Why did FireFox install SoGou without my knowledge?
I am very careful about what gets installed. How did SoGou get installed without my knowledge? I would never have allowed it. I am concerned about FireFox allowing other software to sneak in.

Firefox doesn't install something that the user didn't install aka Addon. If your using Firefox with the admin account you gave permission for malware or other software to AutoInstall regardless. Sounds more like whatever site or email or popups you click caused this situation to happen. You need to go online and search for that software or file name to figure out what that is or to remove it.
I have removed the offending files from my system. Fortunately cygwin is more functional that Explorer when it comes to deleting files. At no point was there a problem. There was no permission given or popup. We are very diligent on this.
It’s very sad, but many software downloaders/ installers will trick you into installing not only their program, but other programs as well.
You have heard of the fine print in shady contracts, right? Well, some installers you need to look at the itsy bitsy teeny weeny fine print.
You are thinking you are giving the installer permission to install the program you want by using the recommended option. But if you use the Manual Option Instead, you discover all kinds of stuff that you do not even know what it is or what it does.
From now on, everyone needs to Use The Manual Option to put a stop to this.
Note that these programs can also change browser/computer settings.
