What do you mean by "reset the account". And what do you mean old copy on server?

Mozilla doesn't keep older copies of data stored on the Sync server and even if they would then it wouldn't help if you do not remember the password. Resetting the password for the Firefox Account because you do not remember the password will remove all data stored on the Sync server. This happens because this password is used to encrypt your data before it is uploaded to the Sync server and only this original password or a possible recovery key can decrypt this data.

@Dropa, please only answer a question if you understand what the question is about and can provide a helpful answer to avoid confusion.

Nine years of my bookmarks, passwords got wliped out with a simple click mistake that doesn't even caution about an irricoverable action. Super annoyed with my own action. Glad that Firefox provided this service for free. It also reminds to never trust free solutions for such an important data. I had faith in Firefox engineering which got shattered today. History is the main reason for me to stick to Firefox. I got no reason to continue to use Firefox now.

I know my old Firefox password now.

Most of the good internet companies maintain point in time snapshots of the databases for fault tolerance. Does Firefox maintain snapshots. If so, is it possible to recover data from the most recent snapshot?

Security and data safety is important for Mozilla, so your data never leaves the computer without being encrypted by a key (password) that only you know. This comes with the responsibility to remember this password and possibly save the 32 character recovery key.

Keep in mind that Sync isn't designed to be used as a backup, but merely is meant to sync data between connected devices. Best is always to backup your personal data locally.

I have the old password and possibly recovery key. Can you provide me the encrypted data and algo used to encrypt. I'll decrypt it myself.

I have the recovery code and old password now. Please provide my own encrypted data. It's a legitimate request and you must provide my own encrypted data.

Follow the steps to recover your account. You'll be asked some questions to confirm it's your account. Answer as best you can. If you're having trouble, try the tips to complete account recovery steps.

If your account is recovered, create a password that you haven't already used with this account. Learn how to create a strong password.
