't want to do is cheerfully disable the video playing while my browser still happily downloads the video in the background... because my main goal is not to avoid the annoyance of autoplay, but my goal is to conserve bandwidth on my connection.

FYI I'm using the latest version of Firefox Quantum on Manjaro Linux.

Thanks for advice anyone can provide in helping bring me into the "now" of modern Firefox, or who can point me to any further help articles or instructions to help educate me about this. If I'm over-reading and disabling auto-PLAY also inherently disables the downloading of the associated media, super, but that distinction is not obvious in any of the documentation I've seen so far.

Thanks!!

Until Firefox 62.0, I was able to pin separate taskbar icons for separate, simultaneously running Firefox profiles in Windows 10 by doing the following:

1) Add about:config boolean: "taskbar.grouping.useprofile" set to "true." (Described in this Mozilla bug-fix: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=577867)

2) Set target of each separate pinned icon to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -p [user-profile-name] -no-remote

However, with the latest update these settings have no longer have the intended effect, and open instances of multiple profiles are grouped into one taskbar icon.

Is there a new way to pin separate taskbar icons for separate, simultaneously running profiles in Windows 10?
