Starting about 24 hours ago, "Save Page As..." and "Save Image As" do nothing.
Firefox is ignoring "Save Page As..." and "Save Image As..."

Create a New Profile as a test to check if your current profile is causing the problems.
- Basic Troubleshooting - Make a New Profile
- Now start Firefox using this newly created profile.
IF that New Profile works then you can recover your History, Bookmarks and Passwords from the Old Profile.
Check and tell if its working.

Start Firefox in Diagnose Firefox issues using Troubleshoot Mode to check if one of the extensions or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
- Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.

Before I try that, I'd like some assurance that getting Firefox out of Safe Mode is easier than getting Windows out of Safe Mode.
Firefox only starts in Safe mode if you select that or hold down the Shift key while starting.
So you only need to close Firefox and restart Firefox to open Firefox in normal mode.
It is the same as in Windows where you have to close and reboot as well, but only quicker because you do not need to reboot the computer, only close and restart Firefox.
OK. Thanx. I'll try Firefox safe mode. I've been exclusively a Linux user for about a decade. Windows must have upped their game. I always found Windows 98 out of "safe mode" to be definitely a frustrating trial-and-error exercise.
Same problem here - d/a all extensions, restarted in safe mode & deleted downloads.sqlite, still cannot save any images. Also, uninstalled & re-installed FF 12.0, plus removed the Ubuntu extras.

Tried that - still no change. Firefox doesn't bring up the Downloads window (which I've selected it to do & not to do - no change), but it will allow me to choose where I would like to save the pics - it just will not save them.
Did you perform all scenarios listed in the following article:
It is possible that your anti-virus software is corrupting the downloaded files or otherwise interfering with downloading files by Firefox.
Try to Disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes downloading work.
Disable Virus Scanning in Firefox preferences - Windows
Check and tell if its working.
I'm not running Windows, running Ubuntu - no antivirus software running. I've tested both Chromium & Midori (installed both just now to test) & neither one has this same issue.

Yay - I'm now a statistic. Seems the old profile was corrupted.
Glad to see its working now :D
