I AM using VPN and I found Firefox is leaking DNS, as it doesn't happen in another browser. I read it is caused by automatic updates: https://www.reddit.com/r/privacy/comments/2e20ni/firefox_dns_leak/ I tried to disable automatic updates by flipping this value: "app.update.auto" in about:config to false. But it did not help.

Can you please help me to fix this, I don't know what it's causing it...

That Reddit thread is from seven years ago. Did you verify that you still see this ?

You appear to be using Firefox from the Ubuntu repositories, so updating is controlled by Ubuntu software management.

First thank you for the answer!

Yeah, I AM seeing this for awhile! I was unable to solve this with my VPN provider.

I have no idea why this is happening, I didn't even know that browser can override systems dns.

Correct I AM on Ubuntu, what Firefox concerns: I AM on latest 91.0.2 and I tried reinstalling Firefox, also happens even with no addons!

i understand your problem please follow the below step abd link for fix your problem

  • Open Preferences in Firefox.
  • At the bottom under General, locate Network Settings.
  • Press Settings under Network Settings (located next to Configure how Firefox connects to the internet)
  • Uncheck Enable DNS over HTTPS.

The easiest/best way to fix DNS leaks is to choose a VPN provider that has built-in DNS leak protection. These providers use their own custom (and private) DNS servers, and use special technology to ensure that your DNS requests are always routed securely, inside the encrypted VPN tunne.
