Wow... Surfing the web with Firefox 1.0 is like... going on the highway on a bicycle... or using Internet Explorer 6!! Don't! Just don't! Update to Firefox 3.6 as soon as possible, and avoid browsing the web with outdated browsers at all costs. The version of Firefox you are using at the moment has been discontinued and is no longer supported. On top of this, it has known unpatched bugs and security problems. I urge you to update to the latest version of Firefox, for maximum security, stability, performance and usability. You can get it for free, as always, at getfirefox.com.

Firefox 1.0 was released November 9, 2004...

Firefox 1.0.x versions didn't have the ability to "upgrade" to the next or subsequent major versions, the user had to download the new version and install it manually. I don't know what you mean by "disk chamber", but you need to download Firefox to some sort of storage device, whether it is your hard drive or a USB device plugged into your PC, and then install it.

...am unable to download the upgrade to my hard drive. It keeps giving me only the "Save to Disk" option. I don't have a disk chamber.

Save to Disk means to save to any location, including your hard drive.

Upgrading from Firefox 1 tells you to simply install Firefox by downloading it from the mozilla.com website. If you are having problems downloading the Firefox setup file using Firefox 1.0.7 you can try another browser, such as Internet Explorer, which lets your run the installer directly.
