We need more information to make and educated guess...

  • - What Thunderbird version are you using?
  • - What is your computer operating system and version?
  • - Who is your email provider?
  • - Is this an IMAP or POP3 account?
  • - What error messages are you seeing? Please quote them completely and verbatim.
