When I open a link in a New Tab, Firefox continually returns a blank page

When I open a link in a New Tab, Firefox continually returns a blank page. (Previously, Firefox would happily open up to 10 or more Tabs for reading later, without batting an eyelid)

Firefox even declined to open my Home Page a short while ago.

The only extension I am using is Adblock Plus, and even disabling it, or restarting in Safe Mode, makes no difference.

I am using Firefox release 83.0 - and I've tried turning off Hardware Acceleration - again, no difference.

Any help/advice much appreciated Robin

When the blank page opens, does the address box show the proper address?

To reload the page bypassing the cache and force a fresh retrieval; Ctrl+Shift+R (Mac=Command+Shift+R)

Try this several times.

Hi Fred Many thanks for your post.

This doesn't appear to solve the problem - the effect is the same as if I hit the refresh button, or highlight the address bar (which shows the correct address requested). The `throbber' shows briefly, then disappears leaving a blank page. It does seem that this is limited to opening new tabs from my home page, which is times.co.uk ; opening other new tabs seem not to be affected; I'm beginning to suspect that it is The Times who've done something weird on their website, and not necessarily Firefox.

My next move is maybe to try and get some response from the Times techies, but I'm not optimistic.

Thanks again. Robin

Hi Fred

Just for info, I just received this reply from The Times:

I can confirm that our team have become aware of a fault causing these errors.
