How can I delete bookmarks on my toolbar when the 'bluestar' isn't illuminated? (Same for the 'delete' button in the library menu).
Dear Sir/Madam I have had a look at your solutions page and have tried to use all the advice suggested however, when I try to delete three items on by Toolbar, none of them illuminate the 'BlueStar' which is beside their address. (I have successfully got rid of other items). I have also tried to delete the items in Firefox's library menu, however, the delete button their isn't illuminated either. I am now concerned that the items are spyware. I was thinking of reinstalling the software but, this would mean loosing all my Bookmarks.
For your information, I have just updated Firefox to 28.0.
I would appreciate your help with this matter.
Kind regards Suzanne

Good to hear! I think you should be able to use the trackpad though. I think I remember doing this on a friends' Mac (the first one I've listed below, from that web page) - Use two fingers, and tap the trackpad. I think you might have to watch that you don't tap it too lightly, or it doesn't know what you're trying to do.
On that second one that says to use the CTRL key, from my memory, the Mac doesn't have that (maybe it does now) . . . I think I had to use a different key that was in the bottom left . . . from Google Images, I see that there are four: fn, control, option, command . . . if the control key doesn't work, my next guess would be to use the option or command key. That's an easy experiment to see which one.
If you hold down the control key, though, and then regular-click the bookmark you want to delete, doesn't that bring up the right-click menu? . . . this is as opposed to simply giving the bookmark the two fingered tap.

Use the two-fingered tap on the trackpad, not a click, just a light tap with two fingers.

If you have a one button mouse, hold down the CTRL key, then click the mouse button.
If you have a magic mouse, depress the mouse on the right side.

Alternatively, go into System Preferences -> Trackpad -> Point & Click, and select your preferred option for 'Secondary Click'.

Right-click on the bookmark / Delete
Dear Sludge7051-x
Thank you for your prompt reply to my question, I appreciate it.
I haven't got a mouse with which to right click, I use an Apple MacBook Pro touchpad mostly.
Any more ideas to how I can delete them without reinstalling Firefox? Regards
Problems with bookmarks and history not working properly can be caused by a corrupted places.sqlite database file.
You can check for problems with the places.sqlite database file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can right-click. My experience with Mac is that they try to make it so easy . . . so un-complicated, un-cluttered, and streamlined . . . that there are no helps, no visual cues, and consequently, it's not obvious how to do things . . . That makes it important to go through video tutorials for things like the mouse, or to read up on it (does this fix it?)
How right click on macbookpro? https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4306897
Dear sludge7051-x Thank you so much for all your help.
I did as you said (after trying to find a very old mouse in my computer box in the attic!), and managed to delete the offending tags.
Really appreciate your prompt response to my problem.
Have a lovely weekend.
Kind regards

I asked a friend of mine about this who has Mac. I think this is what he said:
"The second click (right-click?) is not turned on by default. You have to go into Preferences and set it how you want."
