Support page says to just restart Firefox, which I've been doing via Force Quit since there's no other way. But this is happening every 1-2 hours, which is just unacceptable for prolonged work. It doesn't matter what site I'm on or what I'm doing when it happens. First multi-touch scrolling stops working, then I realize I can't click on anything, then I realize I can't change tabs. What causes this and is there a way to fix it? I love FF 4 otherwise so I don't want to go back.

EDIT: I submitted this right after FF had frozen and I restarted. Fifteen minutes later, it did it again.

Mine crashes regularly - any time I'm searching for a file to upload to Facebook or anything else. I get messages: "Firefox has stopped working A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available. " Unfortunately I've never been notified by "Windows" (which I assume is Microsoft) of a solution and even the Indian guides from Dell/Mumbai can't figure it out. If anyone's found the secret, let me know.

I'm on a Macbook Pro with OSX and I never get a crash/error report option. I just have to Force Quit and restart.

Mine freezes as soon as I open it! It says "Oops" and maybe it was due to a page was open. It says to restart or start over. Sometimes I have enough time to click on one, but then it freezes and I can't remove any of the bars. Verizon had me download it a week or so ago and it worked fine! I've even tried uninstalling and re-installing. I'm getting so frustrated with this!!

I'm on a Macbook Pro with OSX and my Firefox is constantly freezing up and becoming unresponsive. The worst of it is, when I force quit and reopen, it automatically opens up all the tabs that had been open and crashes itself again. The third time I open it, it comes up with the "Restore Session" options, and then things are good for a bit. It also has a tendency to hang when I exit out of the application, and many of my friends have reported the same.

I am running Windows 7 ultimate, and have the same problems the Mac users are having. No error report, no oops message, no anything. It can happen as soon as I open it or after I have been using it for a while, no warning of course, it just happens. I have to open the task manager and force close and when I reopen the window, MOST of the time it will reopen the tabs I had open before it froze, sometimes it does not. Not a fan of the new platform for this reason alone. I don't really care how it looks, I just want it to work properly most of the time. I have an associates in computer science, I understand there are going to be issues and the time it takes to fix them, but seeing that there are others out there with the same problems on the support site, I would think Mozilla would be pressing to get this issue resolved as fast as they can so people won't "jump ship" to other browsers. I will be using Chrome until I get an email saying this is resolved. Then I will update Firefox. But as soon as it happens again, just bet that I will be back on Chrome just as quickly.

I called my internet provider and let them look inside my pc. They found things I should delete and I haven't had a problem since!! It's worth a shot!! It could be an anti virus or another program that's causing the problems.

I have the same problem as well. but since I desactivate the "Fox Clocks" add-on it resolves the problem.

i was also experiencing the same problem........ all of u guys having the problem might be using the avast! new web rep add on...... yes thats the culprit and it causes firefox to hang unexpectedly anytime.........

i tried disabling it and since then my firefox is rocking(working fine) check the linked pic....

if u r not using avast web rep and still ur firefox has the above problem... then try disabling ur add ons one by one to check which one is causing the problem...

I found out I had two antivirus programs, so deleted AVG. Mozilla worked great after that, only now I noticed it's slow starting up.

I have used Firefox since it first came out, and always loved it. Firefox 4.0.1 is a different story. This must be one of the worst software upgrades across the board, of any software package I have ever used. I have stuck with it for a few weeks, and I have now finally given up.

Constant crashes, constant freezes, many plugins no longer work, my favorite among them, i.e PDF plugin to see PDF files inside the browser. AppTabs disappear over and over.

I have downgraded back to 3.6.17 and hope things will be better again.

I have been having so many freeze ups since installing firefox 4.0.1 that I finally decided to uninstall and reinstall it today and now it does not work at all. I have no choice but to swithc to internet explorer after loving firefox for year. There is no help or tech support for this issue, either.

Thanks to everyone who offered advice... unfortunately (for Firefox anyway), I've found the best fix for this problem is to switch to Chrome. I've been using FF for many years, so I thought it there would be an adjustment period, but I've been surprised how much of an improvement it is. MUCH faster, no crashes, very sleek and easy to use, and they have all the add-ons I needed (Adblock, mail notifier, etc). Highly recommend this solution to the people having problems.

Like several others here I am at my wits end and although I have been a - i have reinstalled firecoxFirefox user almost since the first version I am now having to consider moving back to ie or somewhere. Firefox hangs forty or fifty times a day - sometimes when i try to load a flash video - if it does load the video then it always hangs afterwards - sometimes it seems to hang for no reason - i have this problem on more than one machine - i have reinstalled flash several times (sometimes it won't let me - just refuses to download anything - sometimes it downloads stuff but won't install it - if it does install it it makes no difference) - i have reinstalled firefox twice - no difference - all virus and malware checked on a daily basis

I've been having this problem for many months now Just upgraded to 5.0 and still have the problem I was following instructions from another thread which said to put it in safe mode - it froze up again! I've had to use Chrome just to get my work done (which is super fast) I guess I'll just keep wasting time searching for a solution - if it was any other browser I wouldn't do it.

Same problem here. Never before but since Firefox 4 and 5 a big problem. I find a lot of similar complaints here, when are they gone fix it?

With so many people complaining, I'm not sure why this is not priority #1 for the Firefox team. I switched to Chrome a couple of weeks back after the constant freezes made it impossible to continue using FF productively. Please don't let this be Mozilla's version of Vista... I would love to go back to FF once this is fixed.

So, Firefox 4.0 just quit again. I'm so sick of FF. I used to be a loyal fan and I suggested it to many people, however, not anymore. Now I have to use Safari. I'm not a fan of it, but at least it's stable.

I've gotten so used to FF crashing that now I can start to predict its next freeze. When I'm on FB or other sites where I post responses, the typing slows to a crawl and then stops. I know immediately FF has frozen again.

Can't the creators fix this problem? Or, do you simply like making people miserable. How can I get my old FF restored? I HATE FIREFOX 4.0!

Since 3 weeks ago, firefox in my mac freezes every 10 minutes, and everytime I want to see my history it freezes. So I couldnt keep with this stupid problem and found the solution. Now I simply use safari browser and NEVER in my life will use firefox again. What an epic fail.
