Lock Bookmarks and History to protect while sharing computer?

Is there a way to lock my bookmarks and history while sharing my computer, in order to prevent the user from accessing the sites that are saved?

I'm not so much concerned about someone seeing what the sites are as much as I am about them being able to access those sites. (I.e., sites with log in creds saved).

I'm running Firefox 17.0.1.

Many thanks.

Ken

Hi,

The ideal way would be to use separate Windows user accounts, preferably Standard accounts, as Firefox automatically integrates with the Windows user accounts feature and creates separate Firefox user profiles. As long as the user accounts are protected against each other with proper Windows OS permissions, any Firefox profile associated with a user account would be totally isolated and unreadable from another.

If you would like to protect only the saved login details in the current Windows account, you can set a master password. Please note that this only applies to the Firefox built-in Password Manager and would not be useful in case you are using an add-on to store credentials. Also, this still leaves the bookmarks, history, form fill etc. accessible.

You can also create multiple Firefox user profiles under a single Windows user account though in this case also, it would be possible to log in to the saved sites of another profile unless protected by a master password.

Thanks for the response. I think the master password serves my purpose. I really just want to guard against someone sitting down at my computer and being able to log on to any of my random online accounts where I've stored my username and password.

Many thanks.

You're welcome :)

Also on sites for which you have the saved passwords or log in, you have to log out completely, and ideally also make sure that the log in status is not saved in a cookie. Usually sites that save the log in status asks your permission beforehand via a check box when filling in the username/password. When in doubt you can always Clear Now the Cookies with Time range to clear set to Everything via Tools (Alt + T) > Clear Recent History in addition to signing out. It would also be a good idea to include the Cache in Clear Recent History.
