Firefox running EXTREMELY slowly after updating to 3.6.18; can I go back to (very fast!) 3.6.17 ??

The newest Firefox won't work (I have to upgrade to Snow Leopard first; I'm on a Mac running Tiger 10.4.11 right now), so I've been plugging away fine on firefox 3.6.17 .... until yesterday it automatically updated (NOOOO) to 3.6.18 and now my baby is basically crippled - pages load suuuuuuper sloooooowly if at all (many just keep loading with a blank screen indefinitely) and my download speed has gone down to 20 KB/sec, less than half of what it was two days ago. UGH UGH UGH !! How can I fix this? Can I go back to 3.6.17? I've already tried opening in safe mode, disabling add-ons, etc etc etc. The website will only let me uninstall and install 3.6.18 and not any before that. HALP.

I have to agree, a once rapid firefox is now an absolute pain, I have scanned the computer with Malware bites and AVG nothing found..anybody got the fix?
