Firefox goes into non-responding mode when I'm trying to import my HTML backup file of bookmarks. Process takes 25 % of CPU, then an "unresponsive script" message pops up. Pressing Continue, Debug or Stop is useless : the same message pops up a while later. I have to forcibly close Firefox.
Script is chrome://browser/content/places/editBookmarkOverlay.js:1112.
The following measures did not work :
- Disable all extensions.
- Start in Firefox Safe Mode (a different script becomes unresponsive : chrome://browser/content/browser.js:6888).
- Disable Adobe Flash protected mode in Shockwave Flash.
I successfully tried to import this very file in Firefox before reinstalling my PC from scratch (I believe it was in a previous Firefox version). It has been exported from Opera and has around 10 000 bookmarks. I can open it with Firefox and view it in a tab. It's only import into bookmarks that fails.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Hi I saw the article about getting firefox to use less resource but I have no extensions or addons and removed flash entirely really bare bones vanilla firefox version 43 - its killing me. Using up to 90% CPU and hits over 411K memory - nothing else really running closed everything I could in task manager except what won't close or needed to keep things running and a few web pages open - locks me up. Thanks

I have an embedded mp4 video background on my site. It functions properly in every browser other than Firefox.
It's not content on a page, so I can't put multiple versions in and have the browser pick.
I also can not use YouTube video as a background video -- nor am I willing to use Flash [since this requires plug-ins to work, and most people are afraid of having Flash on their systems].
Is there any solution, or will this just not work for anyone using Firefox?
Thanks.

For this web site: http://ulsterhabitat.org/ in the post Ulster Habitat News (facebook) (third image, first small one), the link to the facebook page will only open if: I right click on it and choose "open in new tab" (It does not matter if I give focus to the new tab or not), then I left click on the link and it works. If I left click on the link first, nothing happens. (link says "Ulster Habitat Facebook").
What I have done: run in safe mode, refreshed Firefox, reinstalled Firefox 43.0.3 (with all profile data removed - as clean as could be) with no extensions, altered settings or add-ons. Behavior is always the same.
System is Windows 7 Pro, latest up-to-date version, but Firefox also does this on a W7 Home system, and a W10 Home system, both with latest Firefox. No Firefox extensions or add-ons on the W10 machine.
Bonus: Chrome 47.0.2526.106 does not do this (it opens the link immediately). IE 11.0.26 does just what Firefox does. It would seem to me that the link should either work or not work, but not depend on opening in a new tab first. Fascinated by this. Thank you. Tim

I've been troubleshooting for issues of Firefox hanging. It is primarily with one location, full of media content: http://www.theguardian.com/au
First, I closed some windows with many tabs, which didn't help. I followed instructions for increasing speed by changing settings for pipelining, which did not seem to help. I started to, but did not, change places settings. Also looked at suggestions re shockwave, but do not think I followed any.
Then I downloaded YesScript. This has solved the loading/hanging problem. But it has also made viewing comments in their normal presentation impossible. Even when I turn YS off, the comments do not load in a useful way.
Since it now appears that my primary problem is due to javascript, is there any other way I can rectify the problem? Thanks.

Every once in a while an add from Facebook will open up with a fake "You computer is infected call #" page. This hasn't been a problem in the past because I use ad-blocker, flash blocker, and no script. But these pages that I have seen lately ask for authentication ex. "A username and password are being requested by http://errorx3458i.ml.".
How can I disable Firefox from making a popup asking for authentication?
These popups stop the page from being closed because they pop back up. They also prevent going to another tab. I can open up a new Firefox instance and use that. The only way to close this is be very very quick and hit the X on the page just after the one on the popup or use task manager and force close Firefox.

I have a few addons that you have allowed me to install, now you will not allow them to work. This is my browser, on my computer, I am aware that the internet is full of risks. By all means warn me that YOU consider something a risk. but please allow me to take the risk if I wish. I started with Internet Explorer, because it was on my first PC, but I did not like it & quickly installed Netscape, which was fasyer. Then I found Firefox which Was really good. But now it seems as if you have added all sorts of junk into it as it is really slow to open, slow to display webpages, and now you are disabling all the addons.

I use FF 43.0.2 I have been having problems with sites which I believe were safe, but which were blocked by FF because of certificate issues (generally slated "unknown"). These were sites that I connected to on a regular basis before. Finally being fed-up not being able to access these sites (no info available with this type of problem and iframe giving no clue) I followed a FF guideline and deleted the cert8.db The result has been the impossibility to connect to any HTTPS site. I finally found the temporary solution to disable BitDeFender's scan SSL option. But this made me uneasy. So I checked on the certificates themselves and saw they had (almost) all expired. What does this mean? Is there a way to ensure the proper updates are done, as seems to be possible using the check box "Query OCSP responder servers to confirm the current validity of certificates"? And how do I come back to a regular surveillance of the SSL traffic, or is it purely for show and ineffective? How can I trust a system telling me its own foundations are flaky? Thanks a million for all you guys do and a million and one for this particular issue if you have an answer. ;-)

I have downloaded and installed the latest Adobe Flash player from Adobe and it still does not load. Another site I am having this problem with is AARP. I contacted them and they stated that the problem was with Firefox and how it is handling the Flash Player. If I use IE things work fine, however, I don't like IE and would prefer Firefox.

I have been using Firefox for years and have had no issue. Tonight, when I try to go to my normal websites (AOL mail, Etsy, etc.) I receive an error message of:
This Connection is Untrusted
You have asked Firefox to connect securely to my.screenname.aol.com, but we can't confirm that your connection is secure.
Normally, when you try to connect securely, sites will present trusted identification to prove that you are going to the right place. However, this site's identity can't be verified.
What Should I Do?
If you usually connect to this site without problems, this error could mean that someone is trying to impersonate the site, and you shouldn't continue.
my.screenname.aol.com uses an invalid security certificate.
The certificate is not trusted because it was signed using a signature algorithm that was disabled because that algorithm is not secure.
(Error code: sec_error_cert_signature_algorithm_disabled)
I have tried updating Firefox, I have run a security check, I have search the forums...I have not found a solution for this error code.
What am I able to do?

for the last 3 days Firefox crashes after 3 - 20 minutes - no real consistent time or status as far as what I am doing. so far I have done the following with no success: 1. refreshed Firefox; 2. restarted Firefox in safe mode; 3. restarted Firefox with all add-ins / plug-ins disabled; 4. uninstalled Firefox and reloaded it from Mozilla site; 5. after reloading Firefox I again tried the refresh and safe mode restarts and still had crashes.
I am running Firefox on a HP destop with Windows 10. Hibernation and sleep are disabled and the power setting does not have the hard drive shutting down. Crashes happened while on websites as well has just working with Firefox settings. But did have several websites in my homepages - Google mail & calendar, Facebook, Linked-in, and Google - but also had the problem with just the default homepage from the reset option open. The upgrade to Windows 10 was done several months ago and Firefox operated fine until 3 days ago (generally used daily for several hours). Microsoft Edge does not have this crashing problem - but I still prefer Firefox and want to fix it. Any suggestions about what to try next??? I would appreciate any suggestions.
