Despite having two different antivirus programs on my PC, which suprisingly do work together, this one seems to have slipped through the net.... I had this problem once before whereby I was surfing the net and suddenly Firefox dissappeared, on restarting it I was prompted to install "Better Surf", which I ignored. Now history has repeated itself, firefox crashed and on restart I've been asked to install "Better Surf Plus 1.1"... from C:/program files/ BetterSurfPlus - with the text at the top: "Another program on your computer would like to modify Firefox with the following add-on"

I have ignored this prompt, and yet going to the tools>addons menu, it is listed there but disabled and no option to remove it. One of my antivirus programs detected the master DLL file and has quarantined it... but it did this with Better Surf version 1, yet somehow I've 'been updated' to a newer version.

Whilst I'm not sure if this currently poses a problem since it's in quarantine, my main query is simply:

- Where Has This Come From?

My antivirus programs disable auto-downloads, and scan everything that is downloaded - which leaves me to think that a firefox addon currently active is downloading malware through a back door. Anybody got any ideas? thanks.

I made a screenshot of the whole things, but it doesnt seem like I can include it to this post.

After I stop clicking/scrolling on any website windows I opened, their background color turn to black instead of transparent so to browse again I need to refresh them every time. ( I still can see/read through but it is "veiled"). Or right click and go to "inspect element" then to "inspector" to change background color from black to transparent. Well, you know it is CSS. I have tried all the things like disabling ad-on and extensions even cleaned the comp with new Kaspersky 2014 and also used Registry Fix Files software. Nothing. Please help me to find the solution. Is it something to do with Java Script? Thank you. This problem does occur on my off-line, internal files etc

When I got to youtube, or other sites with videos or items that use shockwave, I get a popup that says shockwave isn't working - do I want to retry or stop it. No matter which option I try, firefox remains frozen and I have to restart it. I DO have the latest version of FIREFOX AND SHOCkWAVE. I HAVE ALREADY reset Firefox and that doesn't work either. Why hasn't this been addressed? I see many, many other people have this same problem and it's been going on for months and months and months! PLEASE fix this issue.

I have tried disabling the add-on = no help I have tried removing the add-on = no help I even searched the add/remove a program in the control panel = no help

It just keeps on reappearing! This is very annoying and is only occurring in Firefox. I am using Windows 7 64-bit

Is it hidden in my registry somewhere? I also try to permanently remove the Yahoo toolbar using the same steps above, but that mysteriously reappears as well!

I prefer Firefox over the other browser out there, but I am very close to ending this relationship if this cannot be resolved.

What is the trick???

I also have been experiencing the same problem as the OP. Google services including Google Search, GMail, and YouTube are all intermittently inaccessible through the most recent version of firefox on my MacBook Pro running OS X 10.6.8. Additionally, sites that use Google APIs also hang (sometimes) when they try to load.

This is frustrating to me because I depend on these services for much of what I do on the web. It is especially frustrating because Firefox has been a dependable and useful browser for me for years. I have had to start using chrome as a workaround but would really prefer to stick with Firefox.

I have identified this problem as specific to firefox, as I have no issues with the Google services in Chrome or Safari. I am also always able to get normal pings to https://www.google.com and https://www.gmail.com through Network Utility on my Mac.

I have tried all of the above solutions including - clearing the cache and cookies (like a zillion times by now) - disabling and deleting all add-ons - starting firefox in safe mode - deleting firefox and reinstalling from a freshly downloaded dmg - manually deleting the user profile for firefox from Library - Changing the manual proxy setting to NO PROXY in firefox preferences - removing all trusted add-ons from firefox preferences - Pushing RESET in the about:config dialog - Resetting my modem/router

I tried to adjust the keyword setting in about:config but when i searched for it it was not present. I wonder if this is part of the problem.

Additionally I have removed the Auto-update files that google software like google earth use to call home to check for updates.

None of these have resolved the issue. I still can only sometimes access Google services using firefox. If I am logged in to GMail using Firefox, i will at some point lose connection and be unable to reestablish the connection for an indeterminate period of time.

This problem has been going on longer than a week or two, maybe a month. I don't know what to do to resolve the issue.

I believe there must be something broken in the way Firefox handles requests for google sites that I have not yet been able to reset or change.

Please, if anyone has found an actual, permanent solution, respond to this thread.

Thanks!

(this seems to be similar to the problem described in another Mozilla support thread: https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/963648 )

it still does it in safe mode, i've reset firefox, did both virus & malware scans (even being in Linux), the flash players up to date & is the only plugin installed.

$ uname -vr 3.11.0-14-generic #21-Ubuntu SMP Tue Nov 12 17:07:40 UTC 2013

It's completely random, never the same webpage. Feel like a JS script get unresponsive, then maybe a minute after everything is frozen, all windows close and Xubuntu give me a crash report window. ( That I submit every time )

I have both windows that are "normal", and some that are "private", maybe 5-10 tabs in each.

Never had this problem before.

I am trying to ftp sites in Firefox 25.0.1 But getting error :

Unable to connect

Firefox can't establish a connection to the server at ftp.mozilla.org.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I have tried many times, even ftp.mozilla.org is not opening. Same error is there every time. Please help me.

I have always had it set to delete my cookies and other information when I close Firefox, and it is still set to that. It has always cleared my information, and if I closed the browser windows I would have to retype in any usernames and passwords on sites - which is how I liked it. Now when I close my browser windows, and come back to open a new window, if I go to my email or to facebook or the like I am still logged in to the sites. Why? If I have to log off of each site on my own and clear my cookies on my own before I leave my computer, I will - but I wonder what changed?
