Hello, everyone!

I've filed a bug report here: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1004476 The problem is that after installing Firefox 29 with no profile at all and installing any addon that requires a browser restart (NoScript for e.g.) Firefox restarts OK, but after closing it and trying to open again I get a message: "Firefox is already running". I can see in the Task Manager that there is already Firefox running in the background. I've found several people complaining about this issue. Engineers are working on issues that have been identified.
The known issues are problems with Firefox hanging on closedown resulting in Firefox not restarting unless the hung process is killed.

Workaround ensure Firefox is NOT set to clear History on Close down
Use NewButton → Preferences → |Privacy| Firefox will: [Remember History v ]

A fix is now on the Beta Channel Fx30b8 hopefully in a couple of weeks that will be on everyone's Release of Firefox30.

Immediately after installing Firefox 24.0, the entire look of my Yahoo Mail page changed, and all the usual icons for reply, attach, forward etc. disappeared and were replaced by small boxes with letters in them. I don't have this problem in Safari.

I set the browser to open at Google and at first, I had no problem, but now Firefox is blocking me accessing the site, saying it is unsafe and will cause harm to my computer. I have used this site for years and had no problem, so why is this happening, please. Chris Keys

Web sites like murraystivoli.com that display the facebook and twitter icons and especially the new Yahoo Mail interface fail to display the icons. I see only a little rectangle. On Yahoo Mail there is a little number inside but instead of this it should be displaying arrows,, or pictures of envelopes or icons that mean "send". The new interface is unusable without proper icon translation - can't see the arrows for "reply" "reply all". It works on Internet explorer on Vista; it works on Firefox on Windows XP (that is way back level) so why do we see this problem with up to date Vista and Firefox (we're at 24.0 but I've seen problems on web sites that I don't care about that much on other levels of Firefox also.)

My question is similar to "Java Plug-in for JRE7u21?" but all the suggestions there that worked are for Windows, and I'm on a Mac, and I don't want to hijack that thread. _{For the record, that thread is /questions/958847. aw}

I have Mac OS X 10.8.5 Mountain Lion, Firefox 24.0, which says it's up to date, and Java 7 update 45, also up to date. I only want answers for Mac OS X, not Windows, not Linux.

The online Java test works OK in Safari but not in Firefox. Firefox thinks Java is not installed. There's no "Java Applet Plug-in" in the plug-ins list.

Since Safari is OK, I assume there's a bug in Firefox. Can we narrow it down by identifying which combinations of versions (of Mac OS X, Firefox and Java) have the Java plug-in and which don't?

I updated to Firefox 24.0 today (on a Windows 7 64-bit system) and since then I have had program crashes about every 2 to 15 minutes apart. Disabling hardware acceleration did not work. Firefox did not crash when I tried it in safe mode, but since I'm not sure what's triggering the crashes, I am still not sure if this is an extension problem. I have two crash reports: bp-40c597f4-aec4-47a0-92dd-14f382130918 and bp-abbbabef-0535-405b-8b30-0a5642130918. Can someone look at these and post a reply?

On 27/9/13 my firefox browser became slow in many ways. when i scroll down on facebook and when i scroll down on youtube it lags i don't have any addons installed or anything does anyone know how to solve this problem i have tried:

Reinstalling firefox I have reset firefox to default state. Going on tools then options then going on advanced and disabled hardware acceleration and none of these work when i use google chrome it was all fine and had no problems but i'm mainly a firefox user

This morning on Care2.com I was able to spell check a group post by right clicking in the text. After Firefox updated to 24.0 that option is no longer available. Where is it hiding?

For the past several weeks I'm becoming increasingly aware of severe memory issues when using FF (currently FF30 32bit). No matter what I do, FF seems to keep allocating more memory to the point where it starts having severe issues and slowdowns, eventually crashing when the used memory reaches about 2.4GB, according to Windows Task manager (I'm running Win7 64 on 8GB of RAM). Currently, the whole process got so bad that it only takes several hours for FF to crash. I don't even have to use FF for this to happen - if I simply leave it running for two hours, when I come back, it's process is already using a few hundred MB of memory more.

I've tried disabling all of the add-ons. I've tried disabling all of the plugins, including Flash (which is always udated to latest version). I've tried the safe mode. I've even tried a clean profile. Nothing really changes much - some of my add-ons might have some influence on how fast FF eats the RAM and they certainly have visible impact on how much memory is used from the start, but even without any add-ons, the memory footprint of FF still gets bigger and bigger over time just by regular browsing.

I've also tried both installing FF28 with clean profile into clean directory - again, the same behaviour was observed, although it used less memory by default and its memory footprint was getting bigger slower than with FF30. I've also tried current nightlies (FF33a1), both 32bit and 64bit, again with a clean profile, installed into a separate new folder. Again, didn't really solve anything.

I also have a second separate Windows 8 install on my PC, so I've tried FF30 in this install as well, however, it behaves exactly the same. FF does this even under my Linux installation, so I really doubt it has something to do with my Win install.

Note that I've also tried running current Pale Moon, and while its allocated memory grows much slower than with FF, it still grows over time unexplicably, and as Pale Moon is based on FF code, I'd say this suggests there's some kind of issue there.

Also note that I usually have quite a few tabs open (around 50 is my average - and no, I don't want to use less tabs, before someone suggests that, I think any browser on current hardware should be able to handle 50 tabs without much issues, and pretty much any other browser is), but the same behaviour was observed even with under 10 tabs. I also always disable the delayed tab loading, meaning that all of my tabs load at browser startup, not just after I click on them, so my starting memory footprint with all of my tabs and add-ons is around 1.4GB (1.1 in Pale Moon), which probably means I'm seeing this issue manifest faster than many other would. I'm fine with the memory it eats at startup and with the slower startup. I would even be fine with my browser taking up 2 gigs of RAM (I've got 8GB of RAM for a reason), as long as it doesn't keep on allocating more and more memory without it ever going back down, even when I close several tabs.

Finally, it might be interesting to note that the memory measurements at about:memory grow much slower than the allocated memory reported by Task manager - meaning that quite often, FF memory measurement says it's using 1395MB RAM, while in Windows Taks manager, the Firefox32 process is reported as already taking up e.g. 1.8-2.0GB of RAM, and around 1500MB RAM in FF can equal to 2.2-2.4GB in Task Manager (meaning it's pretty close to FF crashing). And the "Free memory" buttons in about:memory seem to have no effect on the allocated memory, reported in Task manager (even though they do have some minor effect on used memory reported by FF itself there).

I don't really expect much help, I think I've already tried pretty much everything there was to try and for the time being it seems to me using Pale Moon is my only option right now, as in it the memory issues are at least somehow manageable and not as annoying as in classic FF, but I still thought I might post this here, if perhaps only for someone to take notice.

I've been having a problem with HTML5 video playing in firefox when hosted on GoDaddy. I'm almost positive that this is a server side issue but GoDaddy doesn't have the technical support to give me any more solutions than what they have repeatedly suggested. Here is the link to the index page I am having problems with:

GoDaddy has suggested creating an htaccess file that contains the following code:

AddType video/mp4 .mp4 .m4v
AddType video/ogg .ogv
AddType video/webm .webm

I have uploaded the htaccess file with this code and nothing happened. I've placed the file in the root and in the folder that contains the videos. Still nothing. I have had this problem with another client who hosts on GoDaddy as well. Is there a solution to this problem?

Tried to update flash via FF. It took me to abobe's page where nothing happens when I click install. Everything on the page is an advertisement for adobe cloud. :-( So I uninstalled flash, adobe acrobat and shockwave (all needed updates according to FF). I still couldn't download flash using FF (it's NOT on the FF plugin list!!!), so I tried IE & it downloaded all three easily & effortlessly. Of the three FF now recognizes acrobat & shockwave but refuses to acknowledge that I have flash on my computer (Win 7 - everything is updated & I use MSSE). I even reverted (using system restore) back to an earlier version of FF and that didn't help. And every time I closed out FF in 25 it would crash!

So I uninstalled FF completely and downloaded v 25 with the same results!

Left page up & got an automated popup asking if I wanted to download flash. I tried it and it said it failed & asked if I wanted to try manually. That just takes me back to the adobe page w/the cloud crap & the install link is useless.

Anyone have any suggestions?

When started the new tab is blank and doesn't show the 9 previous pages like before. I have gone to help the troubleshooting and then reset Firefox. This works until I shut down Firefox although when I start a new session the New Tabs are Blank again. please help.

Hello, Sometime ago I suddenly realized that JavaScript was not working in my Firefox. I get a very explicit error message from Stack Overflow:

"Stack Overflow requires external JavaScript from another domain, which is blocked or failed to load."

Many other websites also do not work.

I currently am running Windows 7 and on typing "java -version", I get the following output:

java version "1.7.0_40" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_40-b43) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 24.0-b56, mixed mode)

I know Java is installed and working because I can compile and run .java files from NetBeans.

I am in a fix as I have spent many hours troubleshooting this problem but could not solve it. I am very hopeful for a solution here.

I have a curious problem where the back-button stops working - and other threads regarding this issue has proven unsuccessful in my case, like changing the browser.backspace_action value, resetting Firefox and disable hardware acceleration.

Alright, try this link: http://htmlticker.nmd.dk/udenadform/index.php?page=1 When clicking the number buttons, the page changes - and when clicking the back-button, it returns to the previous pages. So far, so good.

Now, try this: http://htmlticker.nmd.dk/medadform/index.php?page=1 Try clicking some numbers, for instance 1 to 5 and click back. Nothing happens, right? The page reloads, but the browser doesn't return to the previous page.

The difference between the two pages are that the upper link's sourcecode points directly to the ticker HTML, while the lower link's sourcecode points through Adform advertisement engine - but still, it should rewind as usual.

Any bright ideas are much appreciated - at least a reason, so I can inform our customer.

I have a FF sync account. I purchased a tablet. I want to sync the tablet. During the process I am asked to provide a recovery key which I do not have.

Every solution I find on the Internet is either two years old or the steps (Tools/Options/Synch/Manage Account) are no longer valid as Manage Account is not under Sync any longer.

I either need to find my recovery key, delete the account so I can get a new key, or stop wasting my time and take this process to a different browser.

Can anyone help without pointing to the same web pages I've been to countless times?

in the last month yahoo changed their home webpage and ever since then firefox has behaved strangely. It no longer recognizes the login page as secure with a green label and no longer automatically supplies usernames and passwords from the password vault. Nor does it ask if I want to save a username and password. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks george

I upgraded to Firefox 24.0 a few days ago. (At the same time, I also upgraded to the latest java.) I have a Dell laptop running Windows XP.

After I upgraded, Disqus comment boxes (and some others) no longer appear in my browser. And I don't mean fail to load, that's an old Disqus problem (occasionally). They flat out do not appear.

As a result, I've gone back to using Chrome, which shows them just fine. I like Firefox better than Chrome, but if I can't see comments on my usual sites, it's dead to me.

I updated my VLC plugin to 2.1.3, the most up-to-date version of both the plugin and the software. Yet, Firefox says it's "vulnerable" for absolutely no reason. I also shut down and restarted firefox after the update, and it didn't make a whiff of difference.

Also, Adobe Reader 9.5.5 is the most up to date version of Reader 9, and is perfectly fine according to my add-on manager, but yet that's also "vulnerable" according to the plugin update checkfor absolutely NO reason. When I upgraded to Adobe Reader X a long time ago it didn't work at all with firefox as the plugin had severe issues and wasn't user friendly even outside of firefox. I therefore reinstalled 9 and never went back.

Why is it that Firefox cannot recognize updated plugins and says they're vulnerable, and yet gives zero reason why?

Lastly, if I go into the add-on manager and click on the "update now" link in that page it only brings me to the worthless page telling me the plugin was blocked, not about where to go to update it. This is a really irritating problem as you go to try to update it and you're not going to a website that will allow you to do it, it just brings you to a page that says absolutely NOTHING of value.

After Firefox auto updated to version 24.0, it has been consistently crashing. I tried unchecking "Use hardware acceleration when available" and making javascript.options.baselinejit.content, javascript.options.baselinejit.chrome, and javascript.options.ion.content false but that did not solve my problem. I don't want to have to switch to a different browser but I can't get anything done with how often Firefox is crashing.
