Why is Firefox 3.6.3 the most unstable browser available?

Firefox 3.6.3 freezes, hangs, crashes, won't terminate, won't delete the stupid parental file when it crashes, I have to use Task Manager to manually close FF before re-attempting. I had less problems with a dial-up connection at 28.8 baud than this! It's practically unusable, and it this continues, myself and perhaps hundreds of thousands of Mozilla enthusiasts will cease to be so, abandoning Mozilla's products. After all, the recent changes to Thunderbird are the worst changes EVER made, virtually wiping out entire e-mail accounts and all of the e-mails contained in them with the stupid IMAP problems and not clearing mail servers. Let me know when Mozilla is dead, it's heading there very quickly. Actually, don't bother, I probably won't care anymore by then.

Here's a starting clue, Firefox's own website incorrectly identifies my installed (and barely operational) Firefox version 3.6.3 as version 3.5.2 (which is obviously incorrect).

Try making sure that Mozilla's website application correctly identifies my Firefox v 3.6.3, instead of 3.5.2.

Someone forgot to upgrade the ID bits.

D'oh!

That can happen if you have an extension that changed the user agent or made the change yourself in the past.

Check the general.useragent prefs on the about:config page. You can open the about:config page via the location bar, just like you open a website. Filter: general.useragent If any general.useragent prefs are bold (user set) then right-click that pref and choose Reset.

Additionally, you'll find the add-on that added "FBSMTWB" to your user-agent might be connected to your instability issues.

None of this addresses the awful performance issues related to the memory resources used by Firefox, even after disabling everything. I feel this is related to poorly executed code in this release and nothing short of a major overhaul of the memory management functions will remedy this.

Typical consumption of 1-3 Gb of memory?!? Come on!

Right now, I seem to have found an excellent solution. It's called Google Chrome!

Visiting the same pages (which used to work well in Firefox, now they hog Gb's of memory and crash) uses a fraction of the resources that the Firefox 3.6.3 claims (and won't give back!).

I have firefox 3.6.10 and I dont intend to make any updates due to instability of navigation.

When I make a search using Google site about 40% of the pages make Firefox crash and overturn.

To minimize the crash I disable all plug-ins, but it not works always.

Currently I use Firefox only for a few known sites, like webmail and forum dicussion groups, mainly due to facility of iMacros automation.

For research I used only Google Chrome that never does crash.

I also replaced the abandoned Compooser by the free KompoZer (with the same user interface) to maintain and update my sites.

My condolences to the Mozilla family ...
