Hi, this is driving me up the wall and I'm about to change over to chrome if it can't be fixed. For over a week now, firefox has been erroring on a heap of websites (I got 3 page and loading errors just trying to log into this site, so it's not an unsecure webpage problem.) If you refresh the page 1-3 times it'll usually go through. Once it's gone through, it'll usually allow you to use that site for at least a while before starting to error again.

I've disabled all addons except my adblocker, norton safe search and privacy badger add ons (all of which I've had for ages with no problems). Computer has been scanned as virus free. No problems with other browsers. Any ideas please?

Typical example message when trying to open a page.

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to diaryofanottb.com. PR_END_OF_FILE_ERROR

Ok I'm pretty sure I've worked out where the problem was now. Thank you to everyone who pointed me in the directions of things that could have gone wrong. On a hunch about the security software suggestion I completely uninstalled a program called Kamo. CCleaner had installed a demo of it recently and I'd previously disabled it as a possible cause but it hadn't fixed firefox's problem so I figured it wasn't to blame. Now that it's off my computer entirely though, for the last few hours I've had no further errors happening so hopefully it's fixed. Just letting everyone know the problem program in case anyone else has the same issue as me. If you have Kamo, disabling it doesn't appear to be enough, uninstall it.

This is another error that frequently comes up. These are not real problems with the websites as if you refresh the page it'll work.

Secure Connection Failed

An error occurred during a connection to dressagetoday.com. SSL received a malformed Alert record.

Error code: SSL_ERROR_RX_MALFORMED_ALERT

The page you are trying to view cannot be shown because the authenticity of the received data could not be verified.

I just tried turning off the proxy in firefox settings and still getting errors.

I also disabled all the addons. No difference.

Has had Hitman pro, avast and CCleaner run through with no malware.

Does this even when a VPN is not in use.

(When editing this answer, firefox decided to display a site error and delete it so had to re-enter the answer. This problem renders firefox unsuable.)

radi.stoyanov said Turns out the option DNS over HTTPS is what caused the problem.

jamesafuf123 said https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1264659#answer-1237475 my ISP was blocking sites like that

cor-el said This usually means that Firefox wasn't able to find a cipher suites to use to connect to this server and reached the end of the list. There can be two possibilities: one is that the server is outdated and doesn't support modern cipher suites, another might be that the server only supports a few cipher suites and Firefox doesn't support any of these.

You can check your browser and possibly compare this with the server setup. https://www.ssllabs.com/ssltest/viewMyClient.html

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1024043 I used the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware, and it worked perfectly, it solved my problem

If you use a proxy or VPN or a normal connection then the connection details might change and data stored in the cache may no longer be valid and you may have to reload and bypass the cache.

You can reload webpage(s) and bypass the cache to refresh possibly outdated or corrupted files.

  • hold down the Shift key and left-click the Reload button
  • press "Ctrl + F5" or press "Ctrl + Shift + R" (Windows,Linux)
  • press "Command + Shift + R" (Mac)
