I use Firefox version 28.0. In prior versions, when I wanted to stop a download, I could click on the download time remaining icon to the right of the navigation bar and it would show past and current downloads. I could click on any current download to stop it. 28.0 does not allow that. When I click on the download icon, nothing happens. How do I stop downloads in version 28.0?

Right click on the file and click on pause

What Diego and Matt said.

Does anyone know a way to bring back the "pause button" instead of using that newly "streamlined" right click workaround all the time?...

The Download Status Bar add-on looks like it has the option and about a million others, but I know nothing about it really. have a look yourself https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/download-status-bar/?src=userprofile and search for other download tools on the site, there are a lot.

@Matt

I do appreciate your help and please understand I'm not angry at you (quite the contrary),however:

1) the more add-ons are used, the more problems you'll get. Not all add-ons play nice with each other or if they depend on others (classic theme restorer now possibly being necessary for many others?!). Add-ons are often made by spare time programmers, who may abandon it any time. Add-ons can be additional security risks.

One example from my experience, thanks to the new FF code: I installed "Download helper" and "Flash Video Downloader". The downloads through native FF rightclick and the Download Helper appear in the new download tab. The ones from "Flash Video Downloader" don't appear at all, even though they're downloading.

Using PaleMoon (yes, I switched after that Australis abomination) I found out: They are visible in the OLD STYLE DOWNLOAD WINDOW - thank you MOONCHILD !

However PaleMoon has the new download window as well, and now we have TWO download managers with TWO different sets of downloads appearing in them!!

Thank you FF DEVS for FUCKING UP with this POS UI (HARD)coding ! I have to find a way to route all downloads through the old style download...all just because I want a self evident functionality, A FUCKING PAUSE BUTTON !!

2) What actually infuriates me (and many others on this and other matters) is that THIS WAS A FEATURE, now not only disabled(fine,do if you want to) but ON PURPOSE (probably out of pure spite) coded so that the USER can't re-enable it. (I have yet to see a non add-on solution to bring back that pause button!)

THAT is the "CUSTOMIZABILITY" those self righteous wannabe gods boasted about in their press releases ?! Taking away former functionality, ease of use and customizations...

My DESKTOP has enough real estate for a tiny fucking 10x10 pause button icon, don't force me to use a fugly, castrated mobile UI on it !

3) You supporters are FF users as well I assume. I won't believe for a second that you're all OK with the removal of functionality and ease of use, not to mention customization options !

While it is good for all of us to know of add-ons: Instead of (just) telling us to patch up what has been broken we need to repair it !

Complain about it ! Tell us to complain! Tell mozilla yourself about your and our complaints and together we could make them rethink what they are doing.

...unless all this is deliberate so that sooner or later everybody is using chrome and FF withers aways like Netscape before...

What infuriates me is your apparent desire to use such language in what is supposed to be a family oriented site. I am not going to boot you for it, but I am supposed to.

But you see my personal view on Australis is exactly the reverse of yours. Anything to get rid of that stupid orange button designed by Fisher Price. I updates to a daily build the day it became available. But I had had 12 months with Australis on Thunderbird and learned to like it there, and appreciate the subtle improvements the extra year provided in Firefox.

The fact you have an add-on using the wrong download manager interface is simply a problem for that developer to update their add-on. Have you contacted them? My experience is the usually have an updated version that has not made it to addons.mozilla.org yet.

As to your final exhortation to tell Mozilla, I have nothing to tell them. I am happy with Australis, I do not miss a pause button that I never ever used. But as you have used a Mozilla forum to vent, I suppose you can consider them told.

To answer the original posted question. See the image with the X for stop. (And the tool tip saying cancel). Before closing this thread and removing it from public view (thanks digital blade for your language that makes that necessary. I do not care what you say, I do care how you say it)

I do not use 28, this is taken from a daily build of 34 so if it differs, you have something to look forward to in a future release.
