For quite some time I have been tolerating Firefox when it takes 10 seconds to load. Opera loads immediately. I am close to jumping ship.

Hi Bob Supina, the comparison must be made at the level of the purpose of both browsers. Opera was developed to be a minimalist design focused on speed and efficiency.
