Weekly, and sometimes multiple times a week, I boot my laptop up and i get a message that says I am running an older version of firefox and need to create a new profile or exit. Nothing has changed since the day before, why does this keep happening?

This is a known issue with Firefox 67. That version of Firefox creates a new profile instead of using your old profile.

  1. Go to about:profiles.
  2. Choose Set as default profile under default. Try the other profiles if this does not fix the problem.

If you cannot even start Firefox because of the warning:

  1. Search for "Firefox" in your start menu. Right click the Firefox app in the search results and choose Open file location.
  2. Go to the Properties of the shortcut called Firefox and edit the "Target" value: Add a -p after the end quotes. OK to save the shortcut.
  3. Launch the shortcut, choose default, and check the box for Use the selected option without asking at startup.
  4. Remove the -p after these steps (assuming the problem is fixed).
