Downloads:
I have discovered that some of my downloads change format upon being saved. The new format is a single line text (including pics) and is hard to read or make sense out of. How to prevent this from happening and also how to change current downloaded files back into a readable, usable format? Must all these be deleted?

If this is public download it does help to know what the URL is so others can see what format it is but if secure site then this makes it harder to know since that is private data and shouldn't be posted here.
Hi two things:
(1) As you may know, Windows hides common file extensions to make the File Explorer less cluttered, but this deprives you of important information about how programs see files. The following article describes how to force Windows to show you all those file extensions (it's for Windows 10, but I assume Windows 11 is very similar):
That should help detect a problem with Firefox adding irrelevant file extensions to your file names (like adding .txt to an image).
(2) Can you give a detailed example of what is going wrong? For example:
You right-click > Save Image As... on a picture in a page. When you go to open the file:
(a) Windows Photo Editor or Paint 3D or some other image program says either it isn't recognized as an image file or it is corrupted
(b) It opens in some other inappropriate program that isn't meant to read image files
(c) Something else
If the problem doesn't occur in that Save Image As scenario, could you describe the kinds of files that are giving you problems?
