Using YouTube for example...

Previously, when I bookmarked a page/video (URL), if the newly bookmarked page (URL) had previously been visited, the bookmark would be displayed in the Sidebar (or Toolbar) with a typical "YouTube Play Button" icon (favicon). But, if the newly bookmarked page (URL) has never been visited, then the bookmark would be displayed in the Sidebar (or Toolbar) with a default "Globe" icon (favicon).

I almost always create bookmarks by dragging links/URLs from the browser client area to a folder in the bookmarks list in the sidebar (and sometimes/rarely, to a folder on the Bookmarks Toolbar). But the same happens if I manually create a new bookmark to a "Visited" or "Un-visited" page.

Recently, this behavior just changed "without notice"...

Now, when I drag a link/URL from a the "Recommended videos column" on the right side of a YouTube page/video, to the bookmarks list in the sidebar, the bookmark is ALWAYS displayed in the Sidebar (or Toolbar) with a typical "YouTube Play Button" icon (favicon), regardless of whether the page had previously been visited, or not. Also, existing bookmarks for un-visited pages that were previously created, and were previously displayed in the Sidebar (or Toolbar) with a default "Globe" icon (favicon), are now displayed in the Sidebar (or Toolbar) with a typical "YouTube Play Button" icon (favicon).

How can I bring back the previous behavior of displaying bookmarks of un-visited pages/URLs in the Sidebar (or Toolbar) with a default "Globe" icon (favicon)?

Two computers. Both computers name version of Firefox and same version Of Windows 10. On computer 1 drag and drop no longer works. I can click star next url and manually to bookmark toolbar. I also cannot reorder on tool bar by dragging and dropping by selecting.

How do I know I'm doing it correctly? On computer 2 it works exactly as should. Click on padlock and drop or click on entry and toolbar and reorder. Same extensions etc and do not have a bookmark extension though have tab session manager. Same version both computers. Only difference in browser is number of tabs open. x 10 difference in number of tabs open computer 1 versus 2.

If I put firefox in troubleshoot mode with extensions etc off or create a brand new profile and try same problem.

I have changed the password for my account and logged in. Tried to logout and login again but just 9 passwords is found, extremely frustrating!

Anyone got a clue what has happened?

Hi - I just reset my PC and trying to restore Firefox. I saved the default release folder (qejikze4.default-release-1669319412153) which contains the latest bookmarks in the "bookmarkbackups" folder. I tried to just replace the bookmark file in the new install (how I previously transfered them), but I can't find the files in the latest V.120 version. Any suggestions on how I can do it?

Thanks

Hi. I'm trying to transfer Firefox bookmarks from a hard drive pulled from a now dead iMac (was IOS 10.13.4 + Firefox 116.6.0) to a MacBookPro laptop running BigSur (11.6.8) and Firefox 122.0.1. I have the iMac HDD plugged into a hot swap docking station. A search for places.sqlite on the old HD turns up nothing.

I have found answers for drilling down into Windows to find the appropriate files to transfer, but not for Mac. I didn't know Firefox Sync existed until now, and I don't know where to look for a profile on the hard drive. Suggestions?

Edit:

Ok, this is going to be a bigger problem that I thought. The laptop is my wife's old university-owned mac, and there's a whole "admin" layer of hidden and mixed-up folders. I need to go see the admins for help.

Thanks a lot anyway, though. I did learn a lot in the process :)

I had to re-install Windows 11 after the last major Windows update. I cannot find a copy of my bookmarksmenu or bookmark bar (I am translating from Dutch) in Windows.old. I did have Firefox synchronized with my Android phone, so all of those bookmarks are still in Firefox Android (on my phone). I would like to get them all back, but the phone clearly says that the synchronisation feature is NOT for backing up or restoring this kind of stuff. On the phone the Settings and clicking on my email address says, that the last synchronisation took place 1 minute ago, but indeed, the bookmarks are not back on my computer's Firefox. I hate to initiate a synchronisation from my computer (don't even know how) and then have the synchronisation overwrite the favorites and bookmarks on my phone. None of the help files or articles give any indiction whether you can dictate the direction of the synchronisation or whether that is even a thing. So basically, I seem to have no backup of my favorites or bookmark, other than what's in Firefox for Android. How can I restore them from there. I read I can import them in the desktop version, but I don't find any info on how to export them from Android. Help!

When I select "bookmark this tab", in the Firefox browser, I used to get the window allowing you to choose where to put the new bookmark. This 'bookmark location' window no longer appears so you don't know where the bookmark has gone. Prior to now, this feature has always worked fine.

I quit Firebox and reopened it but the problem remains.

I'm using Firefox 119.0.1 (64 bit) (the most current vers.) on a Macbook Pro running Ventura 13.3. I switched from Chrome to Firefox on this new Mac.

Please help!

Thanks very much.

When a new bookmark is created it goes to the end of the bookmark listing in the left panel. How can I force Firefox to automatically put each newly created bookmark in the correct alphabetic position in the left panel Bookmarks panel? I DO NOT want to alphabetize the entire panel, I just want each newly created bookmark to go where is alphabetically belongs. I do not use folders so have one long list for bookmarks menu. thank Bob

Prior to updating to Windows 11 I was able to specify the bookmark folder that I wanted to save the bookmark in when I pressed "Bookmark Current Tab" or "Ctrl-D". Now it automatically saves the bookmark in the "Other Bookmarks" folder instead of allowing me to save it in my desired folder? I then have to find the saved bookmark and manually move it to the desired folder. Is there a fix for this or is this a permanent feature change? Thanks for your help.
