How can I make it so that my cursor is already in the search bar when I open a new tab?

My computer just updated Firefox, and one thing I really dislike is when I open a new tab, my cursor isn't ready to search like it used to. I used to open a new tab, and be able to start typing in the website right away, but now I can't. Help?

Hello hannah_weaver, i don't known how you can do that, but you can hit the Tab key to move the cursor from the address/location bar to the Search bar without touch the mouse !

thank you

I think if you have that tab assigned to the page thumbnails or a blank page, the cursor stays in the address bar, but if you have another page in it, then that might alter the behavior. Does the page move the focus into its own search box, like the Google home page?

The add-on mentioned in this thread might help: How to select all text in the Location Bar when opening a new tab.

Are we getting closer?
