I just wanted to add, it's hard to tell what are links and what are adds. This should be against the law or something. I'm tired of these irreparable companies getting in my way and taking over my computer.

The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your essential information. Note: This will cause you to lose any Extensions, Open websites, and some Preferences.

To Reset Firefox do the following:

1. Go to Firefox > Help > Troubleshooting Information.
2. Click the "Reset Firefox" button.
3. Firefox will close and reset. After Firefox is done, it will show a window with the information that is imported. Click Finish.
4. Firefox will open with all factory defaults applied.

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

You can also so a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

i'm using Firefox 17. in Vista. i have disabled a Firefox add-on called OneClickDownloader which seems to have solved the problem. it is something i had forgotten that i had, although the problem only started recently (2 weeks ago maybe). hope that helps...

Tried Spybot SD, Super AntiSpyware and Malware Bytes and they helped to some degree but the main problem persisted. Tried running Firefox in safe mode and problem vanished. Rebooted Firefox and using Add-On manager, disabled all Plug-ins. Turned each plugin back on, one at a time and found that ShockwaveFlash bought back the problem. Then with Shockwave running I went to "Extensions" and turned off "HD TV Live".

Bingo problem solved!

Hope this can help others before you dump all your add-ons and have to start over.

I had the same problem. Tried using several antivirus tools but not all of them could locate any thread. Spyhunter helped to get rid of CouponDropDown ads. Found a tip and a tool here http://www.2-viruses.com/remove-coupondropdown-virus.

I also installed SpyHunter. Detected all kinds of threats but at the point of fixing the problem you need to register /purchase the software... I just deactivated shockwave flash plugin and so far the pop-ups disappeared. thx

I had the same problem. I went to Firefox add-ons and simply unistalled anything I didn't understand or think i wanted. The problem immediately disappeared. It was easy and quick.

By the way, Malwarebytes full scan was no use at all. It doesn't appear to detect these little buggers.

I disabled Shockwave Flash and my problem went away. I has previously used multiple anti-virus and malware detectors with no problem. The people that perpetrate these intrusions should be found and beaten for doing these things.
