I did a full reinstall of my Firefox browser because of a problem where it couldn't load some youtube diy videos (that did load in another browser). Before the reinstall I made bookmark and saved logins backups. No problems with backup/restore of bookmarks.

Exporting saved logins works perfectly and I get a readable csv file , but importing simply doesn't work. First of all the import feature was disabled by default (?). After making the change in the settings and restarting Firefox I see the 'import from file' option in the password manager.Big dissapointment however when you click the 'import from file' option and select the exported csv file because nothing happens ! No error, no result, nothing ! I tried several csv files from earlier backups but none work. Google on the other hand can import all of my csv's without any problem ! Any help on that would be greatly appreciated.

Import from file... is currently broken. A bug report has been filed. As an alternative, Import from another browser...

You can possibly install Firefox 102 ESR to import the CSV file and generate the logins.json and key4.db files and copy these logins.json and key4.db files to your current release profile.

You can use the button on the "Help -> More Troubleshooting Information" (about:support) page to go to the current Firefox profile folder or use the about:profiles page (Root directory).

A possible solution is mentioned in a Reddit thread (remove the blank space in the link below).

Guys, has this been resolved yet.

My client needs to import their logins for the sites that require Firefox as the browser when we issue new devices to staff. The terms of the sites they use strictly prohibits using third party accounts to sync credentials. A look at a few other Gov/Legal websites, they state the same.

Is there a workaround

Yes, I believe Firefox 108 fixed the broken import feature. The signon.management.page.fileImport.enabled preference still needs to be toggled to true in about:config to enable the "Import from a file..." menu item.

Are they trying to import a CSV file they created using Firefox's export feature, or are they trying to import from somewhere else? Please create a new thread if it's not one of Firefox's files.

You can set signon.debug = true on the about:config page. You can start the import and check the Browser Console for login related messages. You can clear the messages beforehand and only enable Errors and Warnings, hidden items may have an item count appended. Do not forget to reset signon.debug to false after you are done testing.
