Trojan spyware alert

My MacBook Air is alerting a Trojan spyware alert with an error code in my Firefox browser. I ran malwarebytes and it did not detect any issues. I also opened safari and that ran without an error message so apple tech said to contact Firefox for support. Should I just delete and re-install Firefox or is this a more compromising issue?

If this started popping up in Firefox after visiting a particular website, it could be a scam. Don't call any numbers or visit any links in those alerts without independently verifying that they are trusted companies.

I should mention that if you are force-quitting Firefox to get rid of this message, Firefox is likely to perform a crash recovery at the next startup and bring it back. The following thread describes some methods to bypass the problem. They were written for Windows, so some of the details (like how to rename files or edit plain text documents) will be different on Mac.
