I have been at a site for a few years and this morning. Suddenly, when I tried to get on, I got the message about Adobe Flash. I went through the instructions 3 times. The program states it has installed. I checked all forum articles and removed existing AF. I tried again, with same result. Even the shockwave flash in plugs is gone and does not show up when searched for. This has happened in the distant past.

I finally got it to work by downloading from Adobe the uninstaller for Shockwave/Flash and uninstalling it. When I opened the browser again, I once again installed Shockwave - and this time it worked! However now I'm once again having problems editing Calendar entries. Arrrrggghhh! Ah well, I'll just have to edit the calendar on my tablet until someone figures out how to make these guys play nice together.

Please note that if the site has ads, the warning may be an advertisement. We suggest using out plug-in checker and scanning your computer.

Please check if all your plugins are up-to-date. To do this, go to the Mozilla Plugin Check site.

Once you're there, the site will check if all your plugins have the latest versions. If you see plugins in the list that have a yellow Update button or a red Update now button, please update these immediately.

To do so, please click each red or yellow button. Then you should see a site that allows you to download the latest version. Double-click the downloaded file to start the installation and follow the steps mentioned in the installation procedure.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!

Can you attach a screenshot?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Your system details list shows the Flash Player plugin so Flash should work.

  1. Shockwave Flash 11.7 r700

You can check the version of the current Flash player here:

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window or otherwise make changes.

Sorry to bother you. I found the same spot in Chrome (which normally has its own flash and even IE. I ran some spyware programs and antivirus and anti-rootkit. It still shows up as an Adobe Flash item which states that things will run better with flash. (Same exact spot in site). It ran fine this morning. P.S. Microsoft Essentials is a very poor antivirus. As a free program, I's recommend the new AVG or AVAST.

Thanks

Is this happening only on specific web pages or also on the Adobe test page?

Can you post a link to a publicly accessible page that doesn't require authentication (signing on) if it only happens on some pages?

Screenshot attached anyway

That looks like an effort to get you installed other software, so don't respond to this.

Is this only happening on specific web pages?

If this is the case then this server might be infected or tries to seduce you to install this program.
If this isn't the case and it happens on other web pages as well then you are infected with malware.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

As I said, I have done many scans but it still remains at that point. I will try tomorrow to see if it occurs at any other point, so far no. This is the standard screen when Adobe updates. What concerns me is that it shows up on Chrome, which has its own flash. I'll know more when I go throue the site again.

Your assessment was correct. The problem was at the source. I suspected something when it occured on Chrome. I know Adobe has many problems. It was a genuine website but Abobe has a problem where its update don't work correctly. The website corrected the problem but created another.

Adobe has had the basic problem before, but as stated this was implemented incorrectly.

Thanx again

I have this problem and it isn't a matter of malware or ads. I can't listen to NPR! It keeps telling me I need Adobe Flash, I have installed it multiple times -k downloaded, executed, Adobe says it installed - but nothing! NPR still gives the same message. Plugins/addons still don't list adobe flash.

I deleted the pluginreg.dat file, reopened and looked at the plugins. I now have shockwave flash. But when I try NPR again, it gives the same old message.

It isn't just NPR. The Adobe home site shows that I don't have the plugins needed to show the site. Other sites have shown the same.

I have Firefox 23.0.1 on Windows 7, HP Touchsmart 300 computer.

Hi lindsaysf, when you review the plugin on the Add-ons page, does it have "Always Activate" selected? Do you know whether any of your extensions could be blocking Flash? It might be easier to start a new thread and use the forum's add-on to copy out your setup details.

Hi Funkyecat, if you don't want further email notifications from this thread, use the sidebar to the right of the question: Question Tools > Stop Email Updates.

Hi lindsaysf

Is Flash detected on the Adobe test pages?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
